USC women's basketball announces nonconference schedule for 2025-2026 season
The Trojans will certainly not be shying away from high-profile opponents this year. USC's nonconference slate includes matchups with the two teams who played in last year's national championship game in South Carolina and UConn, as well as a trip to South Bend, Indiana to take on annual powerhouse Notre Dame.
Let's take a look at the Trojans' full nonconference slate:
Vs. New Mexico State, November 4
USC will tip off its season at Galen Center in early November.
Vs. North Carolina State (in Charlotte), November 9
It will not take long for Lindsay Gottlieb's team to face their first real test of the season. Less than a week in, the Women of Troy will travel across the country to take on NC State at Spectrum Center in Charlotte.
Vs. South Carolina (at Crypto.com Arena), November 15
USC will take on the defending national runners-up in Dowtown Los Angeles in an early season showdown.
Vs. Portland, November 18
The Trojans will return to Galen Center for a matchup with Portland on November 18.
At Notre Dame, November 21
After falling to the Irish at home last season, USC will make the trip to South Bend in 2025.
Vs. Tennessee Tech, November 25
The Trojans will spend Thanksgiving week at home with a matchup against Tennessee Tech.
Vs. Pepperdine, November 28
The Waves will come to Galen Center for a Southern California showdown on Black Friday.
Vs. Saint Mary's, December 2
The Women of Troy will host a West Coast Conference foe to kick off the month of December.
Vs. UConn, December 13
In a rematch of the past two Elite Eights, USC and UConn will square off at Galen Center. Both teams will be without their respective superstars from last season, however, as the Huskies' Paige Bueckers is now in the WNBA, and the Trojans' Juju Watkins will almost certainly still be recovering from the ACL injury that she suffered during last year's NCAA Tournament.
Vs. Cal Poly, December 18
In one final tune-up game against a mid-major opponent, the Trojans will host Cal Poly.
Vs. Cal (In San Francisco), December 21
USC will close out nonconference play with an old Pac-12 showdown in the Bay Area.

Frustration boils over as Wings fall 88-78 to Caitlin Clark-less Fever at AAC
Friday's Dallas Wings-Indiana Fever game was the second game this season originally planned for Arlington's College Park Center before the WNBA moved both to the American Airlines Center in hopes of capitalizing on a matchup between two of the league's young stars — Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark. In both games, Clark didn't play, Bueckers did and shined, but the Wings fell short: an unfortunate case of deja vu for the 8-21 Dallas Wings. Friday's 88-78 loss was the team's eighth loss in 10 games. After starting the season 1-11, Dallas had won five of seven to build momentum heading into July, but this recent stretch has the team in 11th place, seven games back of the 8th and final playoff spot. Friday's game came with an extra level of frustration directed at the officiating crew. Bueckers was sent to the floor multiple times in the game with no foul calls, one of which resulted in her only turnover in a brilliant 22-point, 4-assist, 2-steal night. She said postgame the team didn't match the Fever's physicality until the fourth quarter. 'We're just building reps and we're a very young team,' Bueckers said. 'This is a new experience for a lot of us playing together, growing together.' The team is indeed one of the youngest in the WNBA and Bueckers highlighted the importance of gaining quality reps in close games as an opportunity to grow. Her head coach offered similar sentiments. 'You have to win games,' Wings head coach Chris Koclanes said. 'We have to sit in this and it's not going to feel good, but you learn and you have a positive mindset and you don't let one game try to affect the rest.' But that positive mindset may be cracking. Players were visibly frustrated at times throughout Friday's game, not just at officiating, but at the scoreboard. Dallas shot just 2-15 from behind the arc, and one of those makes was a last-second three-pointer by Li Yueru after the game was long decided. In the 38 or so competitive minutes of the game, Dallas shot just 14 three-pointers. Indiana, by comparison, shot 28 and made 12 of them. Bueckers said she wanted to hunt more threes in transition moving forward, but Indiana did a good job limiting their three-point opportunities. In addition to the 30-point differential from behind the arc, Indiana outrebounded Dallas 44-30, including 14 offensive rebounds compared to Dallas' 4. Yueru, Dallas' 6'7' center, played just eight minutes as Dallas got killed on the boards. Koclanes said he liked what Haley Jones was bringing and wanted to get the team's tempo up. Indiana had 14 fast break points to Dallas' 10. Aziaha James, another young bright spot for the Wings, played just 16 minutes Friday. Her minutes have fluctuated from 38 in early July down to just seven in Wednesday's 88-85 loss to the Atlanta Dream. 'We had 10 available tonight, when Maddy comes back, we'll have 11. If you divide 200 by 11, no one's going to be happy,' Koclanes said postgame. 