KHALIEF CANTY JR. WILL BE THE TALK OF THE RIVALS FIVE-STAR
Every year there is a prospect that comes to the Rivals Five-Star who is still a little unknown but by the time he leaves the event everyone knows his name. Last year, a strong candidate for that honor was Michigan commit Avery Gach. The offensive lineman was great at camp and had everyone buzzing.

This year I believe that player will be Khalief Canty Jr. He has a real mean streak on the field and a powerful punch to keep defenders at bay. He'll get to show his stuff against some of the best defensive linemen in the nation. He will also decide between Michigan State and Missouri with us at the event so we'll see who wins the Big Ten versus SEC battle.

ILLINOIS WILL HAVE A BIG WEEK
The Illini have already nabbed a pair of commitments this week with the additions of Jaylen Stewart and Kayden Bennett but more could be on the horizon.

Nick Hankins announces on Thursday and it seems to be down to Illinois versus Missouri for his pledge. There could be a late surprise but the Illini should feel confident here.
Kai Pritchard, the offensive tackle from New Jersey, could come off the board on Wednesday. He'd be a great addition to the nice offensive line class that coach Bret Bielema is putting together.
Another prospect to keep an eye on is nickel Isaiah Williams. The versatile defensive back out of Texas racked up 34 scholarship offers and the Illini have locked in on him to be part of their future defense.
Commitments have come in waves for Illinois this cycle and another big one could be coming to Champaign.

OREGON WILL HEAT UP ON THE TRAIL SOON

Take a snapshot of the recruiting standings right now because you aren't likely to see it again. Oregon is sitting in 12th place in the Big Ten with just eight commits for the 2026 class.
But that could all change soon.
Oregon has had some high-profile misses this cycle that isn't like coach Dan Lanning and company. But there are some blue-chip talents that could have decisions soon that the Ducks are heavily involved with.
Five-star quarterback Ryder Lyons is still out there and the Ducks are in a battle for his pledge. Five-star Alabama edge defender Anthony Jones could combine with five-star Richard Wesley for a dynamic pass rush duo. That's if the Ducks can also get Wesley back in the class. California four-star cornerback Davon Benjamin is leaning toward the Ducks.

Oregon is a finalist for elite defensive lineman Deuce Geralds but players of his caliber are so hard to pull out of the South.
I'm predicting that Oregon will go on a big run to close the month.

'Massage, needles, hyperbaric, H waves': What Tyrese Haliburton said about his injury
INDIANAPOLIS -- Pacers All-Star point guard Tyrese Haliburton acknowledged Wednesday that he is dealing with a right calf strain and coach Rick Carlisle still categorized his status for Game 6 of the NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder as close to a game-time decision at media availability Wednesday. The Pacers are down 3-2 and facing elimination in Thursday's 8:30 p.m. game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The Pacers held a walk-through Wednesday morning and a shootaround open to media for about half an hour around noon. Haliburton participated in both and had no issues shooting the ball, but Carlisle acknowledged there was no real running involved. "It's a topic that people want to hear about and know about. There's going to be a lot of questions about it. We will not really know for sure until late tomorrow afternoon or early evening." Haliburton has been getting treatment on his lower right leg since Game 2, but he acknowledged Wednesday that the injury he was dealing with in Game 2 was an ankle issue and he didn't have a calf problem until Game 5 when he tripped and fell trying to drive to the lane in the first quarter. He struggled through the rest of the game and finished with four points on 0 of 6 shooting, but after Game 5 he said he intended to play in Game 6 and that in the NBA Finals, he would want to play if he could walk. However, on Wednesday, he also acknowledged he'd have to listen to the Pacers' medical staff to make sure he's not running the risk of turning a minor injury into a major one. Kevin Durant missed four games in the NBA Finals with a calf strain in 2019, returned for Game 5 and then suffered an Achilles tendon tear that kept him off the floor for the entire 2019-20 season. "I think I have to be as smart as I want to be," Haliburton said. "Have to understand the risks, ask the right questions. I'm a competitor; I want to play. I'm going to do everything in my power to play. That's just what it is." Haliburton said he expects the treatment to be near-constant over the next 30 hours. "I think just around-the-clock stuff as much as I can," Haliburton said. "Massage, needles, hyperbaric, H waves. Everything you can do to get as comfortable as you can going into it. The right tape and stuff while I am performing I'm sure there's a bunch of medical professionals who could give you a better answer. Just doing everything I'm told. Trying to do everything I can." Haliburton is, of course, used to the process of game-time decisions related to medical issues as he's dealt with an array of injuries over the last three seasons including a elbow sprain in 2022-23, a hamstring strain in 2023-24, a groin strain this season and back issues. He's had injuries he's played through and others that have led to him being shut down and has said in the past that the medical staff sometimes saves him from himself when he wants to push past an injury he shouldn't. "I have a lot of trust in our medical staff," Haliburton said. "I have a lot of trust in our organization to make the right decision. I think there's been many situations through the course of my career where they've trusted me on my body. You're here more than anybody. You know I'm questionable from time to time throughout the course of season. They trust me to make the right decision on my body when the power is in my hands. I'm trying to try my best to do that. I mean, you understand that. I want to be out there. That's the plan." Haliburton acknowledged, though, that the calculus is different in the NBA Finals. In the regular season, he'd probably sit out a week or two weeks to heal.

