EA Sports immortalizes Diogo Jota after removing Liverpool hero from EAFC 25 game
The Liverpool man was also an avid player of EAFC (formerly FIFA), and makers EA Sports have become the latest to pay their respects following the brothers' shock passing. If there is one remotely positive thing to come out of the tragedy, it is a reminder of the impact that Diogo and Andre had on so many, as has been made apparent by the mass outpouring of grief from all over the world. Part of the massive legacy that Jota leaves behind is his own eSports team, Luna Galaxy.
He personally was just as talented on the virtual pitch as the real one, winning a Premier League FIFA tournament back in 2020; he beat Trent Alexander-Arnold in the final. He was also at one point the top-ranked player in FUT Champions, a competitive game mode within Ultimate Team.

EA Sports has now marked that part of Jota's life with a touching in-game tribute. Having initially removed his Ultimate Team card from the EAFC 25 game, as is standard practice when an active player passes away, the makers of the game have since put together a poignant gesture.
Every player of FC25 Ultimate Team has been sent a special tifo pack. It contains his No. 18 jersey from his time at Wolves, his No. 19 jersey from Porto, and his No. 20 jersey from Liverpool.
Liverpool, meanwhile, has taken the decision to retire the No. 20 jersey. Jota is now listed under his own "forever" section on the club's squad list.
Players can choose to display the tifos in-game as a virtual tribute to Jota.
"To honor and celebrate the life of one of our most passionate FC players, three new Diogo Jota Tifos have been added to your UT Club," EA Sports wrote to its players. The message was headlined "one of us".
It isn't the first eSports-related tribute Jota has received. Among the moving scenes of tributes laid outside Anfield, various gaming controllers were left.
Like Liverpool, both Porto and Wolves have also marked Jota's passing in their own ways. Molineux was also flooded with tributes, with the flowers now set to be turned into colored ink to form part of a more permanent memento.
Meanwhile, Wolves also enrolled Jota into the club's Hall of Fame. Made up of historic players and teams from the club's past, he is one of fewer than 40 members, and the first addition in more than two years.
Porto will honor Jota at an upcoming friendly with Atletico Madrid. The forward actually represented both clubs, although he never played competitively for the Spanish side.
Around the world, players have also been paying personal tributes by emulating Jota's "gaming" celebration. They sit down and mime holding a controller, as Jota would do on occasion.
Darwin Nunez and Ousmane Dembele have both paid their respect in this fashion, as have others. Like the EA Sports tribute, it's a fitting touch to honor someone who was genuinely elite in two separate fields.

Breaking: Liverpool ‘Reach Agreement' Over Deal for Alexander Isak
Alexander Isak and Liverpool: Verbal Agreement Reached Amid Transfer Talks According to Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg, Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak has reached a verbal agreement in principle with Liverpool on a contract lasting until 2031. The Swedish international is now reportedly keen to complete the move this transfer window, with both clubs in contact over a potential deal. 'Isak wants to make the move to #LFC as early as this transfer window. The clubs are in contact,' Plettenberg wrote via social media. He added that Isak's salary at Anfield would be similar to that of new striker Hugo Ekitike, offering some insight into the financial framework of the proposed move. This update represents a significant shift in Liverpool's forward planning and could serve as one of the statement signings of Arne Slot's second summer at the helm. Arne Slot Targets Long-Term Solution Isak's reported contract until 2031 underlines Liverpool's intentions to secure their attacking future well into the next decade. Since Slot's appointment, following Jurgen Klopp's departure in May 2024, the club has demonstrated calculated ambition in the market. After securing the Premier League title in his debut season, Slot's strategy is now clearly focused on longevity and continuity. Bringing in a striker of Isak's calibre and versatility aligns well with the high-intensity, fluid style Slot has implemented. Isak, who scored 21 goals in the Premier League last season, would offer a sharp blend of pace, technical quality and goal-scoring threat across the frontline. Newcastle's Sesko Pursuit Could Accelerate Exit Interestingly, Plettenberg also noted that Newcastle are 'still pushing hard to sign Benjamin #Sesko', potentially as a replacement for Isak. However, Manchester United remain in the race for the RB Leipzig striker, which could complicate matters. Isak's desire to join Liverpool and the Magpies' pursuit of Sesko might expedite a conclusion to negotiations. While Newcastle are not publicly open to selling their star forward, the clear momentum behind Isak's decision and the overlapping transfer pursuits may prove decisive. The timing and tone of this agreement, particularly its length and financial scale, indicate that Liverpool are placing real faith in Isak's potential to lead the line for years to come. 'Alexander #Isak has already reached a verbal agreement in principle with Liverpool over a contract running until 2031,' Plettenberg reported. That level of commitment from both player and club speaks volumes. Our View – Anfield Index Analysis There's a genuine sense of excitement bubbling among Liverpool fans at the prospect of Alexander Isak joining the club. At just 25 years old, Isak has already proven himself in the Premier League and in European competition, and the thought of him being coached under Arne Slot is tantalising. His technical class, movement and intelligent pressing are all perfect fits for the current system. His height and balance offer something different to the current squad, and his presence in the box could finally help unlock deeper-lying defences that have troubled Liverpool in recent campaigns. For many fans, this deal would symbolise a changing of the guard – the next generation of title contenders being assembled under Slot. If the club manage to secure Isak on a long-term deal, it would be a major signal of intent to the rest of Europe. There's still work to be done, of course, and Newcastle won't let him go without resistance. But if Plettenberg's report holds true, then Liverpool may already have one foot through the door on one of the most exciting striker acquisitions in recent memory.

Wirtz opens Liverpool account in friendly win in Japan
Florian Wirtz scored his first Liverpool goal as the Premier League champions beat Yokohama F. Marinos 3-1 in a pre-season friendly in Japan on Wednesday. French forward Hugo Ekitike made his debut for Liverpool, one week after joining from Eintracht Frankfurt for a reported 69 million pounds ($92 million). Wirtz equalised after Yokohama opened the scoring early in the second half, the German slamming home a right-foot shot from inside the box in front of over 65,000 fans. "I am really happy that I could score my first goal. I hope there are more to come," said Wirtz, who joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in a blockbuster deal. Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha also scored for Liverpool, who announced the sale of Colombian forward Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich on Wednesday. Liverpool manager Arne Slot said he was happy to see his team come from behind to win but was not pleased with their missed chances. "It could be with a tough training camp and it could be with the heat circumstances," said the Dutchman. "But that's something that we definitely have to improve." Goalkeeper Alisson Becker missed the match after travelling home to Brazil "for private reasons", Liverpool said. Shortly before kickoff, an emotional tribute was given to Diogo Jota, who passed away this month in a car crash. Liverpool dominated throughout but Yokohama opened the scoring when Asahi Uenaka pounced in the 55th minute to beat Giorgi Mamardashvili. Wirtz levelled when he latched onto a Mohamed Salah pass. Nyoni volleyed home a Jeremie Frimpong cross to put Liverpool in front, before Ngumoha dribbled from the halfway line and fired in a shot from the edge of the box. hih-amk/pst
