PCCI, MAP want appropriate, merit-based talents as Marcos revamps Cabinet
Marcos earlier announced his sweeping call for his Cabinet secretaries to submit their courtesy resignations after his pronouncement that the results of Eleksyon 2025 showed that the people are "tired of politics and they are disappointed with the government."
Notably, members of the President's economic team — Finance Secretary Ralph Recto, Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, Economic Planning and Development Secretary Arsenio Balisacan, Trade Secretary Cristina Roque, and Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs Frederick Go — have complied with the call of the President.
'We want to continue fostering economic growth and investor confidence. And so we hope that the courtesy resignations will bring in accountable and merit-based appointments. That those who delivered and performed well will be retained. And that new and re-appointments be done the soonest possible time to avoid uncertainty and instability and so as not to derail economic continuity,' the PCCI said.
MAP, likewise, said, 'We hope the President will find the appropriate talents for those he decides to replace —people who can effectively execute his government's plans.'
'We trust that capable, proactive, and committed individuals will be empowered and work together as a cohesive team to execute the nation's plans to uplift the lives of all Filipinos and move us closer to the outcomes our people deserve,' MAP said.
The President, in giving his directive, said he wanted to have an elbow room 'to evaluate the performance of each department and determine who will continue to serve in line with his administration's recalibrated priorities.'
MAP said that Marcos' initiative to reset key leadership roles in his administration underscores the value of principled leadership and accountability in driving progress and delivering meaningful results.
'We understand the President's actions and intentions as this happens in business and the private sector. A CEO needs to make difficult calls, such as replacing talents, with the primary objective of improving the performance of the organization. Difficult as it may be, the call of leadership is to make such hard decisions in the interest of establishing meritocracy and encouraging performance,' MAP said.
The PCCI, meanwhile, said the President's call for the courtesy resignation of his Cabinet secretaries was 'quite surprising given that the government has been performing relatively well in managing the economy.'
The business group said that it was unfortunate that economic growth has been "undermined by developments at the political front."
'We are trying to get more investments for the country especially with the passage of the CREATE MORE Act and the PPP Code,' it said. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News

Oriental Mindoro Gov. Dolor dismayed by damaged dikes
Oriental Mindoro Governor Humerlito 'Bonz' Dolor expressed his dismay over damaged dikes in his province, which was hit by floods due to the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat and the consecutive storms last month, even as these were put up fairly recently. Dolor over the weekend inspected several dikes, including one in Mulawin, Naujan where a security guard initially refused to let officials enter, as he said he received orders from the management not to let anyone in without a written request from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). 'Kaya ba pati Gobernador ayaw ninyo papasukin kasi may tinatago kayo? Dugo't pawis ng bayan yan! [Is this why you won't even let the Governor in? Because you're hiding something? That's the people's blood and sweat!],' he said in a post on his Facebook account. Dolor was eventually able to inspect the dike, which he said was full of sand, and the sheet piles were poorly embedded, and even broken, as reported by Darlene Cay on GMA's '24 Oras Weekend' on Sunday. He also inspected another flood control project in Barangay Tagumpay in Naujan, which he said cost P1 billion for one kilometer, noting that he only saw one piece of metal rod, a waste of funds when compared with the Capitol with a P2-billion budget for a year. Oriental Mindoro is one of the flood prone areas recently cited by President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr., who has ordered a review of the flood control projects across the country. GMA News Online is still trying to reach out to the private contractors of the said projects, and the DPWH for comment on the matter. During his State of the Nation Address (SONA) last July, Marcos warned government personnel who steal public funds—such as those for flood control projects—to have some shame. Just last week Marcos launched a website for citizens to report on flood control projects. Erwin Tulfo wants cooperation of online platforms vs. e-gambling
Aside from e-wallets, Senator Erwin Tulfo on Sunday said other online platforms should also cooperate with government initiatives to curb online gambling which has been flagged by the Department of Health (DOH) as a public health concern. According to Tulfo, several firms behind online gambling are now doubling efforts to shift to other mobile applications such as Viber, Telegram, Lazada, and other applications, and that gaming vouchers can still be bought through online shopping platforms. 'The fight against the accessibility of gambling to the public is far from over and we will do our best to work with the private sector and other stakeholders to come up with a holistic approach in addressing this problem,' he said in a statement. 'We are not enemies here. We are allies that should work hand in hand to ensure that the next generation of Filipinos are not gambling addicts,' he added. E-wallets Maya and GCash over the weekend unlinked from online gambling platforms, complying with the 48-hour timeline given by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), as the country seeks to curb operations of the industry. 'We laud the move of the e-wallet firms to delink these online gambling sites from their platforms. This is a sign that the business sector is willing to work with the government in addressing the problem of online gambling addiction in our country,' Tulfo said. For its part, the PlaySafe Alliance of the Philippines, a group of online gambling operators, maintained that the harms that have been highlighted stem from illegal and unlicensed platforms — underage access, uncontrolled betting, and financial distress. 'Licensed operators are subject to oversight, audits, and sanctions. They run KYC (know-your-customer), age verification, and responsible gaming mechanisms,' PlaySafe said in a separate statement released Sunday. OVP open to help distressed OFWs — VP Sara
The Office of the Vice President (OVP) is willing to assist distressed Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who choose to return to the Philippines instead of continuing to work abroad, Vice President Sara Duterte said in a statement. Duterte made the remark during her visit last week to the Filipino community in Kuwait. She left the country on Friday. She shared that their helper at home chose to return to the Philippines because her employer did not provide her with meals. 'Huwag ninyong ipagpalit ang inyong pagkatao, ang inyong dignidad bilang isang tao. Kasi yung treatment o pakikitungo na ganyan ay hindi makatao,' the Vice President said during her speech before a group of OFWs. (Do not trade your dignity as a person, because that kind of treatment is inhumane.) 'Bumalik na lang kayo sa Pilipinas, pag-usapan na lang natin sa Office of the Vice President kung saan ba kami makatulong,' she added. The OVP earlier said Duterte flew to Kuwait to join Filipinos there for a gathering to discuss concerns and issues impacting their sector. In Kuwait, the Vice President reiterated the importance of input from OFWs, particularly in sharing the positive things they see abroad. 'Mahalaga ang inyong input. Dahil kayo 'yung mga nakatira at nagkatrabaho sa iba't ibang lugar sa mundo. Dahil nakita nyo na ang the best sa ibang bansa na hindi ninyo nakikita sa ating bansa,' Duterte said. The elder Duterte is currently detained in the International Criminal Court detention facility in The Hague for charges of crimes against humanity in connection with his deadly war on drugs when he was mayor of Davao City and later, as President of the Philippines.
