Judi Dench has landed what may be considered showbiz's dream job, as she's set to appear in a Sky Arts special where she enjoys drinks with one of her celebrity pals. In Drinks With Dame Judi, the Oscar winner, 90, will open up her stunning country home to her longtime friend and collaborator Kenneth Branagh, 64. While the programme has been filmed as a one-off, to hit screens later this year, Sky have shared hopes that there could be more episodes in the future. The show will be 'peppered with archive and anecdote,' as both Judi and Kenneth look back at the lighter, and more serious, moments of their illustrious careers. Phil Edgar-Jones, executive director of unscripted, said: 'We are starting a series, I hope, with Judi Dench. It was going to be called Champagne with Judi but Compliance said no. 'The first one she is going to do with Kenneth Branagh.' While best known for her stage work and Hollywood roles, including playing M in eight James Bond films, and her Oscar-winning turn in Shakespeare In Love, Judi has featured in a string of documentaries in recent years. These shows include a 2017 documentary about her passion for trees, and in 2019 she travelled to Asia for the ITV series Judi Dench's Wild Borneo Adventure. In recent years, Judi has been forced to scale back her acting roles after struggling with sight loss. The veteran actress first revealed in 2012 she is suffering with macular degeneration in her eyes, which can cause permanent and rapid central vision loss, and is the number one cause of vision loss in people over 50. Earlier this year, Judi revealed that her sight has now deteriorated to a point where she needs the help of a guide when she leaves the house. During a 2021 event for the London-based Vision Foundation, Judi opened up about how she struggles to read scripts due to her rapidly fading vision. She said: 'You find a way of just getting about and getting over the things that you find very difficult. 'I've had to find another way of learning lines and things, which is having great friends of mine repeat them to me over and over and over again. 'So I have to learn through repetition, and I just hope that people won't notice too much if all the lines are completely hopeless!' Judi also told The Graham Norton Show about how she battles to memorise lines as she used to rely on her photographic memory. She added: 'I need to find a machine that not only teaches me my lines but also tells me where they appear on the page. 'I used to find it very easy to learn lines and remember them. I could do the whole of Twelfth Night right now.' The veteran actress has not acted on the big screen since 2022's Allelujah, limiting her screen appearances in the past few years to documentaries, where she appeared as herself. And in May, she admitted that she has no future projects in the pipeline while struggling with her ailing sight. Asked if she has any plans for more acting jobs, Judi told a journalist at the Chelsea Flower show: 'No, no, I can't even see!' But towards the end of 2022, she had refused to give up and insisted she wouldn't be retiring anytime soon - despite admitting the condition even then was 'bad'.

Regardless of whether or not it happened, Rolls-Royce considers it a special enough story to recreate for Phantom's big 100th anniversary. The famous Art Deco building sits next to the English Channel, and is itself linked to another music legend: it featured in a picture taken of a band called 'The Beatles' – yup, us neither – back in 1967. 'Over the last 100 years, music artists have used Phantom to project their identity and challenge convention,' said Rolls-Royce boss Chris Brownridge. 'Their motor cars often became icons in their own right, with a lasting place in the history of modern music.' Indeed, it's reeled off a list of musicians with connections to the Phantom. Elvis bought a Phantom V in 1963. Lennon too, famously repainting his in yellow. Liberace bought a 1961 V and covered it in 'tiny mirror pieces', with the car later appearing in the biopic Behind the Candelabra. Sir Elton John – heard of him? – bought a Phantom V and Phantom VI, the former resplendent in pink and white which he later gifted to his percussionist, the latter bought on the spot on the way to a concert in 1973.
