Air Canada sparks wild debate with its VERY progressive Pride month ad
Air Canada made a high-flying bid to kick off Pride Month on Monday and found itself in a social media firestorm.
The airline was met with overwhelming backlash after launching what it proudly touted as its first-ever 'all-2SLGBTQIA+ flight.'
They were forced to shut off replies on the celebratory post on X within hours.
The airline shared a glossy, 90-second video across its platforms, featuring employees from pilots and engineers to ground staff and cabin crew who identify across the 2SLGBTQIA+ spectrum - Two-Spirit (2S), Lesbian (L), Gay (G), Bisexual (B), Transgender (T), Queer or Questioning (Q), Intersex (I), Asexual (A).
Each shared heartfelt reflections on what the historic flight meant to them.
'Our first all-2SLGBTQIA+ flight was a heartfelt celebration reflecting our unwavering commitment to inclusivity and equality, in the air and on the ground,' Air Canada posted on X.
But what began as a polished attempt to champion inclusivity quickly unraveled.
The comment section turned hostile almost immediately, flooded with negative responses that overwhelmed the likes and shares.
Despite the airline's initial enthusiasm, by midday the replies were disabled, a rare and telling move signaling that Air Canada's Pride celebration had gone anything but smoothly.

In the video, Captain Maciej, who commands one of the airlines the Airbus A319's, candidly acknowledged the complexity of the moment.
'It was a bit of a range of emotions this morning coming here and getting dressed for this flight,' he said, before carefully reciting the lengthening acronym.
'Now let me get that one straight — a few letters have been added — 2SLGBTQIA+. I do identify with the progress flag. There's something in there that represents me as well, so there's a bit of joy having the opportunity to do this flight today.'
Alongside him, First Officer Juan, speaking in French, called it 'a really special moment' that signaled visibility and tolerance.
'It has to do with visibility, with the possibility of telling everyone that we truly feel welcome and accepted for who we are.'
Ground staff and engineers chimed in too, including one employee who said they joined the crew in honor of their daughter, a member of the LGBTQIA+ community.
The mood among the passengers seemed more muted who were only informed of the 'specialness' of the country's first all-2SLGBTQIA+ flight by gate agents Danny and Michael.
Once onboard, Captain Maciej took to the intercom to frame the flight as a 'watershed moment in Canadian history,' ending his address with a cheeky reference from RuPaul's Drag Race: 'Shantay, you all stay!'

Yet the celebration quickly turned into a public relations debacle.
While the airline attempted to showcase diversity, critics on social media hammered Air Canada for what they deemed to be tone-deaf virtue signaling.
'This is absolutely ridiculous — all we need and care about is competent employees, regardless of what they're doing in their bedrooms. Get a grip,' one commenter wrote bluntly.
'Why would we care who sleeps with whom? At this point in history, is this really necessary?' another user fumed.
'I'm sorry, but the safety and well-being of your passengers seems to come second place to virtue signaling,' another critic added. 'It will be a cold day in hell before I fly Air Canada.'
The reaction revealed a deeper discontent simmering among the public and a backlash not just against this particular initiative, but against broader efforts to weave identity politics into commercial life.
Many commenters expressed frustration that sexual identity, rather than professional competency, was being showcased.

Six years ago Air Canada removed 'ladies and gentlemen' from its on-board announcements, replacing them with the more gender-neutral 'hello everyone' or 'tout le monde' in French.
At the time, the airline said was meant to 'modernize' and 'remove specific references to gender' and defended the shift as part of an effort to make all passengers and employees feel respected.
But Monday's reaction suggests that many customers remain unconvinced that such changes are necessary, or welcome.

New Dallas police chief's three-word warning to migrants who still think it's a sanctuary city
The new Dallas police chief Daniel Comeaux issued a blunt three-word warning to illegal immigrants as its 'sanctuary city' status came to an abrupt end. Comeaux delivered a clear message as he took the Texas city's top police job this week, telling potential migrants: 'You're not welcome.' 'Pick another city, don't come to Dallas,' he added. The lawman was named as the city's new police chief in April following a 33-year career including time as a DEA special agent. He beat out interim chief Michael Igo to the top job, after Igo was slammed by Texas officials for allegedly failing to follow President Trump's immigration crackdown. Comeaux issued the message days after Homeland Security didn't include Dallas on its list of jurisdictions that it recognizes as 'sanctuary cities.' A sanctuary city is seen as one that refuses to cooperate with federal immigration laws, and provides legal protections for illegal aliens to stop them being deported. Dallas was previously seen as a haven for illegal migrants in the red state, however the Trump administration has threatened to pull federal funding from cities that refuse to comply with his orders. 'President Trump and (DHS) Secretary Noem have been clear: sanctuary jurisdictions should immediately cease violation of Federal law and cooperate with law enforcement,' a DHS spokesperson told KXAN as Dallas dropped off the list. The shift in Dallas comes as sanctuary city policies were effectively outlawed in Texas in 2017 as the state legislature prohibited any interference with state or federal immigration enforcement. Earlier this year, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton opened an investigation into Dallas and the city's police department over possible non-compliance with the Trump administration's immigration policies. Paxton named Igo in an open letter released at the time, accusing the former interim Dallas police chief of telling his police department not to assist in detaining illegal immigrants. 'The law is not optional,' Paxton said at the time. 'Local governments do not have the authority to disregard state and federal immigration laws. 'The people of Texas expect law enforcement agencies to uphold public safety, not to implement sanctuary policies that put our communities at risk.' Igo said at the time that his department would not stop anyone for the sole reason of checking their immigration status, but denied refusing to work with federal law enforcement, per KERA News. It comes as Trump stepped up his deportations targets this week by telling immigration officials to conduct 3,000 arrests every day in an ambitious effort to ramp up his deportation agenda. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller said the new goal is only temporary and the number of daily arrests expected under the Trump administration will continue to rise. 'Under President Trump's leadership, we are looking to set a goal of a minimum of 3,000 arrests for ICE every day,' Miller told Fox News' Sean Hannity. Trump's border czar Tom Homan backed the ambitious new benchmark on Thursday morning, insisting: ' We've gotta increase these arrests and removals.' 'The numbers are good, but I'm not satisfied. I haven't been satisfied all year long.' During Trump's first 100 days back in office, ICE officials arrested 66,463 illegal immigrants. More than 65,000 illegal immigrants were deported.

