Separatist militants in northeastern India said the Indian army carried out cross-border drone strikes on the group's camps in neighbouring Myanmar on Sunday, killing three of its leaders.
Some separatist groups in northeastern India have ethnic, linguistic and cultural ties with minorities across the border in Myanmar and maintain a presence there.
A top commander of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) was killed and 19 others wounded in a drone attack in Myanmar near the border, the separatist group said in a series of statements.
"Two more senior commanders were killed" in subsequent strikes, the ULFA said, adding: "Several other members and civilians were also wounded."
Indian authorities have yet to confirm the strikes.
Camps belonging to another separatist group, the People's Liberation Army, were also targeted, the ULFA added. The ULFA is one of several insurgent groups in India, and wants independence for the northeastern state of Assam, while the PLA advocates for the secession of Manipur state.

India's Modi renews ties with Maldives

MALÉ: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrapped up a visit to the Maldives on Saturday, renewing ties by offering infrastructure projects and vital financial assistance to the cash-strapped Indian Ocean nation. Regional powerhouse India had been concerned that its small, yet strategically located neighbour was drifting towards the orbit of its rival China following the 2023 election of President Mohamed Muizzu on an anti-India platform. Since coming to office, Muizzu has secured the withdrawal of a small contingent of Indian military personnel who operated search-and-rescue aircraft in the archipelago. But he has since toned down his anti-India rhetoric, and on Friday he touted the two nations' collaboration on security and trade. Modi announces $565-million credit line for debt-plagued Maldives 'India has long stood as the Maldives' closest and most trusted partner,' Muizzu said in a banquet speech alongside Modi, whom he met with twice last year. 'We deeply value the friendship of India and are grateful for the timely assistance your country has extended to us in moments of need,' Muizzu added. Shortly after his arrival on Friday, Modi unveiled a $565 million credit line for the Maldives, which is facing a severe foreign exchange shortage despite its thriving tourism industry. India also reduced annual repayments of an earlier credit line from $51 million to $29 million, and the two sides discussed a potential free-trade agreement. Muizzu said the new credit line would bolster the Maldives' security forces, and improve healthcare, housing and education. During his two-day trip, Modi also inaugurated a new defence ministry headquarters and several India-funded infrastructure projects, including roads and a 4,000-unit housing scheme. Modi's visit had set 'a clear path for the future of Maldives-India relations', Muizzu wrote on X on Saturday as the Indian leader left the capital Male after 60th Independence Day celebrations. 'Our relationship continues to grow, shaped by people-to-people ties and cooperation in various sectors,' Modi wrote in his own post on X. 'India remains committed to supporting the aspirations of the Maldivian people.' Known for its luxury tourism and pristine beaches, the Maldives is also a geopolitical hotspot, with key global shipping lanes passing through its 1,192 islands, stretching across 800 kilometres (500 miles) of the equator. China and India are the Maldives' two largest bilateral lenders.

Indian team gets ‘green light' to play against Pakistan in Asia Cup

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has finally 'given' the green light to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), paving the way for the Indian cricket team to play matches against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025, Aaj News reported. Eight teams will participate in the event, including Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Hong Kong. According to Indian media, there were some differences between India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, which have now been resolved amicably, after which major obstacles to the tournament plan have been removed. Speaking to media after the ACC Annual General Meeting on July 24 , Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi had said discussions with the BCCI were ongoing and expressed confidence that all matters related to the Asia Cup 2025 will be resolved soon. 'The environment was positive and constructive. No one wants politics; we are all here to work for cricket,' Naqvi had said. ACC annual meeting, which was chaired by the ACC president and attended by all 25 members in Dhaka, Bangladesh, had approved the tournament calendar for 2025–2026, 'in line with ACC's sustained commitment to high-quality cricketing opportunities across its member countries,' the ACC had said in a press release. Asia Cup 2025 to be held from September 9-28 in UAE, Mohsin Naqvi confirms In a significant late development, the BCCI had chosen to participate in the ACC Annual General Meeting virtually, reversing its earlier position amid ongoing political tensions in the region. Indian media had previously reported that the board might skip the meeting due to strained diplomatic ties with Bangladesh and Pakistan. India currently holds the official hosting rights for the 2025 edition of the Asia Cup. However, given the sensitivities involved, particularly following heightened military tensions between India and Pakistan in May, hosting the event in the UAE was floated as a compromise. The Indian media even reported last month that the board had decided to pull out of the tournament - a rumour soon rejected by the BCCI officials. Meanwhile, Naqvi on Saturday confirmed dates for the Asia Cup 2025, saying the tournament will take place from September 9 to 28. Whereas, in his statement on social media account X, Naqvi said detailed schedule of the Asia Cup will be released soon.
