The Artist Leader Programme Inspires Young Performers Find Their Voice
Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), in collaboration with Project You, is launching 'The Artist Leader' programme to nurture emerging performers, engage school students, and inspire them to explore the world of interactive theatre. This initiative offers enriching experiences designed to build confidence, enhance performance skills, and foster leadership. It reflects Dubai Culture's ongoing commitment to empower the next generation, support the cultural and creative industries, and contribute to Dubai's vision of becoming a global centre for culture, an incubator for creativity, and a thriving hub for talent.
Running from 24 April to 31 May at Al Jalila Cultural Centre for Children, the programme includes workshops and training sessions introducing participants to the key components of immersive theatre, including spatial dynamics, audience interaction, and the guiding role of a facilitator. Along the way, they'll delve into storytelling, character creation, and the use of props and costumes. The experience also encourages them to see performance as a platform for meaningful dialogue, using the medium to address real-world issues in imaginative and impactful ways.
Led by a team of experts, the sessions, held every Thursday and Saturday, equip attendees with practical techniques such as breathing control, voice projection, character building, scene creation, and improvisation. Training also focuses on essential life competencies, including self-expression, time management, communication, and problem-solving. A lineup of engaging specialised exercises in theatre and leadership is meant to boost confidence and prepare students to connect with audiences directly from the stage. The agenda features brainstorming huddles, focused on developing and performing scenes that creatively tackle topics relevant to teenagers.
Maitha Ali Shahdad, Acting Director of Al Jalila Cultural Centre for Children, highlighted Dubai Culture's dedication to showcasing the impact of interactive theatre in youth development. She said: 'Interactive theatre is a modern art form that breaks away from conventional frameworks by inviting direct audience involvement. It plays a significant role in shaping perspectives and encouraging social awareness as it helps instill positive values and broaden understanding of important issues. The Artist Leader programme offers a space for young minds to think independently, tap into their potential, and unlock new dimensions of creativity through the performing arts.'

Dubai Culture Launches Immersive Interactive Experiences Around ‘Resonance'
Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has announced a public programme accompanying the public art installation Resonance, created in collaboration with the Alserkal Arts Foundation in the Al Shindagha Historic Neighbourhood. This initiative falls under the Authority's Dubai Public Art Strategy, which aims to transform the emirate into a global open-air art gallery, while reinforcing its leadership on the international cultural for 26 April, the event offers a unique opportunity to explore the aesthetic dimensions of artwork by graphic designer Maryam Namvar and architect Neda Salmanpour. It also highlights the area's distinctive architecture and immersive art installations, which enrich the local creative agenda features a panel discussion titled 'Perception Reimagined: Sound and Place,' moderated by curator Munira Al Sayegh. Emirati sound artist Safeya Al Blooshi will share her insights on experimental field recordings to examine the relationship between our environment and sound and how acoustic characteristics define a place. Meanwhile, Maryam Namvar and Neda Salmanpour will discuss their experience creating Resonance, a work of art composed of three suspended metal panels that mirror the visual and auditory aspects of the district. The piece invites reflection on the interplay of wind, water, and architecture, as well as the historical and societal significance of the artist and curator Ose Ekore will lead the listening session 'Weightlessness Through Sound,' offering attendees a collective immersion inspired by the natural elements surrounding the location. The programme includes a multisensory audiovisual walk titled 'In Reaction to Sound,' designed to engage the audience with the dynamic interaction of different senses in the creative process. Hala Badri Visits Shifting Gazes Exhibition
Hala Badri, Director General of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), has visited 'Shifting Gazes: Women Through Middle Eastern Eyes' at The Farjam Foundation in DIFC Gate Avenue. The exhibition, running until 15 October, showcases a curated selection of contemporary artworks. Badri's attendance reflects Dubai Culture's ongoing efforts to strengthen partnerships with entities supporting Dubai's cultural and creative industries. It also underscores the Authority's commitment to empowering creative talent and encouraging their contribution to the sector, further solidifying Dubai's position as a hub for the creative economy. During the visit, Hala Badri toured the exhibition, which features 27 carefully selected contemporary artworks from The Farjam Foundation's collection by regional artists. The works, curated by Amir Arvand, explore how Middle Eastern artists have depicted women over the past eight decades, presented across four thematic sections: Identity and Visibility; Personal and Emotional Landscapes; Tradition, Modernity, and Cultural Memory; and Social Commentary and Critique.