Democrats roast ex-Biden press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre's 'laughable' attempt to exit her own party
Stunned Democratic operatives retreated into group chats to vent at Karine Jean-Pierre 's shock decision to snag a book deal with apparent plans to torch those who sought to push Biden to end his reelection bid. The stunning announcement by Jean-Pierre's publisher about her forthcoming tome, Independent, resurfaced complaints about her own capabilities and officials who insulated the former president from criticism that could have helped right the ship. 'I laughed reading her book announcement that claims she 'presents clear arguments and provocative evidence' when our party failed to make a compelling argument for Democrats with her as one of our most visible messenger for three years,' one steaming former Biden administration official told 'She lost whatever media cachet she had after the White House, and The View isn't taking her call anymore so she has to resort to a selfish stunt to sell books and get any attention,' said the former official. That last comment was a reference to Jean-Pierre's decision to go on ABC's 'The View' while serving as Biden's White House press secretary, in a move some took as a bid to line up a post-White House gig for herself on the program. Another Democrat, former Commerce Department spokeswoman Caitlin Legacki told Politico: 'The only reason we stand a chance to reduce the harm inflicted is the Democratic Party did the right thing here. It's completely nuts to be more upset that the Party didn't prioritize Joe Biden's ego and keep him on the ticket than to thank god we averted complete and total disaster.' Many of those urging Biden to get out after his debate disaster argued it was the only way to avoid an electoral wipeout. As it turned out, Vice President Kamala Harris stepped in at the 11th Hour and lost to Donald Trump anyway. Most surprising to many is that Jean-Pierre announced she is leaving the Democratic Party, after a long career as an operative, at a time when Democrats are soul-searching to try to find a way to combat Donald Trump. Her new book, titled Independent, has a cover featuring shattered glass, and a PR release describes its substance as 'a look inside a broken White House, outside the party lines.' Her publisher Hachette describes an 'urgent, timely analysis' and urges Americans to 'vote their values and maintain individuality within party lines.' One operative called it 'the most grift-y thing I've seen in a long time, and that's saying something in Washington.' 'A lot of group chats were revived today,' posted former White House official Symone Sanders-Townsend, a former advisor to VP Kamala Harris, on X, adding a smiling / crying emoji. 'Counting 13 on my end,' chimed in former Biden State Department spokesman Vedant Patel. 'Lol,' wrote former White House assistant press secretary Jeremy Edwads, reposting an article about Jean-Pierre penning the book and leaving the party. Former officials contacted by said they didn't know what kind of advance Jean-Pierre was coming in, after failing to land a high-profile TV gig as did her predecessor Jen Psaki, now an MSNBC host. 'Probably best to purge the party of our most delusional and self-serving personalities,' the former official added. The slack-jawed responses came after news broke that Jean-Pierre, who spent years defending Biden from the White House podium on both substance and questions about his age, health, and mental fitness was writing the book. It comes as her former boss has been hit by a round of tough press coverage with the release of Axios reporter Alex Thompson and CNN anchor Jake Tapper's new book, 'Original Sin,' which rakes the Biden White House for covering up signs of his decline. 'In a country obsessed with blind loyalty to a two-party democratic system, Karine Jean-Pierre, former White House press secretary to the Biden-Harris administration, shares why Americans must step beyond party lines to embrace life as Independents,' according to an online release for the book. 'Jean-Pierre didn't come to her decision to be an Independent lightly,' it says – indicating she has leaving the party, after working in the Biden administration. She worked as a political director for Obama. She also worked for liberal outside group MoveOn. Jean-Pierre didn't immediately respond to a request for comment on her new project. The write-up for her forthcoming book indicates she'll take on people within the party who tried to force Biden to end his reelection campaign after his debate disaster. 'She takes us through the three weeks that led to Biden's abandoning his bid for a second term and the betrayal by the Democratic Party that led to his decision,' according to the release. It calls it a 'hard-hitting yet hopeful critique.' The tome runs 256 pages, and goes on sale October 21. Although she has been largely quiet since Biden left office following former Vice President Kamala Harris's defeat, Jean-Pierre referenced some of the scores she plans to settle during an interview in February at the Institute of Politics at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. She said the 'toughest thing to see' was a 'firing squad' during the weeks after Biden's debate, when a series of party stalwarts pushed him to get out of the race, arguing he couldn't defeat Donald Trump with his lousy approval ratings. 'I had never seen anything like it before,' she intoned. 'I had never seen a party do that in the way that they did. And it was hurtful and sad to see that happening – a firing squad around a person who I believe was a true patriot.' Harris' loss to Trump in all seven heavily contested battleground states has led to a round of soul-searching among Democrats while Trump seeks to transform the country and takes on institutions from the Ivy League to the legal establishment to arts institutions like the Kennedy Center. Prominent figures inside and outside Biden's inner circle are getting quizzed on whether they themselves saw evidence of mental decline in the 82-year-old Democrat. The White House last year was forced to deny a report of an internal plot to entice Jean-Pierre to leave her post, amid complaints about some of her stumbles her reliance on a binder of prepared information.
