Siddaramaiah Has Done More For Mysuru Than Iconic King Krishnaraja Wodeyar: Son
Even as talk of a leadership change in Karnataka is yet to completely die down, Congress Member of Legislative Council and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's son Yathindra Siddaramaiah has given his father a huge endorsement, saying his contributions could be more even than an erstwhile ruler of Mysuru, who is credited with ushering in progressive reforms during the pre-Independence era.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Yathindra Siddaramaiah said development works in the Mysuru region taken up by the Congress government during the tenure of his father equal, or are probably even more than, those by Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar.
"Apart from the funds allocated during Siddaramaiah's tenure as Chief Minister, Mysuru has not received any significant funding. Our government under Siddaramaiah has carried out as much, if not more, development than what was done during Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar's time. Therefore, the opposition's claim that we have done nothing and are holding the 'Sadhana Samavesha' event here without reason is baseless and hollow," Yathindra Siddaramaiah said.
The remarks came in response to a series of statements made by Karnataka BJP leaders, including state unit president BY Vijayendra, who claimed the event was less about showcasing achievements and more about political manoeuvring.
"The Sadhana Samavesha is not to commemorate the chief minister's achievements or to highlight development in the Mysuru region. It is being used as a tool to threaten the high command," Mr Vijayendra claimed, hinting at internal power tussles within the Congress.
He had also questioned the government's decision to hold such a high-profile event in Mysuru, claiming there was no visible progress in the region to justify it.
At the event, the state government unveiled projects worth over Rs 2,500 crores for Mysuru district.
'Apologise'
Yathindra Siddaramaiah's remarks were criticised by BJP leader R Ashoka who said that, by making the comparison with his father, the Congress leader had insulted King Wodiyar's family.
"Contributions of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wodiyar to Old Mysore are immense. He built the KRS (Krishna Raja Sagara) reservoir and provided life-giving water, enabling people to prosper. He also built soap factories, universities, and upheld social justice," Mr Ashoka, who is also the leader of the opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, said.
"Comparing someone who pawned gold jewellery to build a reservoir with those who looted 14 sites in MUDA (a reference to the alleged Mysore Urban Development Authority scam) is unacceptable. Yathindra Siddaramaiah has insulted the Maharaja's family and must apologise immediately," he said.

Phone-Tapping Rampant Under Revanth Reddy, Alleges Opposition Leader
Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader and former IPS officer RS Praveen Kumar has lodged a formal complaint with the police levelling serious allegations against Telangana's Congress government. In the complaint, he has alleged widespread phone tapping under Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy's administration. Praveen Kumar was among the first to complain about his phone being tapped during the previous BRS government. He has also appeared before the Special Investigation Team that is probing the alleged phone tapping. While the SIT's primary focus has been on surveillance under the former BRS government, Praveen Kumar has used the opportunity to expand the scope of the investigation. He has claimed that the present Congress government is utilizing "high-end dark web tools" to illegally intercept the communications of its own ministers, opposition leaders, and even businessmen. He has submitted a written complaint to the SIT, reportedly including video evidence of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy allegedly admitting to surveillance. Praveen Kumar cited instances where Mr Reddy reportedly knew about private conversations between ministers, later confronting one of them with the details. He questioned how such information could have been accessed without illicit phone tapping. He also alleged that a journalist was reprimanded by the Chief Minister for speaking to another BRS leader, again raising suspicions of surveillance. The BRS leader also pointed to media reports suggesting that malware had been planted on ministers' devices to intercept calls and messages. He urged the SIT to summon the affected ministers and conduct forensic examinations of their phones to uncover the truth. The complaint from Praveen Kumar adds a new dimension to the already complex phone-tapping investigation in Telangana. Previously, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had stated his willingness to cooperate with the SIT if he received a notice, emphasizing that while phone tapping itself isn't illegal, strict procedures must be followed. The BRS has been vocal in demanding a High Court-monitored inquiry into the phone-tapping allegations and has called for the government to submit a sealed list to the court detailing whose phones are being tapped. They have emphasized Section 5 of the Telegraph Act, which only permits phone tapping in the interest of national security. The SIT now faces the challenging task of investigating not only the alleged phone tapping during the previous administration, but also the fresh accusations of ongoing surveillance under the current government, making the probe even more politically charged.

