Fadillah: Malaysia, Turkiye to strengthen energy sector cooperation
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also energy transition and water transformation minister, said this would pave the way for cooperation between high-level officials and policymakers from both countries.
He said this was among the matters discussed during his meeting with Turkiye's Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar in Ankara on Tuesday.
"We are working to upgrade this letter of intent into an MoU," he told Bernama late Tuesday night.
Also present at the meeting were Malaysian ambassador to Turkiye Sazali Mustafa Kamal, Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry deputy secretary-general (energy) Mareena Mahpudz, and Tenaga Nasional Bhd chief of new energy Mohd Zarihi Mohd Hashim.
The exchange of the letter of intent was formalised during Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's Feb 10-11 official visit to Malaysia.
"The third point involves regulations and energy trading practices currently being implemented in Europe, and how they manage power trading or power generation.
"The fourth is from a regulatory perspective, regarding the management of energy export and import, including expertise in grid systems, distribution, and so on," he added.
Fadillah is in Turkiye for a two-day official working visit which started yesterday.
He will lead the Malaysian delegation to London's April 24-25 Future of Energy Security Summit, organised by the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the United Kingdom government.
According to the ministry, Fadillah's attendance underscores Malaysia's commitment, role, and achievements in addressing various energy-related issues, especially energy security and energy transition.

SST Maintained Due To Broad Industry Understanding
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- The government is of the view that revenue collection under consumption tax through the Sales and Service Tax (SST) should be continued and can be further improved, as it is an existing tax that is already understood by the industry, traders, and the public. The Ministry of Finance (MoF) said SST can still be enhanced to generate additional revenue and provide a faster fiscal impact for the government, as it has been in use for over 40 years. 'This is in contrast to reintroducing the Goods and Services Tax (GST), which would require a longer preparation period of up to two years to allow companies time to prepare and update their systems for GST implementation,' it said.

'I also shared the Federal Territories' role as a pioneer of the CHASE City concept under Malaysia MADANI and extended an invitation for Jakarta to join this journey,' she said. Additionally, she said the discussion touched on opportunities for cooperation in the digital economy, such as a cashless society, as well as empowering youth and women through flexible work infrastructure, including cloud kitchen initiatives currently being implemented in the Federal Territories. Dr Zaliha also invited Indonesia to join the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 celebration to strengthen ties between the people of both countries and reinforce the network of ASEAN cities towards an inclusive, sustainable, and prosperous shared future.

Proton to integrate RFID technology into X50
SUBANG JAYA: Proton and Touch 'n Go Sdn Bhd have announced a strategic partnership to integrate Touch 'n Go RFID technology into the all-new Proton X50. This collaboration, formalised through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), marks a significant milestone in advancing Malaysia's connected mobility ecosystem. Under the agreement, every new Proton X50 will be pre-fitted with a Touch 'n Go RFID tag at the production line, enabling seamless access to Malaysia's extensive RFID-enabled highway network. Signatories for the MoU were Touch 'n Go CEO Praba Sangarajoo, and Proton Edar deputy CEO Zhang Qiang, while the witnesses were Touch 'n Go sales director, Jarrod Wong, and Proton Edar sales head Ong Chee Wooi. 'It's about instant gratification. You drive your new Proton X50 off the showroom floor with RFID already installed – just like that. This is not just about smarter mobility; it's about bringing real value and delight into everyday journeys, said Praba. As two proud homegrown Malaysian companies, he added this partnership is a celebration of what's possible when local champions work together. Launched on July 24 to strong market acceptance, the all-new Proton X50 has achieved instant success with 2,000 units delivered to customers just three weeks after its official unveiling. Combining a new exterior and interior design with the latest connectivity technologies and a powerful new 1.5-litre i-GT turbocharged engine, the B-segment SUV sales market leader is the first Proton vehicle to be equipped with Touch 'n Go's RFID tag as standard fit for all variants. 'The Proton X50 has been Proton's star product for our SUV range and today, over 140,000 units have rolled off the production line at Tanjong Malim. 'With the launch of the all-new Proton X50, we have taken a quantum leap forward to improve the purchase value for customers by offering a new design and new technologies while keeping the price unchanged. 'By partnering with Touch 'n Go, Proton is adding another new feature that fits perfectly with the model tagline of Intelligence That Amazes,' said Zhang. With other launches in their pipeline, he added Proton is looking to extend the fitment of Touch 'n Go RFID tags to other models to offer an improved level of convenience to their customers. 'Our aim is to improve the level of customer satisfaction, and we think this is one of the steps we can consider towards achieving that goal,' said Zhang.
