World's Longest And Heaviest Train: 8 Engines, 682 Wagons And 5,648 Wheels
Indian Railways has successfully run the country's longest train, 'Rudrastra', setting a new record on the tracks. This massive freight train is 4.5 km long, made up of 354 wagons, and powered by seven locomotives working in unison.
'Rudrastra' began its journey from Ganj Khwaja station in Uttar Pradesh and travelled to Garhwa Road Junction in Jharkhand, covering a distance of around 200 km in just five hours.
Its sheer length and power have made it a talking point among rail enthusiasts. But while 'Rudrastra' is India's longest train, do you know which is the longest train in the world?
The title belongs to the Australian BHP Iron Ore Train, a freight train operating in Australia. Measuring a staggering 7.3 km in length, it consists of 682 wagons and is so long that 22 Eiffel Towers placed end-to-end could fit along its length. Pulling such a massive load requires far more than one or two engines; in fact, the BHP Iron Ore Train is powered by eight locomotives.
With a total of 5,648 wheels, it holds the Guinness World Record for being not only the longest but also the heaviest train in the world, weighing over 100,000 tonnes. It carries 99,734 tonnes of iron ore from Yandi Mine to Port Hedland, covering a 275 km route in about 10 hours.
The train is named after its purpose, transporting iron ore for BHP, one of the world's largest mining companies. It first ran on June 21, 2001, and has been a marvel of heavy freight transportation ever since.
What makes it even more impressive is its ultra-modern control system. The lead locomotive's driver can operate all eight engines simultaneously, even though they are positioned at intervals of up to a kilometre apart along the length of the train. This coordination allows the train to move smoothly despite its massive size and weight.

IndiGo stands ready to resume flights to China: CEO Pieter Elbers
Agency: New Delhi, Aug 13 (PTI) IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers on Wednesday said the airline stands ready to resume direct flights between India and China. On Tuesday, people familiar with the matter said India and China are in an 'advanced stage" of negotiations to resume direct flights between the two countries soon. Elbers said IndiGo operated daily flights between India and China prior to the coronavirus pandemic. 'The airline stands ready to resume these services as soon as bilateral arrangements between the two countries allow," he said in a statement on Wednesday. Elbers also said that guided by its entrepreneurial spirit, the airline remains committed to identifying and pursuing commercially viable opportunities. IndiGo was operating daily flights from Delhi to Chengdu till February 6, 2020, and from Kolkata to Guangzhou till February 1, 2020. Direct flights were operational between the two countries till early 2020 before getting suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. Both Indian and Chinese carriers had direct services. The services remained suspended in view of the eastern Ladakh border row. Air India also had flights from Delhi to Shanghai, and those were also suspended in early 2020. On January 27 this year, India and China in principle agreed to resume direct air services between the two countries as part of certain people-centric steps to 'stabilise and rebuild" the bilateral ties. Arunachal: 51-ft Parashuram statue in Lohit to be called Statue of Strength
Itanagar, Aug 13 (PTI) Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Wednesday announced that the 51-foot under-construction statue of Lord Parashuram at Parashuram Kund in Lohit district will be officially called the 'Statue of Strength'. He said the project, being developed through the combined efforts of the state government, VIPRA Foundation, and local communities, is on track for inauguration in November or December this year, an official statement said here. Mein, who inspected the site at Wakro in the district during the day, highlighted that under the Riverfront Development Project, several infrastructure upgrades were underway, including safe bathing facilities, structural protection work, and improved public amenities to make Parashuram Kund both a revered pilgrimage centre and a vibrant tourism destination. Despite recent flood damage, expert-led redesigns are being implemented to enhance safety, accessibility, and visitor experience. The deputy chief minister also chaired a coordination meeting with the Lohit district administration, chief engineers, departmental heads, and public leaders to discuss plans for transforming the site into a major pilgrimage and tourism hub. Discussions covered security enhancements, IT facilities, riverfront protection, and management strategies for mega events. Valuable suggestions were shared to ensure the site's long-term preservation. Reaffirming the state government's commitment, Mein said efforts will focus on protecting the sanctity of Parashuram Kund while unlocking its potential as a spiritual and cultural landmark for future generations.
