Egypt's agricultural exports hit 5.8 million tons to date
Farouq added that these results reflect the concerted efforts undertaken at all levels to ensure that Egyptian agricultural products reach international markets at the highest standards of quality, thereby further solidifying Egypt's position as a regional and global agricultural hub.
He reiterated the Ministry of Agriculture's commitment to sustaining efforts aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity, improving crop quality, and broadening the range of export markets, initiatives designed to support both the national economy and the livelihoods of Egyptian farmers.
The minister also announced a notable increase in Egypt's agricultural exports, which have surpassed 5.8 million tons to date, with citrus fruits and potatoes maintaining their positions at the top of the country's export list.
This information was detailed in a report submitted on Friday 11/7/2025 to the minister by Ahmed Ozzam, Head of the Agricultural Services and Monitoring Sector.
The report, based on statistics from the Central Administration of Plant Quarantine (CAPQ), outlined the continued progress of Egyptian agricultural exports in international markets.
According to the report, citrus exports have surpassed 1.9 million tons, maintaining their position as Egypt's leading agricultural export.
Potatoes ranked second, with approximately 1.3 million tons exported, reflecting sustained international demand for both crops, attributed to their consistently high quality.
According to the same statistics, exports of fresh onions reached approximately 209,000 tons, while fresh and dry beans accounted for around 160,000 tons. Grape exports totaled approximately 120,000 tons, securing the fifth position among Egyptian agricultural exports, followed by sweet potatoes in sixth place with about 115,000 tons exported.
The list of top Egyptian agricultural exports also includes, in descending order: fresh garlic, fresh strawberries, fresh tomatoes, guava, mangoes, and pomegranates.
Farouq underlined that his ministry is continuously working to support exporters by removing obstacles and enhancing the global competitiveness of Egyptian products.
He highlighted the pivotal role of the agricultural sector in Egypt's economy and its significant contribution to the country's comprehensive development plans.
Minister Farouq further explained that the exceptional performance of the agro export system stems from collaboration among farmers, producers, and exporters, all dedicated to cultivating high-quality crops in accordance with best agricultural practices.
He noted that this collaborative effort is supported by ongoing oversight from agricultural engineers and researchers, the Central Administration of Plant Quarantine (CAPQ), central reference laboratories within the ministry, and the Department of Foreign Agricultural Relations.
'Together, these entities work to open new markets for Egyptian produce and to ensure thorough monitoring of the entire supply chain, from the farm to international markets,' he added.

The Coordinator of the Specialized Council for Economic Development affiliated with the Egyptian Presidency, Hussein Eissa, said that Egyptians abroad are always concerned about their homeland, and their interest in it goes beyond mere remittances despite the importance of them. Expatriates are always eager to buy apartments or villas in Egypt, he noted, and as they enjoy clean and well-maintained restaurants, cafes or gardens they have a vested interest towards any developments in the national infrastructure. The new tax reforms could encourage Egyptians abroad to invest more, especially as they see the appreciation for local investors, he said. Eissa explained that Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk told him that a second, third, and fourth package of tax reforms would be forthcoming, and that the goal was for financiers to be partners, not enemies. He added that the Finance Minister also emphasized that he was not concerned with the outcome, as these would come later after building up trust and proper partnerships. Kouchouk revealed that the package of facilities was not a top-down idea, Eissa said, adding that the minister would eventually leave his post, but the employees would remain. Therefore, he personally sought to convince them and gain their support for the new approach. Eissa said that tax evasion is primarily due to bureaucratic complications. He estimates that these complications are responsible for 70 percent of Egypt's tax problem and the weak revenue as a percentage of GDP. He also notes that the other 30 percent is due to deviant or improper behavior, taking into account that the more bureaucratic complications there are, the worse human behavior is, and vice versa. Egypt keen on cementing ties with continent: FM Abdelatty to African counterparts - Foreign Affairs
Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty held separate bilateral meetings with several of his African counterparts and African Union senior officials to cement relations, activate bilateral cooperation mechanisms, and enhance trade, investment, and economic ties. This occurred on the sidelines of the 47th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union. During the meetings, FM Abdelatty and his African counterparts discussed intensifying cooperation and leveraging the expertise and capabilities of leading Egyptian companies, especially in energy, construction, health, and infrastructure sectors. They also stressed the importance of coordinating positions in African and international forums and intensifying joint efforts to promote regional integration and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across Africa, Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ambassador Tamim Khallaf said on Monday. FM Abdelatty also highlighted Egypt's ongoing efforts to support development in Africa, particularly through the activities of the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD), affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. EAPD aims to support Africa's development aspirations through the provision of capacity-building assistance, the transfer of knowledge, skills, and expertise, and the promotion of creative industries, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said at the 23rd African Union Summit in June 2014.
