Transport departments warn against unauthorised use of vehicle beacons in Odisha
The direction came following allegations regarding use of single coloured red, amber light and multi-coloured flickering lights by field functionaries, who are not authorised to use them.
Principal secretary of the Commerce and Transport department Usha Padhee said, 'There have been restrictions on use of single colour amber/red light as per the provision U/R 108 (4) of Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989, relating to use of multi-coloured flickering light.'
So far, the Transport Commissioner's office, authorised to issue permission, has not received any request from any department for grant of permission to use such lights on the official vehicles.
'In case the vehicles are used for the purposes as specified in the guidelines of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, then they should use the multi-coloured light with due permission in the shape of a sticker from the Transport Commissioner,' the letter to the departments stated.

Jharkhand HC orders ban on pressure horns, flag rods in vehicles
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Ranchi, Jul 30 (PTI) The Jharkhand High Court has ordered the government to ensure that vehicles fitted with pressure horns, multi-tone horns, flag rods and extra lights do not ply within the state. A division bench, in its order, imposed a complete ban on the use of pressure horns and flag rods. 'Pressure horns and multi-tone horns fitted in vehicles will not be allowed to run in the state of Jharkhand," it said. Similarly, vehicles fitted with extra lights, particularly those that are red and blue in colour and give a semblance of emergency vehicles, should be removed immediately, the bench said. It also ordered the administration to ensure that unauthorised use of flag rods and flags irrespective of their affiliation to political parties and religious denominations be removed forthwith. The court ordered that provisions of the Flag Code have to be duly followed, and the statute of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules and Noise Pollution Regulation and Control Rules be followed in letter and spirit. A division bench of Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan and Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, while hearing a public interest litigation on July 28, had ordered the Director General of Police Anurag Gupta and Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board member secretary to file individual affidavits to confirm compliance with the direction of the court. The affidavits of the DGP and the member secretary will have to be filed before the next date of hearing on August 11. 3 Arrested For Stealing Money From Delhi's Businessman House
Balasore: Delhi Police arrested a man from Odisha's Balasore district who, along with his two associates, had stolen over Rs 1 crore from the house of a businessman in the national capital, an officer said on Monday. Delhi Police, with the help of Odisha Police, arrested Kashinath Mallick (30) from Bhimei Gaon under Iswarpur police outpost in Nilagiri area of Balasore district on Sunday and recovered Rs 20 lakh, the officer said. Mallick used to work as a cook in the house of the businessman. His two other associates used to work as domestic help, and separately, they had stolen Rs 1.10 crore from the businessman's house and had fled Delhi recently. While Mallick was arrested from his house in Balasore district, the other two, identified as Ashutosh Mallick (27) and Jagabandhu Mallick (30), were arrested from Delhi railway station and Patna Bus stand, respectively. The police had recovered Rs 45 lakh of the looted money from them. Kashinath was the mastermind of this loot.
