Director Ram Gopal Varma appears before Ongole police in social media case
Ongole Rural CI N Srikanth Babu summoned Varma as part of an investigation into allegations that he portrayed Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM and JSP chief Pawan Kalyan, and Minister N Lokesh in objectionable postures using photo morphing during the promotion of Vyooham. TDP leader M Ramalingam lodged the complaint at Maddipadu police station.
Varma first appeared for questioning in early February. He had earlier approached the HC seeking anticipatory bail, which granted him protection from arrest but directed him to cooperate with the probe.
On Tuesday, Varma arrived with his advocate at 11.10 am. The questioning continued until late evening, with intervals. Sources said police seized a mobile phone from his possession. Investigation officers questioned him on his motives behind creating the morphed images. 'The inquiry is still ongoing, and we have seized one device from his possession. For most questions, he is giving non-committal or 'I don't know' responses, which is delaying the process,' a source said.

NEET domicile issue: Andhra Pradesh HC dismisses ‘non-local' students' pleas
Vijayawada: The high court on Thursday dismissed the petitions filed by students who were not considered 'local' candidates in medical admissions for not having four years of contiguous education prior to the qualifying examination. The court stated that according to Presidential rules issued in 1974, a candidate who studied in an area for four continuous years prior to the date of the qualifying exam is only considered a local area candidate. Hence, the petitioners cannot be considered domiciles of Andhra Pradesh, it said. Over 70 petitions were filed by students who qualified in NEET and aspired for medical admission in Andhra Pradesh after their applications were not accepted under local category. They were considered 'non-locals' as they studied intermediate outside the state. The govt informed the high court that Presidential orders clearly define who is to be considered as local candidate, and the same is being followed. Considering the govt's submissions, the HC bench headed by Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Justice R Raghunandan Rao dismissed the petitions. Detention of conservancy workers condemned
The Thamizh Desiya Periyakkam has condemned the Tamil Nadu police for 'using force' to quell the democratic protest of the conservancy workers of the Greater Chennai Corporation on Wednesday night. In a statement of August 14, TDP general secretary K. Venkatraman termed the police action against the participants of the 'peaceful demonstration' and subsequent arrests citing an High Court Order as an act of curbing the democratic rights of the people. The DMK government, which often claims that it 'opposes the BJP's privatisation,' has done the same at the GCC, where it has handed over the civic body's responsibility for garbage disposal to an Andhra Pradesh-based private company through a ₹2,700 crore tender, he said. Stating that the arrested conservancy workers and their supporters were being released only after the condemnation by the High Court, TDP general secretary exhorted the DMK government to ensure that all the arrested workers and their supporters were released and the legal action initiated against them withdrawn. He urged the State government to fulfil the demands of the workforce without fail.

Claims case related capsize of Elas 3: Kerala HC orders arrest of one more ship
Kochi: High court on Thursday ordered the arrest of the vessel MV MSC Makoto II, owned by the Mediterranean Shipping Company, in admiralty suits filed by seven more fishing boat owners seeking compensation of Rs 2.79 crore for losses allegedly caused by the sinking of the ship MSC Elsa 3 off the Kerala coast. Justice S Eswaran directed the Vizhinjam port authorities to execute the warrant and effect the arrest, seizure and detention of the vessel sailing under the flag of Panama, until Rs 2.79 crore is deposited towards the petitioners' claims. HC further clarified that the vessel may be released from arrest, without any further order, if the shipping company produces a demand draft for the claim amount before the high court registry.
