Cuomo calls out NYC mayoral candidate Mamdani over rent-stabilized apartment: 'Move out immediately'

Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo slammed Big Apple mayoral opponent Zohran Mamdani Friday for living in a rent-stabilized apartment, despite being "very rich." "Somewhere last night in New York City, a single mother and her children slept at a homeless shelter because you, assemblyman [Zohran Mamdani], are occupying her rent-controlled apartment," Cuomo posted to X on Friday along with a video of the lawmaker saying his monthly rent totals $2,300. Mamdani's Former Dem Colleague Rails Against His Signature Campaign Promise: 'Nail In The Coffin' Cuomo, who lost the Democratic primary to Mamdani but is taking him on again as an independent in the general election, called on his opponent to surrender his apartment to someone more deserving of a subsidy. He cited Mamdani's affluent upbringing, more than six-figure income and international property ownership. Cuomo also noted Mamdani's wife is employed — driving their household income even higher. "No matter which way you cut it: Zohran Mamdani is a rich person," Cuomo said in the post. "You are actually very rich. Yet you and your wife pay $2,300 a month, as you have bragged, for a nice apartment in Astoria. That should be housing for someone who needs it." Expert Flips Script On Key Mamdani Housing Problem He Says Will Make Crisis Worse: 'Basic Economics' Read On The Fox News App The former governor also cited New York City's affordability crisis, noting that millions of the city's low-income residents need reasonably-priced apartments. The median rent in New York City has reached $3,397, a nearly $200 increase since 2024, according to "Today, I am calling on you to move out immediately and give your affordable housing back to an unhoused family who need it," Cuomo said. "Leaders must show moral clarity. Time to move out." Andrew Cuomo Talks Rematch With Mamdani, Says Socialist's Policies Will Cause 'Death' Of Nyc Earlier this week, Cuomo called out Mamdani for owning property in Uganda despite the country's anti-LGBT policies. "Up until now, Zohran Mamdani and his campaign have successfully evaded any scrutiny: He talks like Bernie but lives like Bezos," a spokesperson for Cuomo told Fox News Digital in an email. "It turns out handing the keys of New York City to a no-show, do-nothing assemblyman hypocrite is a bad idea. Andrew Cuomo is running to protect our streets, for REAL affordability, and to build a new New York City by giving opportunity to those who actually need it." Editor's note: The video aired on June 11, following the New Jersey primary election. NEW JERSEY (PIX11) — A new poll shows the Democratic nominee has an eight-point lead in the race to be New Jersey's next Governor– and President Trump's policies may be a drag on the Republican nominee. The poll from Fairleigh Dickinson University shows Democratic Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill at 45%. Republican challenger Jack Ciattarelli is at 37%. 16% of voters remain undecided. More Local News The race for New Jersey Governor in the year after a Presidential election is often seen as an important test for the President– in this case, President Donald Trump. Fairleigh Dickinson had some revealing insights into how national issues are impacting Trump's endorsed candidate, Ciattarelli. Polling found that when questions framed the race around local issues like NJ Transit and flooding, 7% of independent voters moved toward Ciattarelli. But when it was framed around national issues like President Trump and immigration, 4% of independent voters moved away from Ciattarelli. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Zohran Mamdani ‘absolutely' supports Mikie Sherrill in bid for NJ governor

NEW YORK (PIX11) – Democratic nominee for New York City mayor, Zohran Mamdani, said he supports Rep. Mikie Sherrill in her bid to become New Jersey's next governor. Much has been made about who is and is not endorsing Mamdani, a 33-year-old Democratic socialist who currently represents Queens in the New York State Assembly. While some have waffled on supporting him, Mamdani said in a new exclusive interview with PIX on Politics that he 'absolutely' supports Sherill when asked directly. More Local News The definitive support for Sherrill by Mamdani comes despite many establishment Democrats like House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, both New Yorkers, still declining to formally endorse him. Sherill herself has waffled. Immediately after Mamdani's primary win, she said: 'If he's the Democratic candidate, which it sounds like he is, I assume I will [support him],' the Democratic nominee for New Jersey governor said to NBC Philadelphia. A month later, on PIX11 News, Sherrill said: 'I have not weighed in. I have not made endorsements in New York because I'm running in New Jersey. Her Republican opponent, Jack Ciattarelli, has made tying Sherrill to Mamdani a central theme of his 2025 campaign. Ciattarelli himself once distanced himself from President Donald Trump, but he is now endorsed by Trump. Mamdani's relevance to an important neighboring race in 2025 may be a preview of what Republicans seek to accomplish during the crucial 2026 midterm elections. More: Latest News from Around the Tri-State In response, Mamdani has repeatedly said he would remain focused on affordability and uniting Democrats on that issue. On the midterms next year, Mamdani was specifically asked on PIX on Politics how he would handle them. 'What I'm excited about is creating an example in this city of what it means to deliver for working people,' Mamdani said. 'When we make buses faster, when we freeze the rent, when we deliver universal childcare, let that be an example of when Democrats actually get into office, deliver for working people.'