We'll see whether or not the Philadelphia Phillies have a similar problem on their hands with All-Star right fielder Nick Castellanos. Phillies manager Rob Thomson benched Castellanos on Tuesday, citing a negative comment the 33-year-old veteran made during Monday's 5-2 victory over the Miami Marlins. Castellanos evidently disagreed with Thomson's decision to pull him in the eighth inning for defensive reasons. Could Castellanos' benching, even if it's only for one night, eventually lead to a trade? The Blue Jays should be asking themselves that exact question, and they should be ready to pounce if the Phillies are willing to talk. Philadelphia Phillies right fielder Nick CastellanosRon Chenoy-Imagn Images Castellanos has a season and a half remaining on the five-year, $100 million contract he signed after the 2020 season. He's admittedly been relatively average thus far, hitting .278 with seven home runs, 36 RBI, 17 doubles, and a .746 OPS. Advertisement Those numbers are all in line with last year's, though his bWAR has plummeted from 0.8 to -0.5. However, Castellanos offers durability, and he'd undoubtedly be an upgrade in left field over rookie Alan Roden. Unfortunately for the Blue Jays, they're likely stuck with Anthony Santander and his .577 OPS at DH, given that he's in the first season of a five-year, $92.5 million contract. Castellanos should come relatively cheap, and the Blue Jays are in an excellent position to make a playoff run. Toronto entered Tuesday at 38-33, holding the AL's second Wild Card berth and only four games out of first in the AL East. Advertisement As for the Phillies, ditching Castellanos could eventually pave the way for another outfield-related trade. Boston Red Sox star Jarren Duran has been linked to the Phillies in recent weeks, and Chicago White Sox veteran Luis Robert Jr. remains available. If that wasn't enough, Major League Baseball announced on Monday that Harper ranks fourth among NL first basemen in All-Star voting. Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Freddie Freeman had 1,136,389 votes as of Monday afternoon, by far the most among NL first basemen. Harper had 276,647 votes, narrowly trailing Chicago Cubs first baseman Michael Bush's 286,931 votes. New York Mets star Pete Alonso (895,900) has a considerable lead over both players. Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Bryce HarperJohn E. Sokolowski-Imagn Images That's not to say Harper necessarily deserves an All-Star nod. Harper hit the IL batting .258 with nine home runs, 34 RBI, and a .814 OPS over 253 at-bats. He's posted 1.5 bWAR for the second-place Phillies, who trail the Mets by two games in the NL East. Advertisement It's nonetheless surprising that Haper doesn't have more votes, though, especially given his name and reputation. He's certainly more recognizable than Busch, a third-year first baseman hitting .265 with 11 home runs, 39 RBI, and a .861 OPS for the NL Central-leading Cubs. No Phillies player ranked higher than third at their position. However, each team must have one representative, and ace Zack Wheeler (7-2, 2.76 ERA) appears on track to earn his third All-Star selection. Wheeler is already worth 3.0 bWAR, and he's recorded a brilliant 110-19 K-BB ratio in 88 innings.
