76ers rookie VJ Edgecombe's emotional ‘no electricity' revelation during draft reaction

The post 76ers rookie VJ Edgecombe's emotional 'no electricity' revelation during draft reaction appeared first on ClutchPoints. The NBA Draft is always an emotional night, but few had more tear-jerking thoughts in 2025 than Philadelphia 76ers selection VJ Edgecombe. Advertisement After getting taken at No. 3 overall, Edgecombe could hardly contain his emotions while thanking his mother and reflecting on his journey. The former Baylor guard revealed how much his mother sacrificed to get him to his goal, saying his family had 'no electricity' for the majority of his childhood. 'She worked too hard, man, she worked too hard,' Edgecombe said. 'Especially for me, my brothers, my little sisters and my little brother. I just want to return the favor for her… Man, those long nights. I lived off a generator. I had no electricity; I lived off a generator for seven years. Seeing what she had to go through to feed us, man, it's crazy.' Edgecombe was born and raised in the Bahamas before moving to Florida in high school to advance his basketball career. He spent his prep years playing for two different schools — Victory International Institute and Long Island Lutheran High School — before committing to Baylor as a five-star prospect. Advertisement Edgecombe joins the 76ers after averaging 15.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.1 steals per game in his lone season at Baylor. The athletic guard figures to slot into Philadelphia's backcourt rotation with Kyle Lowry, Quentin Grimes and Kelly Oubre Jr. hitting free agency. VJ Edgecombe joins 76ers' intriguing backcourt rotation Bill Streicher-Imagn Images As the 76ers' newest member, Edgecombe provides a unique skill set for a struggling team in transition. The 19-year-old forms an intriguing tandem with 2024 first-round pick Jared McCain, who projects to return from a torn meniscus in 2025-2026. Edgecombe and McCain give the team a lot of optimism for the future. Before going down, McCain was the frontrunner for the Rookie of the Year award, posting stellar averages of 15.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game while shooting 38.3 percent from deep. Advertisement While the team boasts a promising core of young talent, Joel Embiid's status remains up in the air. The team provided an ominous update on the former MVP's injury status ahead of the draft, offering no answers. Embiid, who appeared in just 19 games in 2024-2025, continues to be one of the biggest wild cards of the league. Dylan Harper's mom goes viral at 2025 NBA Draft after Spurs selection

The post Dylan Harper's mom goes viral at 2025 NBA Draft after Spurs selection appeared first on ClutchPoints. New San Antonio Spurs guard Dylan Harper had a night to remember at the 2025 NBA Draft, but it was his mom, Maria Harper, who unexpectedly became the star of the show. As the 19-year-old shooting guard made his way across the stage after being picked second overall by the San Antonio Spurs, the cameras zoomed in on his family—and social media exploded with excitement. Advertisement Fans took to platforms like X to express their admiration for Maria's grace and elegance during her son's big moment. The reactions were a wonderful blend of awe and appreciation, with many people declaring her the true star of the evening. Her appearance alongside Dylan and his brother, Ron Jr., during a live interview with ESPN's Monica McNutt only fueled the viral excitement. But beyond the fleeting fame, Maria Harper has been a cornerstone in Dylan's basketball journey. A former Division I player at the University of New Orleans, she shifted gears to coaching nearly thirty years ago. Maria wasn't just a coach; she was a constant source of support for Dylan, guiding him from first grade all the way through his senior year in high school. Advertisement Their strong connection was clear when she talked about his 'determination, hard work, and humility' during the ESPN interview. Dylan, who shone at Rutgers and followed in the footsteps of his father, five-time NBA champion Ron Harper, has made it clear in past interviews that his mom was his first and most significant coach. Interestingly, Ron Harper Sr. remained seated in the crowd while Maria took the spotlight with Dylan during the broadcast. This choice highlighted the family dynamic, with Dylan crediting his mom for pushing him to excel and keeping him grounded. Maria supported Dylan's development as a student-athlete and as a person in her role as a former athlete, coach, and mentor. Advertisement Now that Dylan is beginning a new journey with the NBA, he will always remember his draft night—not only because he was drafted by the Spurs, but because this was a truly special moment demonstrating the power of a parent's support. Big Ben reacts to Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers' retirement talk: ‘Last glimpse of greatness'

Aaron Rodgers sent the NFL world into a frenzy with his retirement comments — and Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger has weighed in. On Wednesday's livestream of the Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger podcast, Rodgers' retirement comments were a hot topic of discussion — leading Big Ben to praise the farewell tour in 2025: "If we're going to take [Rodgers] for his word on that — that this is it — then you're going to get to see one of the greatest of all time play one more season," Roethlisberger said. "I think every week is gonna be must-see TV in a sense. … Fans of football are going to be coming out, whether it's at home, on the road — because you want to get a glimpse of greatness one last time. I think that'll be cool." Pittsburgh is hopeful that Rodgers can channel this "greatness" one last time — potentially leading to the Steelers' first playoff win since the 2016 season.
