Ludhiana MC chief appeals residents to pay pending property tax by Aug 31
MC commissioner Dachalwal held a meeting with the concerned officials regarding the recovery of pending property tax in MC Zone D office in Sarabha Nagar on Monday.
The officials have been directed to reach out to the public at large and spread awareness among them, so that they can avail maximum benefit of the policy and submit the pending tax without any penalty.
MC additional commissioner Paramdeep Singh, joint commissioner-cum-zonal commissioner (Zone D) Abhishek Sharma, assistant commissioner-cum-zonal commissioner (Zone A and B) Neeraj Jain, assistant commissioner-cum-zonal commissioner (Zone C) Gurpal Singh, zonal superintendents among other officials were present in the meeting.
The civic body officials stated that the property tax has to be paid on a self-assessment basis every year. If the property owner fails to pay the property tax, a 20 percent penalty and 18 percent annual interest on the pending amount is charged by the civic body.
Under this OTS policy, the residents can now submit the pending tax by August 31, 2025 without any penalty or interest. The pending tax can be submitted at the suvidha kendras situated in the zonal offices of the civic body.
Dachalwal appealed to the residents to avail the facility and submit the pending property tax without penalty and interest by August 31, 2025.
Later, MC commissioner Dachalwal also held a meeting with the building branch officials wherein the concerned assistant town planners (ATP) of all the four zones were directed to expedite the recovery of dues from the residents. Further they were also directed to act strict against illegal constructions.

Gurpreet Mehdoodan, divisional president of the Punjab State Electricity Board Employees Federation, said, 'Significant delays in electricity-related tasks are persistent across Ludhiana city, with residents typically facing waits of around four months. After submitting an application, the department takes time to release a serial number due to glitches in the online portal, which further adds to the delay.' Mehdoodan added that the surge in applications following the government's waiver of NOC requirements for small plot holders, combined with staff shortages, has further compounded the problem. 'From December to March, routine applications increased by over 60%, but the department lacked enough staff to cater to these applications request ,' he said. At present, the department is relying on its outsourced workers to install electricity meters who are already grappled with fault repairs and maintenance duties. As a result, it gets difficult to managed these installations, he added. Additionally, senior officials pointed to the rise in double or triple meters in single households following the state government's free 600 unit scheme as another factor contributing to delays. With the growing use of cooling appliances, many consumers are now requesting load extensions from 1 KW to 3 KW, adding to the department's workload, they added. When contacted, chief engineer Jagdev Hans assured that efforts are underway to clear the backlog. 'We are working to process applications as quickly as possible. The delays largely stem from illegal meter scam unearthed in Aggar Nagar division, prompting JEs who look after these tasks to go on strike. Now, the process is back on track,' he said.

Deadline of tax settlement scheme extended again
Ludhiana: The deadline for the one-time settlement scheme for property tax dues has been extended for the third time, allowing residents to pay their outstanding dues without any interest and penalty until the end of August. The civic body has so far collected Rs 19 crore from outstanding dues under this scheme. However, against the annual property tax target of Rs 160 crore for this fiscal, the MC officials have collected Rs 43 crore until now. The officials claimed they will increase the pace of recovery of dues in the coming month when people clear the tax for this fiscal to avail of a 10% rebate. The PGs and migrant quarters are on the radar of the MC teams, as checking is ongoing in some areas to catch hold of the defaulters. The OTS was launched on May 15, and the defaulters were given time until July 31 to pay up. The deadline was extended to Aug 15 and now to August 31. The officials claimed they have sent teams for checking in areas like BRS Nagar, Rajguru Nagar, and the backyard of the DC office complex, where commercial activities have increased. MC superintendent Vivek Verma said, "The govt is giving a chance to the defaulters to clear their dues without any interest and penalty, and it the payment deadline has been extended for the third time. Adobe is introducing a new platform that weaves together Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Express and artificial intelligence (AI) automation in a single window, the idea being to consolidate PDF documents, web pages and multiple tools into a hub. Adobe envisions Acrobat Studio, which also spawns its own subscription, as a collective that allows users to find value from creating specific workplaces where PDFs form the foundation of conversational knowledge hubs, with customisable AI Assistants to draw information, answers or recommendations alongside the company's Express creativity platform, PDF management tools, and the Firefly AI powered image and video generation options.
