Melaka man faces five charges over online posts, stalking ex-wife
At the Sessions Court, Muhamad Akmal Helmi Mat Sirat, 35, was accused of three counts of knowingly posting offensive content on Facebook intended to annoy and harass Masura Mustafa, 40, on June 30, July 3, and July 4 at Taman Bukit Piatu Mutiara.
He was charged under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which provides for a maximum fine of RM50,000, a jail term of up to one year, or both, upon conviction.
At the Magistrate's Court, he faced two additional charges of repeatedly following and intimidating the victim at Hospital Putra Melaka and a furniture shop on July 7 and 23, and posting a defamatory statement on Facebook on July 4.
He was charged under Sections 507A and 500 of the Penal Code, which carry maximum penalties of three years' imprisonment or a fine (or both), and two years' imprisonment or a fine (or both), respectively.
Judge Haderiah Siri at the Sessions Court allowed bail at RM15,000 for all three charges, with conditions including no contact with prosecution witnesses and monthly reporting at the police station.
Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman set bail at RM6,000 for both charges, with similar conditions and weekly reporting.
Both courts fixed Aug 26 for case mention.
Deputy public prosecutors Wardah Ishhar and Syaza Nur Sharif appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyer Haziq Aizuddin Subhi. — Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 1 — Sepanggar MP Datuk Mustapha Sakmud has firmly denied claims linking his wife to the recent death of 13-year-old student Zara Qairina Mahathir, calling the allegation baseless and unbecoming of a Muslim lawmaker. He was responding to remarks made by Kota Bharu MP Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan during a Dewan Rakyat debate, which Mustapha said were misleading and unfairly targeted someone no longer in public service. She served at the school from March 20 to November 22, 2024 before retiring from the education sector. 'Since then, she has had no involvement in the school's administration or operations,' he added. He stressed that the incident involving Zara Qairina occurred on July 16 to 17, 2025, nearly eight months after his wife's retirement. 'Linking her to the incident is baseless and amounts to political manipulation,' he said. He urged all parties to verify information before making public accusations and not to exploit the tragedy for political purposes. 'Respect the ongoing investigation by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and stop spreading false claims that can harm the reputation and emotional wellbeing of innocent individuals,' he said. Mustapha also offered his condolences to Zara Qairina's family, expressing hopes that justice would be served. Earlier, Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said investigations were ongoing into the death of a female student at a school in Papar. The Form One student was believed to have fallen from the third floor of her hostel building. Zara Qairina was found critically injured around 3am on July 16 and was rushed to Queen Elizabeth I Hospital for treatment, where she later died.

4 students detained over assault of classmate
A viral video captured the complainant being assaulted by two of the four students involved. KUALA LUMPUR : Four 13-year-old students have been detained by the police to assist in investigations into the assault of a classmate at a shopping centre in Kajang. Kajang police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof said the boys were detained following a report lodged by their classmate at 12.57pm yesterday. He said investigations found that the incident occurred at about 11am on July 30, when the complainant and his classmates went to the shopping centre to address a disagreement. 'During the incident, a viral video captured the complainant being assaulted by two students, while two others recorded the act on their mobile phones,' he said in a statement. Naazron added that the victim received medical treatment at a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed to have sustained minor facial injuries. The four students involved were arrested in Kajang at 8.35pm yesterday and remanded for two days until Aug 2 to assist in investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, Section 506 of the same law for criminal intimidation, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955. Naazron advised students to obey school rules and to avoid actions that could affect their future. Ex-Muda sec-gen's views on Turun Anwar rally his own, says successor
Former Muda secretary-general Amir Hadi recently said that the anti-Anwar Ibrahim rally had missed the mark and would turn off fence-sitters. KUALA LUMPUR : Muda secretary-general Ainie Haziqah today said that the reservations expressed by her predecessor Amir Hadi over last week's Turun Anwar rally were entirely his own. When contacted by FMT, Ainie said Amir's views on the rally should be addressed to the opposition, adding that the party could not be 'selective' about the kind of rally it should back. 'For Muda, we are very consistent and straightforward on what we want out of this rally. 'So whether it is a turn-off, we should let the people decide,' she said, referring to Amir's comments. Amir said on Monday that the rally, organised by Perikatan Nasional, had missed the mark. He said it looked like a 'rushed attempt to return to power' on the part of the opposition bloc and warned that it would turn off fence-sitters. Ainie's remarks followed a joint press conference by Muda and Pejuang on the arrest of four men, including Bersatu leaders, for allegedly flogging an effigy of the prime minister during the rally last Saturday. Ainie had questioned the silence by government leaders who had promised to abolish draconian laws such as the Sedition Act. She also urged them to speak out against the arrests, which she described as an act of intimidation against peaceful protesters. Pejuang information chief Rafique Rashid Ali meanwhile said that the government was being hypocritical in arresting people as it had promised to allow the rally to proceed without interference. He also questioned the need for their arrest. 'We have no problems with investigations. But why was there a need to arrest them?' he said, adding that the police should have recorded their statements without detaining and remanding them. The four men, who have since been released, are Furqan Hakimi, who serves as the executive secretary of Bersatu Youth's Perak chapter; acting Ayer Hitam chief Syafiq Aziz; Bersatu leader Badrul Hisham Shaharin; and Sijangkang PAS Youth chief Ikhwan Syaffiq.
