From Grapevine to the ACMs: Post Malone's country music journey brings him home
The biggest names in country music are headed to Frisco this week for the ACM Awards, but one of the most talked-about nominees might be a surprise.
Post Malone, best known for his hits in hip-hop, pop, and rap, is now making waves in the country scene, and he's up for five ACM Awards.

From Grapevine to Stardom
Before the fame and stadium tours, Malone was just a kid from Grapevine with a guitar and a dream.
CBS News Texas sat down with someone who remembers those early days well: his father, Rich Post.
"He was like most normal kids," Rich said. "Floated from one interest to another... skateboarding, football…"
The Guitar Hero moment
But everything changed when his son, whose real name is Austin Post, picked up Guitar Hero.
"He got really good," Rich said. "So good that he asked for a real guitar for Christmas when he was 12. That's really when it all started."
From local appearances to stadiums
From local gigs around DFW, including a memorable performance at Grapevine's Main Street Fest, Austin quickly began building his career.
"They paid him, I think, like $500 to play the Audi stage," Rich recalled. "I thought to myself, 'Who is paying these kids $500 to play music?' And now look at him, he's playing stadiums."
Predicted for fame
Austin graduated from Grapevine High School in 2013, and even then, his classmates saw something special. He was voted "Most Likely to Be Famous."
"It would have been really vain and pompous on my part to think that would actually happen," Rich said.
Country roots and recognition

Now, Post Malone is diving into country music, and the industry is taking notice. His album "F-1 Trillion" and hit single "I Had Some Help" with Morgan Wallen have earned him five nominations at this year's ACM Awards.
When asked if growing up in North Texas had any influence on Austin's country roots, Rich didn't hesitate.
"Yeah, I would absolutely say so," he said. "But it's really not a surprise to anybody who's been along for the whole ride."
North Texans cheer for local talent
While the world will be watching the ACMs Thursday night, North Texas will be watching a little closer, cheering on one of their own.
"It's really heartwarming to see how supportive and how excited the community is to have him back in town and claiming him as one of their own," Rich said.

Eminem's Publishing Company Files Copyright Lawsuit Against Meta
Eminem's publishing company Eight Mile Style has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Meta. The suit filed in the U.S. District Court Eastern District of Michigan Southern Division and reviewed by Rolling Stone alleges that the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp has distributed the rapper's music across its platforms without proper licensing permissions. 'Despite their not being licensed, the recordings of the Eight Mile Compositions have been reproduced and synchronized with visual content on Meta's platforms across millions of videos, which have been viewed billions of times,' the complaint claims. 'Meta's years-long and ongoing infringement of the Eight Mile Compositions is another case of a trillion (with a 'T') dollar company exploiting the creative efforts of musical artists for the obscene monetary benefit of its executives and shareholders without a license and without regard to the rights of the owners of the intellectual property.' The suit acknowledges that Meta 'has removed several of the Eight Mile Compositions from its Music Libraries in the preceding months,' including 'Lose Yourself,' but states that a karaoke version, a piano instrumental, and one regular cover version by a different artist are still available. 'This in addition to other prominent Eminem works which remain available on Meta's services,' the company's lawyers claim, citing 'Till I Collapse.' The suit alleges that Meta's 'rampant infringement' extends beyond allowing users to upload copyrighted audio to its platforms. 'This case involves Meta's knowing infringement of the Eight Mile Compositions by first reproducing and storing them in Meta's online Music Libraries, and then distributing them for users to select and incorporate into their own photos and videos made available for public streaming on the users' WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram accounts,' the complaint claims. The publishing company is seeking monetary damages 'including actual damages, damages for the diminished value of the copyrights by Defendants' theft of them, lost profits, and Defendants' profits attributable to the infringement.' Alternatively, the company is seeking 'maximum statutory damages for willful copyright infringement for each of Eight Mile Style's works,' which would amount to '$150,000 per work, times 243 works, times 3 platforms,' or $109,350,000. Eight Mile Style has also requested a permanent injunction to halt ongoing infringement. A rep for Meta did not immediately return Rolling Stone's request for comment. The legal filing comes less than a year after Eight Mile Style lost its copyright infringement lawsuit against Spotify after five years due to a legal loophole. In September, a Tennessee judge ruled that while Spotify did not have the proper streaming license, as the publisher claimed, any imposed penalties would have fallen on Kobalt Music Group, a royalty collection agency. In the suit, Eight Mile Style sought nearly $40 million, claiming to not have received payment for billions of Spotify streams. James Blunt celebrates the 20th anniversary of his biggest hit that he calls ‘a bit creepy'
James Blunt's song 'You're Beautiful' is beloved, even though it's not about what some people imagine. The British singer recently shared a video and post on social media in which reflected on his hit earworm. '20 years ago today, I released a song that bought me this house,' Blunt said. 'Whoever thought a song about being high as a kite on drugs, stalking someone else's girlfriend would resonate quite so much? Thank you. You guys are beautiful.' The song off his 2004 debut album, 'Back to Bedlam,' became a worldwide hit in 2005. In 2020, the former British army captain wrote an essay for the Guardian about 'You're Beautiful' and talked about the inspiration for the tune. 'One day I was on the underground in London and saw an ex-girlfriend with her new boyfriend,' he wrote. 'Our eyes met, but we just walked past each other, and I went home and wrote the words to 'You're Beautiful' in two minutes.' He also addressed the disconnect between how the song came to be and how fans viewed it. 'It's always been portrayed as romantic, but it's actually a bit creepy,' he wrote. Pop singer Jessie J says she has been diagnosed with early breast cancer
NEW YORK — The English pop singer Jessie J says she has been diagnosed with breast cancer and will undergo surgery after her performance at the London music festival Capital's Summertime Ball next weekend. Jessie J, 37, shared the news in an Instagram video on Wednesday. 'I was diagnosed with early breast cancer,' she said in the clip. 'Cancer sucks in any form, but I'm holding onto the word 'early'.' 'It's a very dramatic way to get a boob job. I am going to disappear for a bit after Summertime Ball to have my surgery, and I will come back with massive (expletive) and more music.' The annual Summertime Ball will be held at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, June 15. She told her social media audience that she felt compelled to share her diagnosis. 'I just wanted to be open and share it,' she said. 'One, because, selfishly, I do not talk about it enough. I'm not processing it because I'm working so hard. I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories. I'm an open book. It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much similar and worse – that's the bit that kills me.' The Grammy-nominated Jessie J has long been celebrated for her robust soprano and R&B-informed pop hits, like the 2014 collaboration with Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande, 'Bang Bang,' and 2011's 'Domino.' She has released five albums across her career, most recently, 2018's Christmas album, 'This Christmas Day.' She has been releasing new music in 2025, including the singles 'Living My Best Life' and 'No Secrets.' A new album is expected later this year. She has a son, Sky Safir Cornish Colman, born in 2023. A representative for Jessie J did not immediately respond to The Associated Press' request for comment.
