Kolkata, Jul 21 (PTI) Nanovace Technologies Ltd, a subsidiary of PCBL Chemical Ltd, on Monday said it has secured a patent from the US for its proprietary method of developing nanomaterials targeted at next-generation energy storage technologies.
Nanovace is currently constructing a pilot plant at PCBL's Palej site in Gujarat, expected to be ready by the third quarter of FY'26, to demonstrate the industrial scalability of the patented technology.
PCBL Chemical holds a 51 per cent stake in Nanovace Technologies, while the remaining 49 per cent is owned by Kindia Private Ltd.
The joint venture focuses on developing nanosilicon materials for use in lithium-ion battery anodes.
PCBL, in the past, said it was planning to invest USD 44 million in Nanovace, aimed at acquiring intellectual property, establishing the pilot plant, and subsequently setting up a commercial-scale manufacturing facility. PTI BSM BDC

Male/New Delhi, July 25 (UNI) Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu today affirmed the enduring strength of Maldives-India relations, stating that the historic bond between both nations cannot be weakened. He made the remakes at a state banquet hosted by himself and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed in honour of Indian Prime Minister Modi, who is on a two-day state visit to the Maldives at the President's invitation. In his speech, the President said that while this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of official diplomatic relations between the Maldives and India, the relationship dates back centuries. While history bears witness to this, he noted that both countries have deep-rooted ties through trade and other cultural activities since long before official diplomatic relations were established. The President emphasised that India has always been an important partner in the Maldives' development journey, and noted that the relationship is strengthening, particularly in the fields of security, health, trade and education. He expressed confidence that India can play an important role in building a sustainable, inclusive and youth-driven economy in the Maldives. Discussions also reflected the durability of bilateral relations, as President Muizzu commended India's longstanding assistance, including its timely response during disasters and emergencies, which reinforced the partnership's humanitarian and strategic significance. Developmental projects featured prominently in the discussions, with President Muizzu highlighting the India-assisted Malé-Thilafushi bridge as a cornerstone of cooperative infrastructure and a forthcoming symbol of shared progress. Other initiatives noted included the construction of 3,300 housing units, extensive roadworks in Addu City, and the provision of 72 heavy vehicles to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF). IRCTC received 6,645 complaints related to food quality in 2024-25: Government
In 2024-25, 6,645 complaints related to poor quality of food were reported by passengers, out of which in 1,341 cases fines were imposed on the food suppliers, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Friday. According to the data, in 2023-24, 2022-23, and 2021-22, the number of complaints received from passengers was 7,026, 4,421, and 1,082, respectively.(PTI/Representative) Of the total, in 2,995 cases warnings were issued, in 1,547 cases suitable advisories were given and other measures were taken in the remaining 762 cases, Vaishnaw said in the reply. CPI(M) MP John Brittas raised the issues of food quality in trains and transparency in the award of contracts to companies. When asked to provide details regarding instances of seizure of unhygienic food items from the railway caterers as well as complaints filed by passengers regarding the quality and safety of food served on trains in the last five years, the Railway Minister presented the data in a tabular form. Vaishnaw said, "Prompt and appropriate punitive action, including imposition of fines, disciplinary action, counselling, warning etc., is taken in case any instance of adulterated/unhygienic food or passenger complaint is reported." According to the data, in 2023-24, 2022-23, and 2021-22, the number of complaints received from passengers was 7,026, 4,421, and 1,082, respectively. Brittas asked "whether Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) awarded contracts across multiple railway routes, including Vande Bharat and other long-distance services, to a corporate group using multiple affiliate entities." In his reply, the Union minister said that the IRCTC regularly floats tenders to select service providers for the provision of onboard catering services in trains, including Vande Bharat and other long-distance trains. "These tenders are awarded through a transparent process to the highest bidders as per the terms and conditions stipulated in the tender documents. The details of Letters of Award (LOA), issued to multiple service providers, are published on the website of IRCTC. At present, contracts of clusters of trains have been awarded by IRCTC to 20 entities," Vaishnaw said. He provided various measures taken to maintain food quality, such as the supply of meals from designated Base Kitchens, commissioning of modern Base Kitchens at identified locations, Installation of CCTV Cameras in Base Kitchens, shortlisting and use of popular and branded raw materials, deployment of Food Safety Supervisors at Base Kitchens to monitor food safety and hygienic practices among others.

'India is also proud to be the most trusted friend of the Maldives. Be it a disaster or a pandemic, India has always stood by as a 'first responder',' he welcomed the progress made under the economic and maritime security vision unveiled during Muizzu's visit to New Delhi in October last year. 'Now it is becoming a reality. And as a result of that, our relations are touching new heights,' PM Prime Minister also noted the growing success of India's UPI (Unified Payments Interface) system in the Maldives. 'The speed with which UPI is being promoted in the Maldives will give a boost to both tourism and retail,' he Modi arrived in Male from London in the second and final leg of his two-nation tour.
