NHL Insider Predicts Sidney Crosby Trade After 2026 Olympics
NHL insider Nick Kypreos believes Sidney Crosby's time with the Pittsburgh Penguins may come to an end next season.

The Penguins, who have missed the postseason for three consecutive seasons, should be headed toward a rebuild.
That doesn't seem to be the front office's mindset as the franchise has made clear that Pittsburgh won't entertain trades for Sidney Crosby or any of their other core veterans, trying instead to contend while they remain active.
Appearing on Sportsnet 590 The Fan with fellow analysts Justin Bourne and Sam MacKee on Thursday, Kypreos suggested the Penguins could trade their 37-year-old longtime captain after the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
Kypreos went as far as predicting Crosby's landing spot.

'Wait till they get Sid Crosby after the Olympics,' Kypreos said, referring to the Montreal Canadiens. "I'm liking the odds a little better than I did maybe a few weeks ago."
Kypreos pointed to the Penguins' declining trajectory — three consecutive regular seasons in which their point total has decreased — and aging core, including Evgeni Malkin turning 39 at the end of July and entering what may be his final season.
'(Crosby) is too good right now to just be a babysitter for the next three years,' Kypreos said. 'This guy can play peak (hockey)."
"It will be such a disservice to the history of our game if we watch him stay in Pittsburgh the next three or four years.'

Kypreos, however, didn't provide direct evidence of any trade talks between the Penguins and any franchise, let alone the Canadiens, but made cryptic comments about Pittsburgh's internal situation.
'I don't know what's going on in Pitt, but something's going on in Pitt," Kypreos said. "Things are going on, things are going on …'
In case an agreement for a trade is reached with one of the other 31 NHL franchises, it's fair to assume the Penguins would demand multiple assets in return for Crosby, most likely at least one first-round pick and other future picks and young players.

Packers Blockbuster Trade Proposal Lands $31 Million Pass Rusher
Packers Blockbuster Trade Proposal Lands $31 Million Pass Rusher originally appeared on Athlon Sports. With less than three weeks until training camp begins, General Manager Brian Gutekunst still has time to make a few final additions before the Green Bay Packers resume team activities. Still, that should not stop him from seeking upgrades during the preseason if the right opportunity comes along. Advertisement If the Packers were to make any additional acquisitions, they would most likely come on the defensive side of the ball. The team did a solid job this offseason of surrounding quarterback Jordan Love with more talent—both in the receiving corps and along the offensive line. However, on defense, there is still a noticeable void: the Packers lack a true No. 1 cornerback and are missing a superstar-caliber pass rusher to anchor the defensive line. Green Bay is betting on internal growth, trusting that Jeff Hafley and DeMarcus Covington can elevate the defense through development. Still, it would not hurt to explore a few additional options—whether on the free-agent market or via potential trades with other NFL teams. With that in mind, AtoZ Sports writer Wendell Ferreira, along with Colts beat writer Destin Adams and Saints beat reporter Adam Holt, proposed a blockbuster three-team trade involving the Packers, Giants, and Raiders. New York Giants linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux (5) warms up before a game against the Minnesota Vikings at MetLife Stadium.© John Jones-Imagn Images The proposed trade terms are as follows: Advertisement Packers receive: Edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux Raiders receive: Wide receiver Romeo Doubs Giants receive: Tight end Michael Mayer and a 4th-round pick from Green Bay Wendell then explained why the trade makes sense for Green Bay, highlighting that Kayvon Thibodeaux's profile aligns well with the type of player Brian Gutekunst typically targets. "The Packers didn't invest much in the edge defender position this offseason, despite underwhelming production from the group in 2024. Even though general manager Brian Gutekunst is not exactly aggressive in the trade market, Kayvon Thibodeaux is the type of player he would consider," Wendell wrote. "The edge rusher is young, plays at a premium position, is a former top-5 pick, and has a track record of solid production in the NFL. The Packers would absorb $4.978 million in 2025 and $14.751 million in 2026, which is an excellent value." Wendell also pointed out Romeo Doubs' contract situation, noting that it could influence Green Bay's decision to include him in a trade package. "Parting ways with Romeo Doubs might not be an easy decision, but he's entering the final year of his rookie deal, the Packers haven't wanted to give him an early extension, and his ceiling is limited," he wrote. "To make things fair, Green Bay would also send the Giants a fourth-round pick, but that's still a great net value to the roster." Advertisement Kayvon Thibodeaux recorded 21 sacks and 121 pressures in his first three seasons with the Giants. In 2024, New York traded for Brian Burns and then selected Abdul Carter third overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. While Thibodeaux should still see some playing time in New York, the significant investments in Burns and Carter—both projected starters—could create a scenario where Thibodeaux becomes available for trade. Red Wings forward announces shock NHL retirement at age 28
A hard-working forward who played a long time for the Arizona Coyotes before joining the Detroit Red Wings, along with a one-game Columbus Blue Jackets cameo, has called it quits on his NHL career. And he's done it quite early, at age 28. Advertisement Christian Fischer revealed to The Athletic's Max Bultman that he has chosen to retire rather than seek a new contract in unrestricted free agency. "Over the last couple years, I think I just look at my life and what makes me happy, and being around family and kind of my life in Scottsdale," Fischer told The Athletic. "... In the end, I'm very thankful for the career I had, but just personally I think I know it's time for a new chapter in my life." Fischer played 46 games as a fourth-line forward in 2024-25, with 45 of those games for Detroit. Fischer closes his NHL career having played in 523 games, scoring 62 goals and dishing out 75 assists. He also had 978 hits in his career. Fischer entered the NHL as a second-round pick by the Coyotes in 2015, and he lasted a decade in pro hockey. "If you told me that when I was 10 years old, 'You're going to play 500 games in the NHL,' I would be the happiest kid you've ever seen," Fischer told The Athletic. MORE NHL NEWS:
