JAPEN: '1 House 1 Jalur Gemilang' Campaign Now Includes Health Cluster
Information Department (JAPEN) director-general Julina Johan said the campaign, introduced in 2024, previously covered only five clusters. This year, the health sector has been made one of the main focuses to create a wider impact.
'The campaign launch for the health cluster was recently held at the ministry level, officiated by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, with Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital (HRC) as the starting location,' she said.
'Insya-Allah, it will continue at Gombak Orang Asli Hospital and the Kuala Lumpur Health Clinic,' she told reporters after officiating the HRC morning assembly, themed 'Kemerdekaan-Malaysia MADANI Rakyat Disantuni: Inspirasi Nyalaan Transformasi,' here today.
Julina said the effort to fly the Jalur Gemilang was not only focused on government premises, but also encouraged at business premises, private homes and within local communities.
'In Kuala Lumpur, we are working closely with Kuala Lumpur City Hall, while in Putrajaya we have the support of Putrajaya Corporation and the government quarters association to promote and mobilise the campaign at the grassroots level.
'The spirit of patriotism must always be present, so let us all Malaysians fly the Jalur Gemilang together,' she said.
At the same time, Julina reminded the public to ensure that the flags they hoist are in good condition and displayed correctly as a sign of respect for the national symbol.
'If the flag is worn out, we encourage it to be replaced with a new one before being flown. We have also published an e-book on proper flag installation, which can be accessed by the media and the public, to address issues such as flags being hung upside down.

#HEALTH: Breakfast done right
WITH over half (54.4 per cent) of Malaysians either overweight or obese according to the National Health and Morbidity Survey 2023, it's clear that we are facing a growing public health crisis driven by poor dietary and lifestyle habits. These include low fibre intake, high consumption of refined carbohydrates and excessive sodium in daily meals. These patterns have been directly linked to the rise in non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and high cholesterol which are preventable through improved nutrition and long-term lifestyle changes. For many Malaysians, breakfast, the most important meal of the day, usually consists of a high carbohydrate/calorie-laden plate, when they should be focusing on getting adequate fibre, protein, vitamins and minerals to kickstart their day. Wholegrains, for example, are a crucial source of nutrients and ideally should be part of our breakfast meal. "Eating healthy isn't just about weight; it's about building habits that support a better life including movement, mental wellbeing, and energy levels. It's time we look beyond calories and focus on nourishment, balance and behaviour," says consultant dietitian George Thye. Speaking during the launch of the Quaker Jom Quaker Fit Campaign, Thye points out that healthy eating doesn't have to be complicated or restrictive either, but about making better choices every day. The key is to look for nutrient-dense rather than calorie-rich meals, adds PepsiCo R&D nutrition principle Dr Kit Phanvijhitsiri. Research shows that oats, for example, support satiety and help regulate blood sugar, two important factors in weight management. "It offers a practical and enjoyable way to increase fibre intake and support a more balanced diet," says Dr Kit. There's often a misconception that healthy, nutritious food lacks flavour. Thye says this is not true. "As a dietitian, I always get asked how to make healthy food taste good. We want to show Malaysians that nutritious food can also be hearty, local, and full of flavour." It's all about getting creative with basic ingredients such as wholegrains to craft flavourful meals that are also healthy and nutrient-dense. "Oats are a great base to work with, especially for those trying to eat better without giving up the food they enjoy," he says. Whether you want to start your day with a savoury porridge or have a fibre-rich snack, wholegrains offer multiple options as they are versatile and can be worked into different meals. The Jom Quaker Fit Campaign 2.0 is a refreshed wellness campaign built on the theme of "Eat Better, Not Less." The initiative encourages Malaysians to adopt smarter, sustainable eating habits by making simple, realistic food swaps, starting with small daily decisions like choosing a healthier breakfast.

MADANI Adopted Village: MOH Confident Kampung Santan Selatan Will Be Model Village
KANGAR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Health (MOH) is confident that Kampung Santan Selatan will serve as a model for inclusive and thriving community development for the country, particularly Perlis, under the ministry's MADANI Adopted Village programme. MOH secretary-general Datuk Seri Suriani Ahmad said a total of RM1 million has been set aside for the programme until December this year, which will be utilised to address issues at the village, including dilapidated village clinic, slow drainage flow, waste management, and assistance for asnaf families. "All issues are being addressed through engagement with government agencies in Perlis, namely the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU), Public Works Department (JKR), Kangar Municipal Council (MPKangar), and the State Health Department (JKN)," she said during the programme's launch at the village here today. According to Suriani, Perlis JKN is in the process of repairing and upgrading the facilities at the Santan Village Clinic to provide greater comfort for patients, with completion expected by November. Meanwhile, she said Sekolah Kebangsaan Santan has been selected for the MADANI Adopted School programme, an initiative to strengthen education in rural areas across five key areas: infrastructure, academics, teacher development, financial assistance, as well as student character and skills. 'RM100,000 has been approved to implement the programme. The funds will be used to improve school facilities and support initiatives that can enhance students' academic performance and potential. We hope this school will become a centre of knowledge and a place to build character and leadership for the next generation,' she said. Suriani said efforts have begun to unlock the village's potential and bridge the gap between leaders, government agencies, and the community, as well as build a more advanced and competitive society. At the launch, 125 villagers registered under the eKasih system received MADANI Sentuhan Kasih vouchers worth RM100 each to purchase essential items. -- BERNAMA
