Raid all 136 Congress MLAs instead of few: Karnataka Minister over ED summons to DK Suresh

India Gazette5 hours ago

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 17 (ANI): Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao on Tuesday lashed out at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) over summons issued against former Congress leader DK Suresh and said that they should raid all 136 party MLAs in the state instead of 'summoning a few'.
'We don't expect anything different from the ED. Instead of summoning a few MLAs, they might as well raid all 136 Congress MLAs. This is becoming a joke. We all know what the ED is about, so all of us have to be prepared whether they (ED or IT) come to our houses,' Rao told ANI.
Labelling the ED's action as 'vindictive politics,' the Karnataka Minister alleged that the previous government also tried to 'use' investigative agencies for political purposes. However, he added that such uses have become 'open and blatant.'
'This is vindictive politics. Earlier also, every government tried to use some agency for political purposes, but now it has become open and blatant--there's no faith left,' Rao said.
Earlier in the day, ED summoned former Congress MP DK Suresh for questioning in connection with an alleged fraud case involving Aishwarya Gowda.
Gowda, who claimed to be Suresh's sister, was arrested by the ED on April 24 for her alleged involvement in a money laundering case.
The ED officials had initially asked Suresh to appear at their office on Thursday, June 19, at 11 AM, but Suresh has requested to defer his appearance to June 23.
Earlier, the probe agency stated that its officials had conducted searches at 14 locations related to the accused woman, Aishwarya Gowda and her accomplices and seized various incriminating materials valued at approximately Rs 2.25 crore.
In a post on X dated April 26, the probe agency posted, 'ED Bengaluru has arrested Ms Aishwarya Gowda, under PMLA, 2002, on April 24, for being found involved in the offence of money laundering. After the arrest, she was produced before the Special Court (PMLA), and the Court was pleased to grant ED custody of the accused for 14 days.'
The ED further mentioned that the searches, carried out on April 24 and 25 under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, led to the seizure of incriminating documents, digital devices, and cash.
'ED also conducted search operations at 14 locations related to Aishwarya Gowda and her accomplices on April 24 and 25, 2025, under the provisions of the PMLA, 2002. During the search operations, various incriminating documents, digital devices, and cash to the tune of approximately Rs 2.25 crore have been found and seized,' the post further read.
According to reports, the ED arrested Aishwarya Gowda for allegedly engaging in money laundering through multiple cases of swindling wealthy individuals in Karnataka by exploiting connections to top political leaders in the state.
Gowda allegedly posed as the sister of Karnataka Congress leader DK Suresh and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to gain access to wealthy doctors and businessmen. Last year, the Bengaluru police booked her in several cases of cheating. (ANI)

'Battle Has Begun': Khamenei After Trump's Threats Of Possible US Attack Amid Conflict

Last Updated: Khamenei announced that the battle has begun, after US President Donald Trump stated that the US knows where Khamenei is hiding amid the Iran-Israel conflict. Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Wednesday, in a message on X, wrote that the battle has begun. 'In the name of Nami, the battle begins. Ali returns to Khaybar with his Zulfiqar," a translation of his post suggested. Khamenei's post came hours after US President Donald Trump said Tuesday the US knows where Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei is hiding during the Israel-Iran conflict but doesn't want him killed 'for now." Trump urged, in a social media posting, Iran's 'UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER" as the five-day conflict continues to escalate. 'We know exactly where the so-called Supreme Leader is hiding," Trump said. 'He is an easy target, but is safe there – We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now. But we don't want missiles shot at civilians or American soldiers. Our patience is wearing thin." Trump added. Before his social media post, Trump had urged Tehran's 9.5 million residents to flee for their lives as he cut short his participation in an international summit to return to Washington for urgent talks with his national security team. The comments about Khamenei and calls for surrender came shortly after Trump, in a separate posting, touted complete control of the skies over Tehran. Trump, in the opening days of the conflict, rejected a plan presented by Israel to kill Khamenei, news agency ANI quoted a US official as saying. The Israelis had informed the Trump administration that they had developed a credible plan to kill Khamenei. However, White House officials informed the Israelis that Trump opposed such a move. Administration officials were concerned that the plan to kill Khamenei could enflame the conflict and potentially destabilise the region. Trump returned to the White House from his abbreviated trip to the Group of Seven summit in the Canadian Rockies early Tuesday. Israel, with five days of missile strikes, has done considerable damage to Iran and believes it can now deal a permanent blow to Tehran's nuclear program, particularly if it gets a little more help from the Republican President. IT, ITES sectors to benefit the most with 10-hour shifts

Among the biggest beneficiaries of the amendment being proposed to the Karnataka Shops and Commercial Establishment Act, 1961, will be hundreds of companies in the Information Technology and Information Technology-Enabled Services (IT & ITES) sectors offering software services, backend IT services and hardware sales, among others. The State government has proposed to increase the daily working hours to 10 from the current nine hours, besides allowing more overtime hours. A meeting is being held on Wednesday to discuss the proposals. 'The amendment will legitimise the violation of working hours that is already happening in the sector,' said Meenakshi Sundaram, general secretary, CITU, Karnataka, calling it at attempt to 'legalise the illegal act'. Succumbing to pressure Trade unions argued that this was being pushed by the Centre. Mr. Sundaram, said, 'It is unfortunate that the Congress government is not trying to establish a different policy from that of the BJP government. It is succumbing to the pressure of the Centre and compromising the basic rights of the citizens of Karnataka.' Pointing out to a similar exercise by the State government for the factory workers in the State, he said that this would only reduce employment generating potential while helping only profit making. 'Their idea of to keep shops and establishments for long hours hoping to increase the turnover. However, people do not have purchasing capacity. Instead, the government should work towards increasing the income of people.' Mr. Sundaram said that the government has allowed simplification of record maintenance, certification and book maintenance among others. The absence of a strict compliance and monitoring, AITUC State secretary M. Satyananda said, could lead to 'wage theft' where employers could force employees to work for longer hours without increasing wages. 'How can the Labour Department, which faces staff shortage, inspect thousands of commercial establishments? There will be no mechanism to monitor. Increasing hours would reduce the rest period for workers as well,' he said. 'Ease of doing business' Taking a contrary view, president of Karnataka Employers' Association B.C. Prabhakar said that it would help in 'ease of doing business' by exempting establishments employing less than 10 persons from submitting documents. 'In Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Uttarakhand, the exemption for submitting annual returns has been exempted to establishments that hire less than 20 persons,' said Mr. Prabhakar. He said that increase in the cap for daily working hours and extra overtime is a 'progressive measure.' 'It legitimises what is already going on,' he said.
