Warren pitches 6 2/3 innings to lead the Yankees to 6-2 win over the Twins
Warren (7-5), who allowed homers to Byron Buxton and Trevor Larnach, struck out seven and walked none before Luke Weaver and David Bednar finished off New York's 23rd win in its last 30 regular-season meetings with Minnesota.
It was the first time the Yankees won a series opener since the All-Star break.
The last Yankees pitcher to get an out in the seventh was Carlos Rodón, who pitched eight innings July 11 against the Chicago Cubs.
Cody Bellinger, Giancarlo Stanton and Ben Rice homered against Minnesota starter Zebby Matthews (3-4).
Jazz Chisholm Jr. homered in the eighth after Trent Grisham and Aaron Judge hit RBI singles in the seventh.
Warren took a shutout into the fifth until Buxton homered. He was one strike away from finishing the seventh until Larnach homered.
Bellinger ended a 12-game homerless drought in the first. Stanton and Rice homered in the third, marking the eighth time the Yankees hit back-to-back homers this year.
Matthews allowed three runs and six hits in 5 2/3 innings. The right-hander struck out nine and tied a career high by allowing three homers.

Slot says Liverpool set to sign teenage Italian defender but won't comment on Guehi
LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Liverpool manager Arne Slot confirmed on Thursday an agreement reached with Parma to sign teenage defender Giovanni Leoni. Slot, however, refused to discuss any potential deal for another center back — England international Marc Guehi — and said any comments would need to come from his club, Crystal Palace. The 18-year-old Leoni previously played for Padova and Sampdoria before impressing at Parma after joining in the offseason of 2024. He is an Italy Under-19 international. 'The clubs have agreed (on) a deal but he hasn't signed for us yet,' Slot said of Leoni, 'so the moment when he signs for us, I can go into more detail.' In one clip that quickly spread over social media, Brady said he was 'a little worried about our head coach's work ethic.' That remark referred to Rooney, who lasted just 83 days as manager before being fired as Birmingham slipped down the second-tier Championship. Rooney has responded to the seven-time Super Bowl champion in his new role as a pundit for the BBC, saying Brady's comment was 'very unfair.' 'Tom came in once, which was the day before a game, which is a little bit lighter anyway,' Rooney said in an interview with the BBC published on Thursday, 'and I don't think he really understood football that well at the time. Maybe he does now. 'But what he does understand is that he's a hard worker. We know that. So that's why I'm really disappointed with the comment, because football is not NFL.
