New OnePlus 15 details from leaker indicate OnePlus has divorced its imaging partner

The OnePlus 15 is expected to be released in October although a global release won't take place until 2026. Last month, prolific leaker Digital Chat Station posted on Weibo that the device could have the largest battery of any flagship phone available with a capacity of over 7000 mAh. Not only is the phone's battery expected to be massive, but it will replenish quickly with a speed of 100W for both wired and wireless charging.
Digital Chat Station's Weibo post in May also mentioned that the OnePlus 15 will have IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance. The Ingress Protection rating of 68 means that a phone is impervious to dust and can be submerged in fresh, pure, and still water to a depth of 1.5 meters (4.92 feet) for as long as 30 minutes and emerge unscathed. The IP69 rating means that the device is protected from high-pressure, high-temperature water jets. A new Weibo post from Digital Chat Station posted today reveals that OnePlus is dialing back the specs of the phone's display and it will feature a 6.78-inch flat screen with a 1.5K resolution screen which will succeed the 6.82-inch 2K display (with quad-curved corners) on the OnePlus 13 . In case you were wondering why there is no OnePlus 14, the number "4" in Chinese sounds like the Chinese word for Death. For superstitious reasons, the OnePlus 13 sequel is the OnePus 15 to avooid the numeral "4." This issue is known as tetraphobia.
The OnePlus 15 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 application processor (AP). Interestingly, the prototype model (an engineering test device) doesn't feature a round camera island although the final build may differ. It looks like OnePlus might end its partnership with Hasselblad and, similar to Huawei's proprietary Xmage mobile imaging brand, develop its own in-house imaging platform. The leaker says to expect the OnePlus 15 to feature triple-rear cameras backed by three 50MP sensors including a primary camera with a large sensor and a periscope zoom lens. OnePlus has come a long way since the release of the OnePlus One in April 2014. As a new brand back then, OnePlus required that those purchasing the phone have an invitation to purchase a unit. This was done so that the company could keep track of how many phones it needed to build allowing it to keep a tighter control over costs. Back in 2014, the OnePlus One was available with 16GB of storage for $299 and $349 for the model with 64GB of storage.

As if the yearly slimming down of phones wasn't enough, we now have the upcoming iPhone 17 Air, and the currently available Galaxy S25 Edge. Both are phones that aim to provide users with a super slim chassis while retaining flagship as it turns out, not many people are interested in such a thing. The Galaxy S25 Edge isn't selling, prompting Samsung to cut down on production. And, if this is anything to go by, then I bet that Apple is in a panic right about now. The iPhone 17 Air is too slim to pack much juice. | Image credit — Majin Bu The biggest problem with both of these phones is the fact that they are limited by today's technology. Apple and Samsung, in particular, are quite slow to adopt emerging innovations and often trail behind their competitors. According to all of the reports that have come out on the iPhone 17 Air , it will be an expensive phone with less powerful hardware and a tiny battery: 2,800 mAh. If that sounds ridiculous to you, don't worry, you're not alone. Apple is aware that such a small battery is grounds for an awful user experience. As such, the company has introduced AI-powered battery saving in the hopes that the iPhone 17 Air will at least have passable battery life. However, if the Galaxy S25 Edge is any indication, then the iPhone 17 Air will cost around the same as the iPhone 17 Pro. And the only people who'd choose the Air are either users that desperately want something new, or people with very small pockets. All in all, this was not the time for Samsung and Apple to try out super slim phones. Especially when both companies have still not begun using newer, denser batteries. Funnily enough, the iPhone 17 Air is actually supposed to replace the iPhone Plus models. The Plus remains the worst-selling iPhone model, and Apple was hoping that the Air would be more successful. However, the Plus models themselves were a replacement for the iPhone mini. The mini models also had the same problem: they sold poorly. If the iPhone 17 Air also flops, then we might be allowed to say that Apple's 'extra' model each year is cursed, kind of like the Defense Against the Dark Arts position in Harry Potter. Furthermore, if this phone doesn't sell well either, it might be the shortest-lived iPhone model ever. Apple may return to the drawing board for the iPhone 18 series next year, because it would want a successful lineup for the 20th anniversary of the iPhone in 2027. Apple Intelligence may be complete next year. Maybe. | Video credit — Apple Now, I'm not normally one to advocate waiting for the next iteration of a product line, because then you just keep waiting, and waiting, and waiting forever. But 2026 may actually be a much more interesting year for the iPhone. For starters, it's seeming very likely now that the mythical foldable iPhone will come out next year. In addition, Apple Intelligence — the company's incomplete suite of AI tools — may finally be complete by the time the iPhone 18 rolls around. There's also multiple reports that the iPhone 18 will have a punch hole instead of the Dynamic Island. I, personally, don't like that, and think that Apple is losing its identity with the iPhone 18. But the iPhone 17 this year will also feature a redesigned exterior, so pick your poison. I just really think that the iPhone 17 Air is destined for failure, even if I actually quite like its design. If it were up to me, I'd just wait till 2027. That's the year when everything changes. Apple will unveil a new iPhone Pro model, one with no cutouts or holes on the display. But if you absolutely need a new iPhone soon, then 2026 should suffice. Or, you could just go for the base model iPhone 17 this year, which is going to look like the base model iPhone 16. Samsung Foundry halts long-term ambition, receives much-needed orders from Tesla

The report claims that Samsung will resume work on its plant in Taylor, Texas, in hopes that it will be operational in time to fulfill Tesla's orders. It is absolutely crucial that Samsung's 2 nm yields should have improved by the time this plant goes I'm sure that postponing the plans for 1.4 nm chip production must have stung, it hardly jeopardizes Samsung's future. As mentioned earlier, Apple won't even start using 2 nm chips until late next year. Samsung has plenty of time, and the jump from 2 nm to 1.4 nm would have hardly been chip measurements are marketing more than anything. If Samsung is able to perfect its 2 nm yields and deliver Exynos chips that can hold their own against Snapdragon, then the company will make it out just as it was able to do for its 3 nm process, I think it shouldn't take long for Samsung to improve the yields of its 2 nm chip manufacturing. When that's done, I hope that we'll finally have an Apple silicon moment for Exynos.