Agency: New Delhi, Jul 28 (PTI) Congress member Praniti Shinde on Monday drew parallels between Operation Sindoor and the Colosseum in Rome, which was famous for hosting gladiatorial contests. Participating in the debate on Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha, Shinde accused the government of turning national security into a spectacle to distract the public before elections. 'Operation Sindoor sounds quite patriotic, but it appears to have been created for the media by the government. No one can tell what was achieved by Operation Sindoor. How many terrorists were caught? How many of our fighter jets were drowned? Whose fault it was," the first-term member from Solapur in Maharashtra asked. She said it was for the government to be accountable, but there are curbs on asking questions. 'This government doesn't want to listen to any questions, it runs away from being held accountable," Shinde said. She said the present-day situation reminded her of the Colosseum in Rome, which was a unique example of architecture but an equally bad and disgusting example of the politics of the day. 'It is said that the structure was built to keep the people busy in games and entertainment and distract them from the problems of the day," Shinde said. She said the government was also indulging in something similar, but just games and entertainment are not enough in the present times. 'Just before a major election, a terror attack takes place and the government gets busy with retaliatory action. The government does not know where the terrorists came from and where they went, but gets to launch an attack on a neighbouring country and win votes on that account," Shinde said. She said she stands in the House with 'anger, grief and a deep sense of insult" on behalf of the soldiers who got to know about the 'ceasefire" with Pakistan not from their prime minister but from a foreign leader. 'The terrorists from Pahalgam have not been traced. The prime minister was busy addressing an election rally in Bihar while the victims' funeral pyres were still burning," she said. Shinde also criticised a reported statement of the external affairs minister that appeared to warn the enemy ahead of an attack, asking whether that led to Indian jets being shot down. 'Under pressure from the United States, this government agreed to a shameful ceasefire. Foreign policy has become photo ops with the Indian diaspora," the Congress leader said, claiming that India's standing among its neighbours, once strong due to its 'neighbourhood first" policy, has significantly declined. Oppn leader slams mantri for Rs 4cr solar ferry ‘fraud'
Porvorim: Leader of opposition Yuri Alemao and river navigation minister Subhash Phal Dessai sparred in the assembly on Monday after the former called the Rs 4 crore hybrid solar ferry acquired by the state a fraud. Alemao said that the ferry ran only for three months and has been 'rotting' for three years now, with state spending a big amount on its repair and storage. 'When the note for the hybrid solar ferry was moved, the captain of ports said that it is not feasible and is unsuitable for Goa's river conditions... A red flag was there from the department. Still, it was put into operation. Now its internal wiring was eaten by rats. Minister Sudin (Ramkrishna Dhavalikar) went to Kerala with river navigation and CoP staff and said in the report that the proposal needs to be studied by an expert. Despite recommendations to recheck the viability of the solar ferries, why did the department go ahead and purchase it?' Alemao said. Phal Dessai said that the solar ferry was found to have 'inadequate specifications' and the department tried to repair and operate it, but there were not enough passengers to make it viable. 'We issued a tender, but no one wanted to take it, so we tendered for its use, and we got a quote where Rs 1.7 lakh per month will be generated. We will operate it again soon,' he said. 'Solar ferry was a mission commission. This is a fraud of Rs 4 crore,' Alemao said. Phal Dessai said that as part of the defect liability period, an outstanding amount of Rs 59.4 lakh has still not been paid for the ferry to the contractor, and a complaint with the directorate of industries has been filed. Rs 35 crore was spent over six years by state govt to maintain all its ferry boats, which are now 15 to 20 years old, govt could have procured new ferries, Alemao said during question hour and asked whether any cost analysis had been done on this expenditure.'Thirty-two ferries are being operated on 18 routes, each ferry boat costs Rs 30 to 40 crore to purchase, so don't you think we need to spend on maintenance? The boats run 18 hours a day, there is wear and tear. The load is huge on ferries. We have not scrapped them; we are maintaining and using them for 15 to 20 years. The CoP is certifying the seaworthiness of the ferries, and based on that, we are keeping them operational,' Phal Dessai said.
