Parents' horror as son, 15, is put on wrong plane after they were separated at Spanish airport... and flew without a ticket to Milan instead of London
The incident occurred after they were separated from him in a busy airport in Menorca, Spain, ahead of their scheduled Tui flight back to London Stansted.
Police checked CCTV cameras and discovered the 15-year-old had managed to get past security and board a flight heading to Milan Malpensa Airport instead.
The boy's mum is now flying to Italy later today to bring him back to the UK.
Spanish police confirmed this afternoon they had helped locate the youngster after he became separated from his mum and dad.
A well-placed source said: 'They were due to catch Tui flight BY5107 back to London Stansted Airport this morning but became separated.
'The boy's parents ended up reporting him missing, and that led to police intervention.'
A spokesman for the National Police in Majorca said: 'Officers checked cameras in the departures area and saw the teenager had managed to get onto a flight to Milan.
'The airport had already activated its missing child alert system, but it was deactivated after it was confirmed the lad was on his way to Italy.'
It was not immediately clear this afternoon how the youngster, who, according to local reports, may suffer autism, managed to board easyJet flight U23762, which left Menorca around 9.25am this morning, without a valid ticket.
The Tui flight was due to leave at 10.25am local time and ended up departing 45 minutes behind schedule.
One airport insider suggested the boy could have evaded the normal security checks in place after the boarding gate had already closed and staff checking passports and tickets had left their posts.
Easyjet, who are expected to launch an investigation into what went wrong, has been approached for comment.
Airline staff are said to have realised a passenger without the proper ticket was on board during the flight.
The British family at the centre of this morning's drama have not been identified.
It is not known whether they were travelling with other children, and exactly where in the airport, and how the teenager became separated from his parents.

THIS is the moment a migrant boat arrives on a Spanish holiday beach before they are chased and tackled by angry locals. Around a dozen of those who arrived on the boat were detained, with some held by beachgoers until authorities arrived. 5 5 5 5 The shocking incident unfolded on Sotillo Beach in Castell de Ferro, Granada in the afternoon on Sunday. Footage shared on social media shows a speed boat with young men on board arriving at the shore at around 2pm. Those on the boat are captured diving into the water in front of stunned holidaymakers and locals. They then swim to the beach before attempting making a run for it. But locals are seen tackling some of the migrants to the ground, whilst others manage to escape. A clip shows a beachgoer in swimming trunks pinning one man down whilst he appears to beg to be let go. Later footage shows authorities taking those who arrived on the boat to be detained. Witnesses branded the scenes as "surreal". Restaurant owner Alberto Garcia told local newspaper Ideal: "We all stood there staring, not quite knowing what was happening. "We thought it was a recreational boat, but when we saw that they started throwing objects into the water and people starting to get out, we realised it wasn't normal. Moment pedalo hurled 50ft in air by tornado narrowly missing fleeing tourists "What surprised us most was that the boat was moving very slowly, as if they weren't in a hurry or afraid. "They went in where there were most people, as if nothing had happened, and stopped five metres from the shore. "Then they jumped off one by one, and the four remaining on board, some of them hooded, calmly turned around and left." Around 13 men, believed to be of Moroccan origin, are believed to have jumped out of the boat. According to witnesses, some of the migrants ran along the beach as soon as they reached dry land, while others tried to blend in with the crowd. However, some beach goers detained them until the Guardia Civil arrived. The Polica Local de Castell de Ferro added: "The lifeguards alerted us, and we managed to catch one on the street. Then we helped identify two more. "The Civil Guard did the bulk of the work and managed to arrest nine."
