Sparks bring back familiar face to boost playoff push
WNBA vet Latricia Trammell returns to Sparks in new coaching role
Trammell previously worked with the Sparks from 2019 to 2022 as a defensive assistant. During that stretch, she helped shape one of the league's stingiest defenses, playing a key role in Candace Parker winning Defensive Player of the Year in 2020. Nneka Ogwumike and Brittney Sykes also earned All-Defensive First Team selections under her guidance, while Sykes added two Second Team honors.

Now, after a two-year stint as head coach of the Dallas Wings, Trammell rejoins a franchise she's already helped build.
'I'm truly thankful to return to the Sparks,' Trammell said. 'This organization means a lot to me. I believe in its vision, and I'm excited to help this team compete at the highest level.'
Before her time in Los Angeles and Dallas, Trammell began her WNBA journey in San Antonio, where she coached players like Dearica Hamby and Kelsey Plum. Her coaching resume also includes a long career at the high school and college levels from 1994 to 2017.
Head Coach Lynne Roberts praised the hire, noting that Trammell brings both knowledge and leadership to the staff.
'We're thrilled to welcome LT to the coaching team,' Roberts said. 'Her experience and basketball mind are a major asset as we gear up for a playoff run.'
Trammell's return is the latest in a series of moves by the Sparks to strengthen their coaching unit. Earlier this year, the team added Mike Neighbors, Sed Everett, Nikki Blue, and Zak Buncik, reinforcing their focus on staff depth as the season progresses.

SEATTLE -- Dearica Hamby's layup with 4.3 seconds left gave the Los Angeles Sparks a 108-106 win over the Seattle Storm on Friday night in the first double-overtime game in the WNBA this season. Hamby put up a contested shot but Skylar Diggins' similar shot on the other end fell off the rim as time expired. Rickea Jackson had 27 points to lead the Sparks (12-15), who have won six of seven. Kelsey Plum added 22 points and seven assists, while Hamby and Azura Stevens both had 21. Hamby also had 13 rebounds. Cameron Brink had seven points, four rebounds, three blocks, two steals and five fouls in 12 minutes in her second game back after ACL surgery last season. Nneka Ogwumike scored 37 points, one shy of her career high when she played with the Sparks nine years ago, and grabbed 12 rebounds for Seattle (16-12). She became the sixth player to reach 7,000 points for her career. Diggins had 18 points, Erica Wheeler 15 and Gabby Williams 14 points and eight assists. Ezi Magbegor had nine points, 11 rebounds and five blocks. There were 14 ties and 12 lead changes. Plum's three-point play following her 3-pointer gave the Sparks a 69-68 lead, their first since ending the first quarter up 18-16. in the second overtime. Diggins tied the game at 99 with 18 seconds left in the first extra session before Plum missed at the buzzer. Jackson tied the game at 86 with 4.3 seconds left in regulation and Wheeler missed a contest 3 at the buzzer.

Yankees' trade deadline additions implode in loss to Marlins: Highlights
The New York Yankees blew multiple leads before losing to the Miami Marlins 13-12 at LoanDepot Park on Friday night. While the Yankees outhit the Marlins 15-12, Miami did enough to come out on top with a win that featured a six-run seventh inning. New York blew leads of 6-0, 9-4 and 12-10. The Yankees' bullpen struggled, including three new pitchers acquired before the trade deadline on Thursday. Jake Bird, David Bednar and Camilo Doval all made their debut for New York on Friday. Their outings were not what fans were hoping for. The three pitchers were brought in by New York in an attempt to overhaul the bullpen. Bird allowed three hits, including a home run, and four earned runs in just 0.1 inning of work. He entered the game with the Yankees leading 9-4 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. With the score at 9-8 Yankees, Bednar was brought into the game in place of Bird. Bednar pitched 1.2 innings, allowing four hits, including one home run, and two earned runs to surrender the lead. He did manage to get the Yankees through the eighth inning without giving up another run. Doval replaced Bednar to start the ninth inning with the Yankees leading 12-10. He allowed two hits and three runs (one earned) in 0.1 innings to take the loss. It wasn't entirely on Doval, though — he was undone in part by a horrible error by another new addition, Jose Caballero. Playing his first game with the Yankees, Caballero misplayed a ground ball hit to right field. With the ball rolling nearly to the warning track, the game-tying runs were able to score and the winning run was suddenly set up on third. Four pitches later, the Yankees' collapse was complete thanks to a dribbler that didn't even make it to the infield grass. YES Network broadcaster Michael Kay called it the Yankees' "worst loss of the year."
