Pos Malaysia posts RM41.5 mil Q1 loss on weaker revenue

The Sun21-05-2025
KUALA LUMPUR: Pos Malaysia Bhd recorded a net loss of RM41.5 million for the first quarter ended March 31, 2025 (1Q 2025), widening from a net loss of RM19.6 million in the same quarter last year, weighed down by lower contributions from its postal and logistics segments.
Revenue decreased to RM467 million from RM491 million previously.
'The postal segment remained the largest contributor, generating RM279.1 million in revenue.
'However, this marked a four per cent decline due to lower bulk mail and international mail volumes,' said Pos Malaysia in a Bursa Malaysia filing today.
Pos Malaysia said the logistics segment also saw a significant drop in revenue to RM49.1 million from RM64.8 million, mainly due to a decrease in automotive and freight management activities and a change in pricing mechanisms and the extended docking period of a vessel.
In contrast, the group said the aviation segment contributed higher revenue of RM93 million in 1Q 2025 compared to RM91.7 million in the previous corresponding quarter, mainly attributable to the in-flight catering business with a higher number of meals uplifted.
It added that the others segment continues to grow healthily with higher revenue, mainly attributed to increased sales of digital certificates.
POS Malaysia added that while recognising potential challenges, including the uncertain impact of US tariffs on the postal segment, the group remains confident in its transformation efforts and ability to deliver sustainable, long-term value to stakeholders.

Amway profit plunges, warns of weaker full-year performance

KUALA LUMPUR: Amway (M) Holdings Bhd has warned that its full-year revenue and profit are likely to fall, citing prevailing business uncertainties. 'Given the prevailing uncertainties in the business environment, the group anticipates a decline in revenue and profit for the full year,' Amway said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia. In the second quarter ended June 30, Amway's net profit plunged to RM2.4mil from RM24.5mil a year earlier, translating into earnings per share of 1.48 sen versus 14.93 sen previously. Quarterly revenue fell 10% to RM266.7mil compared with RM296.4mil a year prior. For the first half ended June 30, Amway recorded a net profit of RM15.6mil, a 72.7% drop from RM57.3mil a year earlier, while revenue fell to RM560.1mil from RM618.5mil previously. Amway said its first-half profitability was hit by weaker sales and rising costs, and it is doubling down on the health and wellbeing segment with new products, ABO programmes and tech upgrades. 'For the first half of 2025, the group recorded a decline in revenue, reflecting the continued impact of weak consumer demand and a challenging economic environment. 'Despite these headwinds, the group remains committed to delivering shareholders' value and upholding our position as a trusted provider of health and wellbeing products. The group will continue to focus on delivering holistic gut health solutions to meet evolving consumer needs,' Amway said. Amway has declared a second single-tier interim dividend of 5 sen per share on Aug 20, payable on Sept 22.

SP Setia's 2Q FY2025 Net Profit Drops To RM99.8 Mln

BUSINESS KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- SP Setia Bhd's second quarter (2Q) net profit ended June 30, 2025 (FY2025) dropped to RM99.8 million from RM295.03 million in the same quarter a year ago. It said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia today that its revenue also eased to RM943.73 million against RM1.49 billion in 2Q FY2024, contributed mostly from local development. Sales, however, recorded an uptick at RM1.186 billion versus RM883 million in 2Q FY2024, primarily from the group's domestic projects. For the six-month period ended June 30, 2025 (2H FY2025), net profit was lower at RM166.82 million, versus RM372.36 million in the same period last year. Revenue also slid to RM1.71 billion compared with RM2.97 billion previously. Sales were mainly from domestic projects at RM1.42 billion, representing 75 per cent of total sales, while the group's international projects contributed RM480 million or 25 per cent of the total sales. The group said it has continued to reduce its borrowings, with a current net-gearing ratio of 0.34 times, aligning with the group's debt reduction strategies. Meanwhile, following the Overnight Policy Rate (OPR) cut, it anticipated growth in the property development industry, particularly the residential segment. On July 9, 2025, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) cut the OPR by 25 basis points to 2.75 per cent, its first rate cut in five years.

FBM KLCI ends marginally softer as funds nibble on heavyweights

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia pared most of its earlier losses to close marginally lower as profit-taking was offset by selective buying in heavyweights, amid cautious sentiment in regional markets, a dealer said. At 5pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) slipped 2.03 points or 0.13 per cent to close at 1,588.21 from Tuesday's close of 1,590.24. The benchmark index opened 2.21 points lower at 1,588.03 and hovered between 1,583.40 and 1,591.04 throughout the day. The broader market was negative with losers outnumbering gainers 647 to 376, while 487 counters were unchanged, 1,068 untraded and 16 suspended. Turnover slipped to 2.55 billion units worth RM2.5 billion from 2.6 billion units worth RM2.74 billion on Tuesday. UOB Kay Hian Wealth Advisors Sdn Bhd head of investment research Mohd Sedek Jantan said the FBM KLCI ended marginally softer but pared early drawdowns. This was supported by selective buying interest from local funds in blue-chip heavyweights, even as broader market sentiment stayed guarded ahead of policy signals from the Federal Reserve's Jackson Hole Economic Policy Symposium later this week. "Sector rotation was evident, with industrials outperforming on a double-digit petrochemical rally, alongside strength in plantations and consumer cyclicals, underscoring underlying domestic demand resilience amid external policy uncertainty," he added.
