Los Angeles Times to Be Publicly Traded Company in 2026
Patrick Soon-Shiong, owner of the Los Angeles Times, revealed plans to take the historic newspaper public next year.
This move will expand ownership and give the public an opportunity to participate in its future.
The Los Angeles Times is one of the largest and most prestigious daily newspapers in the United States.
Its owner said: 'Whether you're on the right or the left, Democrat or Republican, you're American — and it's important to provide a newspaper that reflects everyone's voice.'
Founded in 1881, the paper has earned more than 40 Pulitzer Prizes and covers a wide range of topics including politics, economics, culture, technology, environment, and state-level news in California.
Soon-Shiong emphasized that the IPO initiative will reinforce the newspaper's position as a platform for "people's voices, across all political perspectives." He added that preparations for the public offering are already underway in coordination with a specialized advisory firm.
In recent years, the Los Angeles Times has faced mounting financial challenges, largely due to declining advertising revenue and shifts in how audiences consume news. In early 2024, the paper was forced to lay off newsroom staff in a bid to cut costs and restructure operations.

AL chief Aboul-Gheit condemns Knesset vote on bill imposing 'Israeli sovereignty' over West Bank - Foreign Affairs
Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, condemned in the strongest terms the Knesset's vote yesterday on a bill imposing Israeli control over the West Bank, occupied in 1967. He stated that the bill represents a link in an ongoing plan to impose a fait accompli by perpetuating the occupation and annexing the occupied Palestinian territory. Jamal Rushdi, the Secretary-General's official spokesman, quoted Aboul Gheit as affirming that the occupation's attempts to change the legal status of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, are unacceptable and have no legal basis. The West Bank is occupied territory under international law as recognized by the United Nations, and Knesset laws will not change this fact, said Aboul-Gheit. Aboul Gheit called on the international community to firmly confront such legally invalid and morally reprehensible measures, stressing the need to adhere to Security Council resolutions, most notably Resolutions 242 (1967) and 2234 (2016), as a basis for ending the occupation, in the face of Israel's plans to normalize the legal status of occupation by annexing the West Bank. He added that extremist settlements and religious movements within Israel would lead the entire region to catastrophic religious confrontations if they are not confronted and their obsessive ambitions are not challenged. Earlier on Thursday, Egypt, along with a group of Arab and Islamic nations, strongly condemned the Israeli Knesset's approval of the declaration calling for the imposition of the so-called 'Israeli sovereignty' over the occupied West Bank. Columbia University to Pay $221 Mln in Federal Settlement
Israa Farhan Columbia University has reached a $221 million settlement with the United States federal government, resolving multiple investigations and restoring access to suspended federal funding, the institution confirmed on Wednesday. The agreement includes a $200 million payment over three years related to investigations into alleged antisemitism on campus, as well as a $21 million settlement with the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The deal follows months of federal scrutiny and marks a turning point for one of America's most prestigious academic institutions. Crucially, Columbia retains full autonomy over core academic affairs, including faculty appointments, admissions policies, and curricular design. Acting President Claire Shipman described the outcome as a vital step toward restoring institutional stability and clarity after a prolonged period of regulatory tension. As part of the agreement, the majority of federal research grants suspended or revoked earlier in the year will be reinstated, providing a significant financial lifeline to the university's research and academic programs. The settlement comes one day after Columbia imposed disciplinary action on dozens of students involved in pro-Palestinian demonstrations in spring 2024 and May 2025. These sanctions include expulsions, suspensions, probations, and revocation of degrees. The university had become a central stage for nationwide protests against the war in Gaza. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks

Egypt, Arab, Islamic nations condemn Knesset declaration on 'Israeli sovereignty' over West Bank - Foreign Affairs
Egypt, along with a group of Arab and Islamic nations, strongly condemned the Israeli Knesset's approval of the declaration calling for the imposition of the so-called 'Israeli sovereignty' over the occupied West Bank. This came in a joint statement by Egypt, Bahrain, Indonesia, Jordan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Nigeria, as well as the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). On Wednesday, the Israeli Knesset voted 71-13 in favour of a non-binding draft resolution supporting the imposition of so-called 'Israeli sovereignty' over the occupied West Bank, a move that would initiate the annexation process. The Arab and Islamic joint statement considered the Knesset's approval of the declaration a blatant and unacceptable violation of international law and a flagrant breach of relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions, foremost among which are Resolutions 242 (1967), 338 (1973), and 2334 (2016). These resolutions affirm the invalidity of all measures and decisions seeking to legitimize the occupation, including settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territory. In a related statement, the OIC expressed on Wednesday its rejection and strong condemnation of the vote, describing it as a dangerous escalation aimed at consolidating the illegal colonial occupation and undermining the two-state solution. The statement also reaffirmed that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territory (OPT). "This unilateral move has no legal effect and cannot alter the OPT's legal status, particularly East Jerusalem, which remains an integral part of the territory," it stressed. On Wednesday, the Arab and Islamic states emphasized that such Israeli actions fuel growing regional tension, exacerbated by Israel's aggression on Gaza and the resulting humanitarian catastrophe. The statement comes as Israel ratchets up intensified military operations across the occupied West Bank, killing hundreds and demolishing hundreds of homes, in addition to building more settlements in the occupied territories. It also comes as the 2.3 million population of Gaza have been facing starvation, with tens succumbing to death from hunger, as the Israeli blockade on the entry of all food, water, and medicine nears its fifth month. In recent days, images of emaciated people in Gaza, many dead and others dying, including children, have sent shivers down the spines of millions around the world. On Monday, 25 Western countries, along with the EU's crisis commissioner, issued a joint statement calling for an immediate end to Israel's war on Gaza and the immediate and unfettered entry of humanitarian aid to the strip. This statement, which Egypt welcomed, condemned Israel's blockade on the entry of aid to the strip and rejected any forced displacement or settlement expansion in the occupied Palestinian territories. On Wednesday, more than 100 international aid organizations affirmed that mass starvation is spreading in the strip and called for the immediate end of the Israeli blockade on Gaza. The Arab and Islamic joint statement further called on the international community, including the UNSC and all relevant actors, to shoulder their legal and moral responsibilities and take action that halts Israel's illegal policies aimed at imposing a fait accompli by force. "Such policies undermine the prospects for a just and lasting peace and the two-state solution," it affirmed. The Arab and Islamic nations also asserted their commitment to the two-state solution based on international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative and to an independent sovereign Palestinian state based on the 4 June 1967 borders. In 2024, the Knesset passed a similar agenda motion opposing the establishment of a Palestinian state, with a vote of 68-9. Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:
