'India deposited the Instrument of Ratification of the TEPA between India and EFTA today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway, which is the depository entity of TEPA,' the Indian Embassy in Norway said in a post on social media platform X.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal had earlier stated that the agreement will be implemented from October 1. The two sides had signed the pact on March 10, 2024.
As part of the agreement, India is set to receive $100 billion in investment over 15 years from the EFTA bloc, which comprises Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland.
In return, India will offer reduced or zero import duties on a range of goods including Swiss watches, chocolates, and cut and polished diamonds.
The agreement aims to deepen trade and investment ties between India and the non-EU European nations, and is one of India's most significant recent trade pacts.

TMC slams BJP over ‘citizenship' status of its 2 Bongaon MLAs
1 2 3 4 Kolkata: A fresh controversy has erupted over the citizenship status of two BJP MLAs in Bongaon, ratcheting up the political temperature between Trinamool and BJP over the special intensive revision (SIR) of poll rolls. The names of the MLAs' parents are missing from the recently published Bengal 2002 SIR data. The issue surfaced after the TMC-backed faction of All India Matua Mahasangha submitted a deputation to the Bongaon sub-divisional officer (SDO) on Tuesday, demanding the disqualification of Bongaon North MLA Ashok Kirtaniya. The organisation alleged that while the 2002 electoral roll contains the MLA's name — then a resident of Ghatbaur panchayat — it does not include the names of his father or other family members. The Mahasangha claimed Kirtaniya's father entered India illegally after 2010. Prosenjit Biswas, representing the Mahasangha, said: "We will approach the Union home minister and assembly speaker seeking Ashok Kirtaniya's disqualification as an MLA." Bongaon district TMC president Biswajit Das said, "Usually, the father's name appears in the voter list before the son's. Here, the son was registered first, the father later. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Egypt Solar Panels: See How Much It Will Cost To Install Them (See Prices) Solar Panel | Search Ads Learn More Undo Let Kirtaniya prove this. "Let TMC say what they want. I have all documents. They are making these allegations only to harass me," he said. Before this row could settle, similar allegations emerged against Bongaon South BJP MLA Swapan Majumdar. Trinamool accused him of being a Bangladeshi national, claiming that neither he nor his parents were listed in the 2002 rolls. Sabyasachi Bhattacharya, youth president of Bongaon's TMC's organisational district, lodged a written complaint with the SDO and also shared documents with the media. These included two Bangladeshi records — one from April 2022 in which the chairman of Nizamuddin Union Parishad claimed that Majumdar's family members were residents of Nishchintapur village in Gopalganj, and another from 1996 showing his father, Santosh Kumar Majumdar, as the seller in a land deed. TMC alleged that Majumdar moved to India after 2002 and illegally enrolled in the voter list in Palla under Gopalnagar PS. Denying the allegations, Majumdar said: "My father passed away before 2002. I moved to Mumbai for work, so I couldn't be physically present during voter list hearings, which is why my name was added later. I possess all necessary documents proving my Indian citizenship. TMC is trying to shield infiltrator Rohingya and grant citizenship to refugees." Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Ahmedabad spacetech firm joins consortium for indigenous satellites
1 2 Ahmedabad: India's first fully indigenous commercial earth observation (EO) satellite constellation is taking shape, and Ahmedabad is playing a starring role. PierSight Space, a spacetech firm from the city, has joined a four-member private consortium selected by Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), under the department of space, to build and operate the network. The Rs 1,200 crore project, under a pioneering public-private partnership (EO-PPP) model, will deploy 12 satellites equipped with synthetic aperture radar (SAR) for round-the-clock imaging in all weather. The consortium is led by PixxelSpace India and also includes Satsure Analytics India and Dhruva Space. Officials of IN-SPACe, headquartered in Ahmedabad, said that for the first time in India's space history, a private grouping will fund, design, build, and operate such a system, with the constellation expected to be launched over the next five years. The resulting EO data will serve critical sectors including climate change monitoring, disaster management, agriculture, infrastructure, marine surveillance, national security, and urban planning, said experts. Gaurav Seth, co-founder and CEO of PierSight, said their primary task will be to develop SAR technology, which allows Earth observation round the clock, in all weather conditions. "This programme ensures that India's critical sectors will no longer have to wait for foreign data or compromise on timelines. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Your Finger Shape Says a Lot About Your Personality, Read Now Tips and Tricks Undo Our constellation will put sovereign EO capabilities into the hands of Indian decision-makers, ensuring security, speed, and self-sufficiency," he said. "The real game-changer will be the context built over time, enabling insights that can drive both public and private sector decisions." Experts point to real-world applications such as mapping flood zones and detecting landslides after a cloudburst, like the recent one in Uttarakhand, or monitoring crops during the monsoon when cloud cover hampers optical satellites. SAR data can also support industries such as mining, infrastructure, and logistics, giving both govt and business stakeholders more accurate and timely intelligence.
