Drive marks National Dengue Day in Yadgir
According to data provided by the department, as many as 137 cases were detected in 2024 in the district, while there have been 13 cases from January 2025 to date.
The general public should join hands with the Health Department to prevent the possible spread of dengue disease by ensuring cleanliness in and around their houses,' District Health Officer (DHO) Mahesh Biradar said during a drive recently.
Dengue fever is caused by the dengue virus which is spread through the bites of infected Aedes mosquitoes, primarily the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
'The infected person may have symptoms, including high fever, headache, rashes and muscle and joint pain. It may also cause nausea and vomiting. It may become serious if the patient isn't taken for treatment immediately after testing,' Mr. Biradar alerted.
District Vector Borne Disease Control Officer Mubassir Ahmed Sajid said that National Dengue Day was celebrated on May 16. To mark the celebration, the drive was conducted. 'We will seek cooperation from the general public to prevent the disease effectively,' he added.

Expressing concern about drug abuse and the spread of HIV in the Northeast, including Tripura, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha Tuesday said the state witnessed a steep rise of 103 per cent in drug seizures, while the destruction of seized drugs also saw an increase of 130 per cent in 2023-24. Speaking about HIV at a state-level programme titled 'Bell of Awareness' at Pragna Bhawan in Agartala on the occasion of International Youth Day, Saha said, 'At present, Tripura ranks fourth in the (Northeast) region.' Currently, the state government provides a monthly pension of Rs 2,000 to 3,433 HIV-positive individuals. Warning students about how drug addiction does not happen overnight but gradually, he said, 'You (students) must be cautious when it comes to drugs. Parents should pay special attention. Prime Minister Narendra Modi-ji and Union Home Minister Amit Shah-ji laid emphasis on building a nashamukt Bharat (drug-free India). Our government is also following a zero-tolerance policy on drugs to make Tripura nashamukt.' 'But it is not possible only with the efforts of the state government or any department. In this case, all sections of society are required to come forward to combat HIV/AIDS,' the chief minister said while urging to expand the activities of Red Ribbon Clubs in schools and colleges to combat the infection. At least 6,000 students from across the state attended the event. Saha said the state government is also thinking about spreading awareness in schools about HIV/AIDS and the dangers of drug abuse by incorporating it in the curriculum. According to the Health and Family Welfare department, Tripura reported having 1,845 people with HIV during the 2022-23 period, 1,790 people in 2023-24, and 1,185 in 2024-25 (till January this year). In January this year, Saha said that according to the National AIDS Control Organisation's (NACO) estimation report of 2023, Tripura saw 1.12 AIDS-related deaths for every 1 lakh unaffected people in 2021 – a figure that reduced to 0.99 in 2022 but again rose to 1.08 in 2023. Initiatives adopted by the state government to increase awareness about HIV include district-level sensitisation programmes involving the principals of 220 schools where drug abuse through injections was identified, an integrated health campaign in West Tripura district to identify cases of HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, syphilis in vulnerable groups, and using LED screens at 21 locations across Tripura to display messages related to HIV/AIDS and drug abuse through injections as part of a mass awareness campaign in January this year.

CDSCO notifies draft standard evaluation protocols for issuing IVD licenses
New Delhi: India's medical device regulator, CDSCO in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has issued draft standard protocols for evaluating In-Vitro Diagnostics (IVDs) devices quality and performance, to be used for issuing licenses. The protocols are meant to be followed by the country's IVD manufacturers testing labs and the regulator has sought stakeholders' comments over the notified draft by August 25. 'These protocols are now being placed in the public domain for comments from relevant stakeholders. This window of opportunity will close on 25th August 2025, and, once finalized, there will be minimal scope for change in these documents,' the notice reads. The 180-page document details the standard performance evaluation and field evaluation protocol for 15 types of IVDs including Dengue, Malaria, Influenza virus, Nipah virus, Chandipura virus, SARS-CoV-2 molecular detection differentiation assay, among several others. In Vitro Diagnostics (IVDs) are medical devices used to test samples such as blood, urine, or tissue outside the human body, to diagnose diseases, conditions, or infections, and to monitor a person's health based on predefined bio markers. Under the Medical Device Rules of 2017, 'Licensure of In-Vitro Diagnostics (IVDs) requires a detailed evaluation protocol for the performance evaluation of IVDs to evaluate their quality and performance.' The evaluation protocol helps to test the device safety, sensitivity, and accuracy, to validate the device clinical and analytical performance, required for issuing the product license, thereby allowing its usage in the country. In India the ICMR develops evaluation protocols to standardize the process of assessing the performance of diagnostic kits, particularly In Vitro Diagnostics (IVDs) and the CDSCO oversees the evaluation and enforcement of the protocols.

HC moved to stop construction of OGH at Goshamahal Stadium
Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court division bench of CJ Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice GM Mohiuddin on Tuesday heard the plea filed by local yoga trainer Gundolu Ramu seeking to stop the government transferring the Goshamahal stadium along with other land to the Health department for construction of Osmania Hospital complex. Ramu wants GO 45 issued by the department, dated January 30,2025, set aside as illegal and unconstitutional, contrary to the zonal regulations of the master plan-2031 and provisions of Telangana Urban Areas (Development) Act,1975. Advocate-General A Sudarshan Reddy requested the court for a week to file a detailed counter-affidavit. Hearing in the case was adjourned to September 26.
