‘You are Israeli, I'll kill you': Briton charged over threats, crew assault on Singapore Airlines flight from London

SINGAPORE, July 29 — A 62-year-old British man has been charged with threatening passengers and shoving a crew member aboard a Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore. According to Channel News Asia, Steven George Harris faces four charges: criminal intimidation, using insulting words to cause harassment, and two counts under the Air Navigation Act over his alleged conduct involving two crew members on flight SQ309 on April 28. Court documents allege Harris shouted slurs at fellow passengers, including racist and anti-Semitic remarks. At one point, he reportedly told a man, 'You are Israeli, **** off, I'll kill you.' He also allegedly pushed a crew member twice — causing the person to fall — and insulted a second crew member, saying, 'You are just a glorified bar man.' The incidents are said to have occurred between 5.15pm on April 27 and 6.20am the following day. Harris indicated a not guilty plea in court, and the case has been adjourned to next month. If convicted, he faces up to five years' jail and a S$100,000 (RM330,000) fine for disorderly behaviour towards crew, with additional penalties for the other offences.

Man charged over insulting behaviour against crew, other people on Singapore Airlines flight from London

SINGAPORE: A man travelling on a Singapore Airlines flight allegedly hurled insults and threats towards other people and shoved a crew member, causing him to fall. Steven George Harris, a 62-year-old Briton, was handed four charges on Tuesday (Jul 29): One each of criminal intimidation and using insulting words to cause harassment, and two under the Air Navigation Act for his behaviour against two crew members. On Apr 28, he was on flight SQ309, which was heading from London to Singapore, when he allegedly insulted a man, saying that "it was disgusting that two races would mix" and that "Britain is not white anymore". He is accused of threatening another person, saying, "You are Israeli, **** off, I'll kill you" and shouting at him to "**** off". As a result, the person believed that Harris might attack him, court documents showed. Harris allegedly called a crew member of Singapore Airlines "d***head" and pushed his shoulders twice, causing him to fall the second time. He is also accused of behaving in an insulting manner towards a second crew member by cursing at him and telling him that "you are just a glorified bar man". These incidents were said to have happened between about 5.15pm on Apr 27 and 6.20am on Apr 28. Asked to give an indication of how he would plead, Harris indicated "not guilty". The case was adjourned for a pre-trial conference next month. For causing harassment, he could be jailed for up to six months or fined up to S$5,000, or both. The penalties for criminal intimidation are a maximum of two years' jail or a fine, or both. If the threat is to cause death, the maximum jail term goes up to 10 years.

Man held for discharging homemade shotgun in Mukah over water pump row

MUKAH, July 27 — A 48-year-old local man has been arrested for allegedly discharging a homemade shotgun (locally known as a 'bakakuk') following a domestic misunderstanding in Nanga Pelugau, Ulu Balingian, Selangau. Mukah district police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said that police received a report at 9.55am on July 26 from a 36-year-old man, who claimed that his relative had fired a shot in an oil palm plantation area using a homemade firearm. 'Acting on intelligence, a team from the Mukah District Criminal Investigation Division arrested the suspect at around 10.30pm the same day at a farm house in Nanga Pelugau,' he said, adding that police also seized a homemade shotgun hidden within the plantation. He said the suspect, who works as a farmer, was brought to the Mukah District Police Headquarters for investigation. Muhamad Rizal said initial findings revealed that the motive behind the incident was a warning shot fired due to a misunderstanding involving the loss of a water pump. He added that the suspect has been remanded for two days, until July 29, to assist in investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 for unlawful possession of a firearm, and Section 39 of the Arms Act 1960 for discharging a firearm in a prohibited area. — The Borneo Post
