6 Crochet Dresses And Exactly What To Wear Them With This Summer

Elle12-06-2025
The crochet dress is having a big revival this summer. From Supriya Lele's crochet-filled Mango collaboration, to Magda Butrym's crochet covered New York pop-up, crochet has become the the fabrication of the season, and summer dresses always reign supreme.
And while the technique has a long and storied history traversing continents, centuries and social movements, we're mainly concerned with how we wear the semi-naked fabric in the here and now. Feel free to accuse us of being shallow, but we think you might feel the same.
Starting at the foundation, an outfit featuring crochet likely means an outfit featuring a level of nudity. Thankfully, underwear, solutionwear and bikinis mean you can decide exactly how naked you want to be, according to your personal preference and setting. If you're looking to lean a little more incognito, Skims, Commando and Spanx offer skin-hued basics that allow you to stay under the radar, while brands like Fruity Booty will help you pack a colourful or patterned punch with your underwear or swimwear.
As for the dress itself, designers such as Diotima and Kettel Atelier highlight the true craftsmanship of crochet work thanks to their intricate midi dresses. Likewise, Dôen and Rixo give a portal to the Seventies with their Birkin-esque mini dresses. Whether for the beach or the bar, Mango has a crochet option for both.
Now, for shoes. Heels and flats work equally well with crochet, but anything with texture should be prioritised. Whether you double up on crocheting, contrast with PVC or complement with woven rope, the more tactile, the better.
Looks like we have the naked dress of summer 2025, now wear it with aplomb.

If you hate shorts, these 8 pairs of flowy pants are perfect for hot summer weather

My hot weather fashion hack? Flowy pants. If you're in your 40s or 50s, there are plenty of flattering dresses I've found that are perfect for summer 2025. But if you're not so into dresses (or shorts), I'll let you in on a little fashion hack: wear flowy pants. They're lightweight, cooling and super versatile, making them a great option for everything from days at the office to afternoons spent chasing your kids at the park. On a recent trip to the mall, I checked out 10 stores and tried on loose, flowy pants at each. Talbots was one retailer that stood out with a ton of figure-flattering styles — many on sale — and I was also impressed by Levi's and their Baggy Dad Cargo pants, as well as some chic picks from Mango, RW&CO and more. Scroll down for eight pairs of flowy pants that left me most impressed by their comfort and cuteness. The best part? Many of them can be worn well into the cooler days of fall. RW&CO High-Rise Tapered-Leg Ankle Pants $70 $90 at RW&CO If I had to choose a favourite from all the pairs I tried on, it would be these striped pants from RW&CO. The stretch viscose twill fabric fits my frame perfectly, and I love the removable self-tie sash. The casual paperbag waistband adds to the appeal, and with a high-rise design that falls right at the ankle, these are pants I could run errands in all day long — and then wear to evening cocktails or a date night when paired with heels. Gap 365 High Rise Linen-Blend Trousers $77 $130 at Gap These Gap pants are pure perfection! I just wish I had discovered them sooner. The high-rise fit, with the hook and bar closure, creates a tailored look, while the vertical stripes add a touch of elegance. Best of all, they're currently 40 per cent off as part of Gap's Friends & Family sale. Available in sizes 00 to 20, these pants also fit a wide range of bodies. Mango Straight-Fit Pleated Trousers $100 at Mango I need more trousers in my life like these loose-fitting pleated ones from Mango. I can see these paired with a white T-shirt and oversized blazer for a chic, casual look. At 48, I also appreciate the high-waisted fit. They are definitely on the longer side (I'm 5'5" and wearing a size 4), so keep that in mind when ordering. Talbot's Wide Leg Pull-On Pants $129 at Talbots The moment I spotted these pants in the store, I knew I had to try them on. I'm not usually one for bold prints, but something about these looked too good to pass up. These full-length, 100 per cent viscose pants are super easy to pull on and off, making them perfect for a weekend getaway. If you're searching for a fun and fashionable pair of everyday pants, I'd highly recommend these. Dynamite Wide Leg Pull On Pants $70 at Dynamite If you're looking for a pair of pull-on elastic waistband pants that you can easily pack in your overnight bag, these Dynamite pants are a great choice. Made from 100 per cent polyester, they are not only easy to clean but also wrinkle-resistant. The lined high-rise flowy pants are so versatile, I might even grab them in all three available colourways. Levi's Baggy Dad Cargo Women's Pants $108 at Levi's If you grew up in the '90s, like me, you likely owned several pairs of cargo pants — and none would have compared to these ones from Levi's. They're nostalgic, but the non-stretch twill fabric keeps them from looking sloppy. My first pair of cargos was actually a hand-me-down from my dad's time in the army — so I especially love the name of these. Talbots Wide Crop Pull-On Gauze Pants $70 $90 at Talbots I loved so many of the pants I tried on at Talbots, especially these incredibly comfortable pull-on lightweight gauze ones, which also feature stylish button detailing on the sides. I'm heading to Florida later this month, and I'm taking these ultra-flowy pants with me. Banana Republic Cotton Poplin Romper $200 at Banana Republic OK, it's not pants — but I have to recommend this cute romper. I've been really into rompers this year, and this one in particular from Banana Republic, with its drawstring waist and button-down front, was too cute to pass up. The tie-dye pattern is super fun, and the longer, loose-fitting shorts provide all-day comfort. Of course, the deep side seam pockets won me over. I can easily slip it on over my bathing suit for a day at the beach or dress it up with wedge sandals for lunch with the girls.

