Melania Trump threatens to sue Hunter Biden for $1bn over Jeffrey Epstein claim
Melania Trump has threatened to sue Joe Biden's son Hunter after he claimed billionaire paedophile Jeffrey Epstein introduced her to t he president.
The First Lady's legal team described the comments as "false, disparaging, defamatory and inflammatory" as they warned if he did not retract the claim, they would launch a $1bn lawsuit against him.
Biden made the comments earlier this month during an interview. He also criticised her husband's former ties to the monster financier, who took his own life while awaiting trial over sex offences in 2019.
While Trump and Epstein were friends at one point, the president has claimed they fell out after the paedophile poached employees that worked at his golf club in Florida.
In a letter addressed to Biden's lawyers, Melania's legal team demands he retracts the claim and apologise or face the crippling lawsuit.
The First Lady has suffered "overwhelming financial and reputational harm" due to the claim that he repeated, the letter states.
The letter also gets a little more personal as the youngest Biden son is accused of having a "vast history of trading on the names of others", adding that the recent comments were a way of him "draw[ing] attention to yourself".
Earlier this month, Biden told filmmaker Andrew Callaghan that unreleased documents would "implicate" President Trump.
He said: "Epstein introduced Melania to Trump - the connections are so wide and deep."
The claim first emerged in a critical biography of the president penned by journalist Michael Wolff.
In a Daily Beast interview, Wolff claimed the first lady was an associate of the sex offender when she met Trump. The outlet later retracted the story after receiving a similar letter.
The first lady accused Biden of relying on the contents of a since-removed article for his claims. The legal team describe the article as "false and defamatory".
The archived version of the Daily Beast article reads: "After this story was published, The Beast received a letter from First Lady Melania Trump's attorney challenging the headline and framing of the article.
"After reviewing the matter, the Beast has taken down the article and apologizes for any confusion or misunderstanding."
It comes ahead of the release of an explosive book about Prince Andrew, which could potentially have implications reaching as far as the White House.
Andrew Lownie's latest work, The Rise and Fall of the House of York, dedicates a whole chapter to the paedophile billionaire Jeffrey Epstein.
Lownie suggests that Andrew's connection with Epstein was the royal's downfall. In 2022, the Duke of York - the youngest son of the late Queen Elizabeth - faced US civil proceedings over sexual assault allegations. While he paid a settlement, Andrew has always denied any wrongdoing. He subsequently agreed to stop using his Royal Highness title and ceased all public duties and saw his military honours and Royal patronages "returned to the monarch".

Top EU leaders to join Zelenskyy in DC for talks with Donald Trump
Zelenskyy requested, and secured, the presence of European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen, French president Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Finnish president Alexander Stubb on the trip. Politico reports that the leaders confirmed their presence on the trip on Sunday, as part of a coordinated effort to show support for Ukraine. They are said to be attending to ensure key red lines are not crossed – and that Ukraine is not forced to give up territory to secure a peace deal. It comes after Zelenskyy said that Russia was complicating efforts to secure a ceasefire in Ukraine, following a meeting between Trump and Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska. 'At the request of President Zelenskyy, I will join the meeting with President Trump and other European leaders in the White House tomorrow,' von der Leyen said in a statement. READ MORE: Police Scotland 'breaching human rights to subdue Palestine protests' Zelenskyy is set to arrive in Brussels on Sunday for a virtual summit with the coalition of the willing, the countries pushing for continued support for Ukraine. The German government's spokesperson, Stefan Kornelius, said the purpose of the visit to the Oval Office on Monday 'is to exchange information with … Trump following his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska'. 'Chancellor Merz will discuss the status of peace efforts with the heads of state and government and emphasise Germany's interest in a quick peace agreement in Ukraine,' he added. Zelenskyy's last visit to the Oval Office made headlines around the world after the Ukrainian leader clashed with Trump and vice president JD Vance. In the infamous clash in February, Trump called Zelenskyy 'disrespectful' for seeking help from the US, with the US president shouting at the Ukrainian leader and claiming he was 'gambling with millions of lives', and suggesting his actions could trigger World War 3. The two leaders are set to meet in the Oval Office again on Monday after Trump met with Putin on Friday. The US President claimed the two sides had agreed on 'many points' but a peace plan did not materialise. There are now concerns that Trump is in favour of a Russian land grab to end the war. (Image: PA) Following the Alaska summit, the US President suggested he wants to move straight to a full peace deal, rather than negotiating a ceasefire first. The shift in Trump's position appears to echo the Russians' refusal to agree to a ceasefire before engaging in peace talks. Several news outlets have cited sources which claimed that during the negotiations Putin demanded full control of Donetsk and Luhansk – two occupied Ukrainian regions – as a condition for ending the war. In exchange, he would give up other Ukrainian territories held by Russian troops. Other outlets reported that Trump is inclined to support the plan, and will speak to Zelenskyy about it when they meet in the Oval Office.

European leaders to join Zelensky when he meets Trump at the White House
Mr Zelensky's Oval Office rendezvous with the US president will take place after Western allies meet for a coalition of the willing video call on Sunday afternoon. The call will be hosted by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, France's Emmanuel Macron and Mr Merz. This afternoon, I will welcome @ZelenskyyUa in Brussels. Together, we will participate in the Coalition of Willing VTC. At the request of President Zelenskyy, I will join the meeting with President Trump and other European leaders in the White House tomorrow. — Ursula von der Leyen (@vonderleyen) August 17, 2025 Downing Street would not comment on whether Sir Keir plans to travel to Washington to join other European leaders on Monday. The show of unity by European leaders comes as Mr Trump appears poised to urge the Ukrainian leader to agree to a Russian land grab of his country's territory, according to reports. Several news outlets have reported Russian president Vladimir Putin has demanded full control of Donetsk and Luhansk – two occupied Ukrainian regions – as a condition for ending the war. In exchange, he would give up other Ukrainian territories held by Russian troops, several news outlets said, attributing sources familiar with Mr Putin and Mr Trump's negotiations in Alaska on Friday. Mr Trump is said to be inclined to support the plan, and will speak to Mr Zelensky about it when they meet in the Oval Office The European leaders may also fear a repeat of Mr Zelensky's last visit to the White House at the end of February. The tumultuous spat resulted in a souring of relations between the US and Ukraine.
