Lakers guard Luka Doncic's text that kickstarted offseason body transformation

The post Lakers guard Luka Doncic's text that kickstarted offseason body transformation appeared first on ClutchPoints. After Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers' first-round exit in last year's playoffs, he wasted no time getting ready for next season. Doncic has been working out over the summer, and it showed when a recent video of him went viral. Coming off a challenging season that included suffering a calf injury that forced him to miss all of January, and the shocking blockbuster trade from the Dallas Mavericks, Luka reached out to his agent about wanting to train. It's all he wanted to do after losing to the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games. Doncic sent that critical text message on May 1, one day after the Lakers' playoff exit, per Men's Health's Andrew Heffernan. 'So every summer I try my best to work on different things,' he says. 'Obviously, I'm very competitive. This summer was just a little bit different, you know. It kind of motivated me to be even better.' The Mavericks' surprising decision to trade Doncic was rumored to be motivated by his lack of conditioning, which some believed contributed to his recovery process from the calf injury. The combination of his trade to the Lakers after leading the Mavs to the NBA Finals in 2024 and then, coming up short alongside LeBron James in the opening round of last year's playoffs, has Doncic's motivation at an all-time high. Between working out and a new, strict diet, Doncic is determined to have a memorable 2025-26 campaign with the Lakers. And with signs pointing toward next season being James' last in Los Angeles, what more motivation could Luka need, heading into his first full season with the Lakers? Luka Doncic's scary Lakers offseason conditioning message Lakers guard Luka Doncic issued a message on his conditioning this summer that exemplifies just how focused the veteran is as he enters his ninth NBA season. He's on a mission to silence his haters while transforming into the best shape of his career. Doncic isn't slowing down anytime soon as he spoke on his newfound focus, per Men's Health. 'If I stop now,' Doncic said. 'It was all for nothing.' While the upcoming season is, of course, the official beginning of Doncic leading the Lakers into a new era, this could be what sets the tone as he becomes the face of the storied franchise. From Kobe Bryant to LeBron James to Doncic, the Lakers have a new future Hall of Fame talent leading the team. Ime Udoka gets real on what Kevin Durant's addition means for the Rockets

The post Ime Udoka gets real on what Kevin Durant's addition means for the Rockets appeared first on ClutchPoints. Houston Rockets head coach Ime Udoka is excited for Kevin Durant. While adding a veteran All-Star to his team could yield his first trip to the NBA Finals since his lone season with the Boston Celtics in 2022, Udoka is happy to see Durant in a winning situation with the Rockets. He's eager to get started and says Kevin is, too, as the two reunite from Ime's days as an assistant coach for the Brooklyn Nets and Team USA. For the first time in Durant's career, Udoka is his head coach, and the Rockets' head coach can't wait to see Durant lead his team by example, just as the veteran Rockets players who came before him did. 'His day-to-day routine is very similar to Fred [Van Vleet] and Dillon [Brooks], and Jeff [Green], and the vets that we brought in,' Udoka said. 'I think he takes us to another level with his work ethic. Seeing him in practice in Brooklyn and for Team USA, he would almost go through practice to get to his routine. And then, you see the work he puts in to maintain the level that he's been at. So, that definitely rubs off on guys. 'Just like all our vets did; come in and impart wisdom, and teach his experience with these guys, and it'll be invaluable for these guys to see and learn from him.' Udoka is very much looking forward to reuniting with Durant in Houston. 'We're both excited to work together again,' Udoka added. 'Obviously, he was in a tough situation, looking forward to moving on and very happy to do that with us. He shared that excitement and joy to be back with some guys he already knows back in Texas. We all know about what he brings. No secret there. But, yeah, very happy to get going, very excited about our young guys that he's ready to play with.' Kevin Durant's take on Ime Udoka before Rockets tenure The feeling is seemingly mutual. As Kevin Durant joins Ime Udoka and the Rockets, he believes Udoka's defensive approach is improving his players' offense. Durant discussed Udoka, per LeBron James and Steve Nash's Mind The Game podcast. 'I see a lot of coaches being creative defensively, and that's pushing players to become better offensively,' Durant said. 'Because when I'm working out, I'm thinking even the man defense is starting to look like a zone a little bit with so many gaps.' The Rockets are projected to be championship contenders. Lakers' Luka Doncic teases return to US for Jordan Brand tour

The post Lakers' Luka Doncic teases return to US for Jordan Brand tour appeared first on ClutchPoints. Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic is back in the United States, although it likely won't be for long. Doncic, who will soon become eligible to sign a massive, long-term contract extension with the Lakers, posted on Instagram, seemingly indicating he is back in the States after time in Europe following a disappointing first-round playoff exit. 'Via his Instagram account, Luka Dončić confirms he has arrived in New York to begin his Jordan Brand promotional tour for his signature sneaker line,' NBA insider Marc Stein posted on X, formerly Twitter, along with a screenshot of Doncic's IG Story which shows a person in a suit holding a chauffeur sign that says Luka and has the Jordan Jumpman logo. Last offseason, Doncic, along with other NBA stars, went on a promotional tour of China for Jordan, during which Doncic walked on the Great Wall of China. At the time, he was still a member of the Dallas Mavericks, and now, he appears to be a rather content member of the Lakers. Despite that, Doncic is not expected to re-sign with the Lakers until after the conclusion of EuroBasket, which runs from late August to mid-September across four countries. Doncic was shockingly traded by the Mavericks to L.A. in February, ending a successful, nearly seven-year stint with the franchise, which reached the Western Conference Finals in 2022 and the NBA Finals in 2024, both with Doncic at the helm, leading the way. Upon his arrival in Los Angeles, Doncic initially struggled but soon found a groove and helped the Lakers fly down the stretch of the regular season, earning the third seed in the notoriously deep and tough Western Conference. But in the postseason, without an experienced big man and with Doncic hobbled and ill, the Lakers were smashed by the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games. A year earlier, Doncic and the Mavericks had beaten Minnesota in five in the conference finals. This offseason, while one of the longer ones Doncic has been able to enjoy during his NBA career, has not been without drama. In particular, Doncic's Lakers co-star LeBron James has been in the news consistently after his agent, Rich Paul, indicated James could ask for a trade. Media reports subsequently surfaced that detailed James' alleged annoyance at the Lakers' preference for and actions in support of Doncic. Additionally, Dorian Finney-Smith, a close friend of Doncic who he played with for years in Dallas and this past season with the Lakers, signed with the Houston Rockets. The Lakers had acquired Finney-Smith from the Brooklyn Nets in December and had hopes to re-sign the wing.
