Penguins acquire goaltender Arturs Silovs in trade with Canucks
The Pittsburgh Penguins shored up the goaltending position on Sunday as the team acquired Arturs Silovs from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for forward Chase Stillman and a 2027 fourth-round pick.
Silovs, 24, appeared in just 10 games for the Canucks this past season. However, the 6-foot-4 Latvian shined in the American Hockey League, where he led the Abbotsford Canucks to the Calder Cup Championship as the Playoff MVP.
In 21 regular-season games with Abbotsford, Silovs went 14-5-2 with a .908 save percentage and a career-best 2.41 goals-against average. In leading the team to its first Calder Cup, he went 16-7 in 24 games with a 2.01 GAA and a .931 save percentage.
With five shutouts in the playoffs, Silovs fell one shy of the AHL all-time record during a single postseason. He also became just the fourth goaltender to earn Playoff MVP honors.
Silovs, whose contract runs through the 2025-26 season, has compiled a 59-35-13 record with a .906 save percentage and a 2.58 GAA in parts of five AHL seasons. In three years with Vancouver, he appeared in 19 games (18 starts) with an 8-8 record, .880 save percentage and 3.13 GAA.

Rafael Navarro, Calvin Harris, and Andreas Maxs scored for Colorado with Djordje Mihailovic assisting on all three goals. Goalkeeper Zack Steffen, who had been sidelined since May 14 after surgery on his right knee, made two saves in posting the shutout. 'We attacked, we defended, we moved the ball, we played some entertaining, energetic football,' said Rapids coach Chris Armas. 'For me, around the world, that's the benchmark. 'We'll have a quick turnaround and get ready for Seattle.' Winnipeg Jets sign defenceman Tyrel Bauer to 1-year deal
For the second straight day, the Winnipeg Jets got a deal done with one of their restricted free agents. Just 24 hours after the Jets re-signed Morgan Barron, they turned their attention to their top farm club. The Jets signed defenceman Tyrel Bauer to a one-year, two-way contract. It will pay him $775,000 if he's in the NHL, but Bauer will likely end up back with the AHL's Manitoba Moose next season. He earned $850,000 per season on his previous three-year entry-level contract. The 23-year-old appeared in 59 AHL games with the Moose last season and tallied a pair of assists with 105 penalty minutes. The Alberta product was the Moose winner of their AHL Specialty Man of the Year award for his work in the community. Judging by MLB commissioner Rob Manfred's comments prior to Tuesday's All-Star Game in Atlanta, he has noticed the Toronto Blue Jays are overdue to host their first midsummer classic since 1991. 'I've said before that a really significant factor in terms of All-Star Games is, when did you have the last one?' Manfred told reporters. 'Obviously, they're kind of perking up to the top of the list based on time. I'd like to be back in Toronto.' Starting with Tuesday's game, National League teams are hosting three consecutive All-Star Games. The Philadelphia Phillies secured the 2026 contest -- timed to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence -- and reports declared the Chicago Cubs have earned the nod for 2027.