These Summer Nail Ideas Are So Hot They Basically Match the Forecast

Great news for all sun-seekers: these last few weeks of the summer are set to be sunny and bright, which means there's really no better time to embrace something that's equally vibrant, lighthearted, and fun (yet no less refined) for your summer manicure. Sunny nail designs with pops of yellow and orange are still incredibly popular for the warmer months, while polka dots and French manicures prove to be the celebrity favorite, as spotted on Dua Lipa and Kylie Jenner. Elsewhere, whimsical fruit designs are an eclectic and charming way to lean into the laid-back mood of summer. But if you're looking for something fresher and unexpected, consider the 'Ariel manicure,' the modern, grown-up take on sea-life motifs and oceanic colorways that will no doubt please the sea princess. For fans of aura nails, the zodiac manicure is equally enigmatic and brings a sense of magic to your look. This is a great time to make the most of punchy hues, too. Whether done in stripes or as a single-tone manicure, opt for summer's trendiest nail colors such as butter yellow and hot pinks. Modern art designs are also incredibly smart yet no less eye-catching. Consider leaning into your artistic side with a Warholian use of contrasting color combinations or Kusama-esque dotty designs. Or, why not lean into Riviera nails with bold stripes and the use of coastal, beachy hues such as blue, white, orange, and yellow? 'Coastal minimalism is the perfect summer nail trend for those who love a fresh, understated look with a touch of seaside charm,' agrees manicurist Ami Streets. 'Think crisp white bases, soft sand-toned nudes, and delicate accents like fine navy stripes, single seashell charms, or tiny pearls. The palette stays light and airy, evoking sun-bleached beaches and ocean breezes,' she tells ELLE, name-checking Kure Bazaar Milk and Navy as go-to hues. Hannah Taylor, an ambassador at TheGelBottle adds, 'Washes of neutral bases with tiny starfish, hibiscus flowers, and beach-inspired minimalism have been popular among clients wanting something wearable and versatile.' All of these maximalist trends can easily be adapted onto an understated 'soap nail' base for a more discreet interpretation. There truly is something for everyone. Keep reading for the five best heat-inspired nail designs to save right now. Go all out with tactile 3D motifs, shimmery metallic periwinkle, and a glorious starfish design. Minimalists, we see you. Go discreet and understated with a barely there base and opt for a low-key, tiny design on each nail. A neutral base brings softness to the eye-catching gold starfish and floral details. Whether you've got a last-minute vacation booked or not, this holiday-themed set will transport you to bustling farmers' markets and seaside cafés. Dial up the baby-blue manicure with impactful turquoise for sunnier days. Soft lemonade yellow and glossy aquamarine make for an impossibly fresh color combination. Get playful with varying textures and cool colorways, such as retro blue and earthy pistachio green. Trust manicurist Betina Goldstein to elevate unexpected color combinations in the most elegant way possible. Polka dots are here to stay. Go all out with a punchy, high-visibility color palette that's guaranteed to stop traffic. A natural progression from the aura nails, a zodiac-coded design in a moody hue is perfect for those who embrace a deeper color palette all year-round. This magical violet set is made for Cancer season but can easily be tailored to your zodiac sign. Fiery and dramatic, perfect for the Leos. It's not one for the faint-hearted, but in these last few weeks of summer, it's worth going the extra mile. A blossoming, colorful bouquet promises to instantly lift your spirits. The cool-girl take on flowers? Not shying away from richer cocoa hues and a mix-and-match set.