'That's what I'm trying to say, but that's on me each night. You want to try and establish rhythm and normality with your subbing and rotations and you go into every game thinking that's going to be the case and then the game things change.' Another interesting minutes situation Friday was Arike Ogunbowale's playing time. The franchise's cornerstone for the better part of a decade played 26 of the game's first 30 minutes before playing zero fourth quarter minutes. When asked about the decision to play the 4th without Ogunbowale, Koclanes stood by his decision and said the group on the floor had momentum and he wanted to see what that group could do. However, in an answer to another question about rebounding, that resolve started to crack as Koclanes appeared to take a shot at his guards' defense. He said his team is getting beat at the point of attack and that is affecting the team's rebounding position. 'Our guards are getting beat off the bounce, [so] our posts have to rotate to protect the rim. Now their posts are rolling three down to rebound,' Koclanes said. 'It takes everybody being in there when we throw two people at the point of attack because our guards can't guard one-on-one so we've got to send two people behind the ball.' Round it all up and it's a disappointing loss in a season filled with them. Koclanes and the team have preached about staying the course and gaining experience with a young group, but Friday's game showed the harsh reality of professional sports: team chemistry and growth don't feel as good as wins. On Friday night, the Indiana Fever defeated the Dallas Wings thanks to a 23-point performance from Kelsey Mitchell. During ION's in-game coverage, analyst Tiffany Bias Pelton compared Paige Bueckers' rookie season to Clark's 2024 campaign. Bueckers has been tremendous for the Wings, averaging 18.5 points and 5.5 assists per game. Clark, on the other hand, averaged 19.2 points and 8.4 assists per game during her rookie season. After ION displayed a graphic about Bueckers and Clark, they turned over to Pelton for her thoughts. She said, "You can tell they are two different styles of players. Paige is getting people involved. Caitlin's more looking for her shot." What made this such a head-scratching remark from Pelton was that she had the numbers in front of her. Clark averaged three more assists than Bueckers during her rookie season. Sure, Clark is looking to light up her opponents with a barrage of 3-pointers. But the numbers prove she tries to get her teammates involved. After all, she led the league in assists last season. To the surprise of absolutely no one, WNBA fans ripped Pelton for her bizarre commentary. "I'll never understand this lol Caitlin broke the LEAGUE record for most assists her rookie year and they still refuse to say she's an amazing playmaker," one fan replied. "Paige has an exceptional midrange game and a quick release. I'll give her that. She is not near the playmaker that Clark is - no one else is," a second fan wrote. "Who said this?,You can't be a league leader in assists if all you're doing is looking for your own shot," a third fan argued. "Like can they not read?! The assists stats are right in front of their face," another fan said. It's a shame that fans and media members can't just appreciate Bueckers and Clark's greatness. They'll be representing the WNBA for a very long time. The Fever will be back in action this Sunday against the Seattle Storm. As of now, there's no timetable for Clark's return. Will Caitlin Clark play today? Indiana Fever vs Dallas Wings
The Indiana Fever (15-12) are back in action on Friday at the Dallas Wings (8-20). The Fever are seeking their fourth win in a row as they travel to the American Airlines Center to battle Paige Bueckers, Arike Ogunbowale and the Wings. Will Caitlin Clark return to action when the Fever do so? Unfortunately, Clark remains sidelined with a right groin injury. This is the 15th regular-season game Clark has missed in 2025 and the 16th overall, including the WNBA Commissioner's Cup final. Meghan Hall of For The Win with USA TODAY Sports shared Clark's injury news on Thursday evening. With Friday night's injury absence, Clark has missed the past six contests for the Fever. Fans last saw Clark in the final minute of the Fever's 85-77 win over the Connecticut Sun on July 15. Clark's injury woes began in the preseason when she missed the team's opening preseason contest with a left leg injury. Then, a left quadriceps strain cost Clark five games from May 28-June 10. That was followed by a left groin injury that sidelined Clark for four regular season games and the WNBA Commissioner's Cup final from June 26-July 5. The Indiana Fever released an official statement on Clark's injury status and on her recovery last Thursday, July 24. "Caitlin Clark underwent further medical evaluations earlier this week, which confirmed that no additional injuries or damage were discovered. "Clark will continue working with the medical team on her recovery and rehabilitation, with the priority on her long-term health and well-being. There is no timetable available for her return," the Fever's statement read. Last Sunday, ESPN's Holly Rowe shared a potential timeline for Clark's return. 'Last time when she came back from injury, she didn't get any practice time (or) any time to ramp up her conditioning. This time, they're going to make sure she has time and practice to get rhythm and time with her teammates. "As you look at their schedule, the third week in August provides a few more practice days where that seems like it's realistic. While she does remain day-to-day, that seems like a better timetable for a possible Caitlin Clark return," Rowe said. Tipoff against the Wings is set for 6:30 p.m. CT on ION.
