'Sometimes, the cruise lines don't want to report this information on the front end depending upon, again, what type of crime it is, which brings unfortunate attention to them, just as it would when we have airplane situations or the delays in airplanes that we're having now,' Robert McDonald, a former Secret Service special agent and criminal justice lecturer at the University of New Haven, told Fox News.

'All of that negative vibe and negative information puts a dark cloud over the industry, an industry that wants people to come to it and wants them to be comfortable spending their money.'

According to McDonald, criminal acts are more likely among large groups of people who are confined to a small space for extended periods of time.

'I think anytime we get large numbers of people together, whether it's at a Super Bowl game or at a World Series game or an NBA Finals or graduations or whatnot, whenever we get people together, whenever there's alcohol involved, whenever there are people being able to let loose a little bit from their normal personality, I think that exacerbates the ability for numbers to rise in that regard,' he said.

'The drop in shootings last month is certainly a positive and hopefully is a trend,' says Staff Sgt. David Graham of the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Firearms Investigation Section. 'The EPS has built a strategy to not only fully investigate every shooting and the individuals and groups involved but also trace the origins of the firearms in an effort to work towards prevention.' EPS Edmonton police say shootings have gone down from last month. (Supplied) Of the eight reported shootings in May, seven were believed to be targeted and five resulted in reported injuries. There was one death as a result of a shooting last month. Police also seized 56 firearms in May, contributing to a total of 312 seized so far this year. L.A. man who allegedly preyed on Saanich, B.C., girl sentenced to 40 years for child luring and pornography
Social Sharing A child luring investigation started by the Saanich Police Department in 2020 has led to a Los Angeles man being sentenced to 40 years in United States federal prison. In April of 2020, parents of a 12-year-old Saanich girl went to police after finding sexually explicit messages from an unknown individual on their daughter's phone and computer. Investigators determined the sender was somewhere in the U.S. and eventually the case was transferred to law enforcement officials with Homeland Security. In July 2022, Mark David Wallin, 44, was arrested after investigators determined he had preyed on dozens of boys and girls between the ages of nine and 16, both in the U.S. and internationally. Saanich police said Wallin groomed his victims to provide him with explicit photos and videos. Last September, Wallin pleaded guilty to production of child pornography and the enticement of a minor to engage in criminal sexual activity. Saanich police say the U.S. charges do not include Wallin's alleged interactions with the Saanich girl. Los Angeles Homeland Security Investigations acting special agent John Pasciucco praised the Saanich Police Department in a statement saying collaboration helps "accomplish our mission of safeguarding kids and bringing those who prey on them to justice." Saanich Det. Const. John Gadsby said the case is a reminder to parents to "be aware of what social media platforms [your children] are on who they are interacting with."
