Jeff Bezos & Lauren Sánchez Borrowed This Reception Detail From Kate Middleton's Wedding
Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez already have a week of marriage under their belt, but people are still discussing the details of their three-day Venice, Italy extravaganza. It seems that they borrowed a particular detail from Kate Middleton's 2011 wedding to Prince William. The Prince and Princess of Wales' royal wedding over 14 years ago is still considered a timeless classic — from Kate's elegant dress from designer Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen to the couple's romantic balcony kiss. It's understandable why celebrities might try to borrow elements from the royals' big day, but Bezos and Sánchez went in a different direction and took a detail from Kate and William's reception. More from SheKnows While Mel B Walked Down the Aisle, Victoria Beckham Quietly Reminded Us Who's the Queen of Weddings Just like the Prince and Princess of Wales, the Amazon founder and his bride had British singer Ellie Goulding play at their reception on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice, per People. Kate and William's first dance was to Goulding's cover of Elton John's hit single, 'Your Song,' and the 38-year-old singer made sure to sing it for Bezos and Sánchez too. The only difference is that the billionaire couple had Andrea Bocelli's son, Matteo Bocelli, sing his version of Elvis Presley's 'Can't Help Falling in Love' for their first dance. Goulding hasn't spoken publicly about the June 27 reception, but she did share her thoughts with the Daily Mail in 2012 about the royal wedding. 'Performing the first dance of the night, 'Your Song' was nerve-wracking,' she admitted. 'But William and Kate were very appreciative. They are an awesome couple and told me how much they enjoyed it. My band and I stayed at the reception all night, and it's something I'll treasure forever.' Still, Goulding revealed to Vogue Australia in 2016 that her nerves got the best of her. 'I mean, talking about scary… I was so nervous that my hands were shaking like this [she shakes her hands]. That was one of my memories, I remember looking down and just seeing this,' she recalled. 'Chris, my pianist, I looked over at him and he looks at me like, 'Literally, you have just sh—ed yourself. I know it in your face that you've just literally pooed yourself.'' Yet years later, it was still a true pinch-me moment for Goulding. 'I thought I was a decoy for someone else,' Goulding joked. 'I thought it could happen. Because at the time, Gaga was everywhere and rightly so, she was killing it. And Beyoncé and Jay-Z and then… me.' Michael Douglas Says America Is ‘Flirting With Autocracy' as People Go Into Politics for Money
The United States is 'flirting with autocracy,' Michael Douglas said at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival on Saturday. The actor, who was in attendance to present a screening of the recently restored 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest,' also said 'people are going into politics now to make money, and we maintain an idealism in the U.S. which does not exist now.' American politics were introduced as a talking point at the Czech Republic event after an unidentified journalist told Douglas the 1975 film is, in part, about rebellion before asking a question about Donald Trump, per The Hollywood Reporter. 'I think our president's name has been mentioned enough over the short time that he's been president,' the star responded. I think it reminds us that we all need to make our efforts. It's not the job of somebody else.' Douglas also lamented the relationship between money and the political sphere. 'The disappointing thing is that politics now seems to be for profit. Money has entered democracy, not just in our country, but in others, as a way of a profit center,' he said. 'People are going into politics now to make money, and we maintain an idealism in the U.S. which does not exist now.' 'I find myself worried, I'm nervous, and I just think it's all of our responsibility, not for somebody else to look out for us, but for us to look out for ourselves,' he continued. The actor, who significantly slowed down his career in 2022, also told reporters he has 'no real intention' of returning to the large or small screen. 'I have no real intention of going back. I say I'm not retired, because [if] something special came up, I'd go back. But otherwise, I'm quite happy to watch my wife work,' he shared.
