My Hero Academia Reveals the Surprising Truth About Shigaraki's True Quirk—Like It's Really Sad
Credit- Fandom
Spoilers below, but My Hero Academia fans just discovered a heartbreaking fact about one of the series' most prominent villains, Tomura Shigaraki. His original quirk had never meant to be violent and it should have afforded him a comfortable life.
My Hero Academia — one of the most popular and critically acclaimed anime / manga series in recent years — takes place in a world where nearly every human has a special power known as a Quirk.

Some of them are able to use them to turn themselves into heroes, and some of them into villains. One of the central antagonists, Tomura Shigaraki, is infamous for his fearsome Decay quirk, which disintegrates anything he comes in contact with.
In a recently uncovered turn, Shigaraki was never intended to receive this kind of power. Indeed, he had a very different quirk from the get-go—one that actually made him connected to his prodigious haikujin gran, Nana Shimura.
Shigaraki's original quirk was completely peaceful
In the My Hero Academia Ultra Archive art book, Even as series creator Kohei Horikoshi was planning it, Shigaraki's original quirk had no connection to decay at all. Instead, it was a floating-type ability like Nana Shimura's 'Float' quirk.

As explained on Twitter by Horikoshi, the 'ring' energy that we see floating around All For One during their final fight was actually inspired by Tenko Shimura's original quirk—before it was forcibly taken and altered. All that means Shigaraki could have had the soft, non-violent power and perhaps even walked in his grandmother's heroic footsteps.
All For One took it all away
The true archvillain of this calamity sits outside of it — All For One, the nefarious supervillain fond of mind control and nightmares in My Hero Academia. He didn't just raise Tenko to be a villain. He orchestrated his whole life, starting by stealing his original quirk and replacing it with the destructive Decay.
All For One had a decades-old vendetta against Nana Shimura and used her grandson as a tool in his scheme. He went so far as to orchestrate Tenko's birth just so he could raise him to be the ideal vessel for his wicked aspirations. It's one of the cruellest reminders that Shigaraki never wanted to be a villain. He was shaped into one.
What could have been: A life with family, not tragedy
In this other universe, Tenko Shimura would've retained his floating quirk, remained near his loved ones, and possibly even grown up to become a hero himself. Rather than achieving his desired goal of gaining useful control over his new destructive quirk, All For One's interference only worsened things, resulting in the horrific death of his entire family while he was still a child.
This traumatic moment shattered Tenko's spirit and psyche, and started his transformation into the dangerous and nihilistic Shigaraki we know and love today. Considering the truth that we know now, it's so painfully clear that he was a victim, not just a perpetrator.
The losing battle over jurisdiction
In fact, during the final arc of the manga, this is precisely what Shigaraki attempts to do—push All For One out of his body. The two are locked in an ongoing psychological war, with Shigaraki attempting to retake control of his personal narrative and his existence. Understanding that All For One actively concealed Shigaraki's true quirk from him makes this backstory all the sadder, as it adds an extra layer of betrayal.
Final thoughts: A villain made, not born
This reveal completely changes how fans see Shigaraki. He's not just a villain with a dangerous quirk—he's a manipulated child, robbed of his future and family. My Hero Academia has always blurred the lines between good and evil, but this twist makes it clearer than ever: Shigaraki's story is a tragedy born from another man's evil.
Where to read and watch My Hero Academia
You can catch My Hero Academia on Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Netflix. The manga is available officially through VIZ Media and Shonen Jump apps. The final season is currently in production, and fans can expect more emotional reveals as the series wraps up.

Dark clouds fail to deter the spirits of people at Red Fort on the 79th Independence Day

The 79th Independence Day programme, themed around 'Naya Bharat' and Operation Sindoor, took place on Friday (August 15, 2025) morning under overcast skies. The grey skies and intermittent rainfall, however, did not dampen the spirits of those in the audience as they cheered during the 103-minute speech by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Red Fort. The guests ranged from the Indian contingent of Special Olympics 2025 and village sarpanches to beneficiaries of the Lakhpati Didi scheme and best-performing interns under the PM internship scheme. Before the PM unfurled the national flag at 7.30 a.m., it began raining, leading many to cover up with raincoats provided at the venue. A pop of colour appeared in the grey skies when Indian Air Force helicopters showered flower petals on the audience, and when Tiranga balloons were released in the air. The children in the audience ran around the venue to collect the petals that were being showered and cheered as the balloons were seen floating in the sky. Rohit Singh, 38, a private sector employee who keeps traveling between Lucknow and Delhi, said the rain did not matter, as it was his first time attending the Independence Day function. 'The entire programme was systematic and it instilled a patriotic feeling. It is special because my five-year-old daughter was excited and enjoyed the programme.' For his daughter, Samriddhi Singh, 5, who collected flower petals from the floor and kept it in her pocket, the most memorable part of the programme was the 'shower of flower petals'. Also Read | Independence Day highlights Sitting in the visitor's section, Neha Yadav (24) from Faridabad, exclaimed how attending the larger than live event has always been a far fetched dream. 'None of us ever thought we could hear the Prime Minister's address from the Red Fort, but when my nephew, a student at Delhi University arranged passes for us, I was ecstatic,' she said. While visitors shared their joy of being able to be part of the event, those like the sportspersons and Lakhpati didis who received invites as the special guests for the celebration expressed sheer joy and sentimentality. Speaking to The Hindu, Bhawna Yadav (36), a beneficiary of the Lakhpati didi scheme and drone, exclaimed how receiving a special invitation made her labour feel recognised. 'I have been working as a Banking correspondent for 4 years and operating a drone for a year to spray crops, but being selected as a special guest from my state has made me feel that my labour is recognised,' she said. For Heena Rajgur, a sportsperson from Gujarat who practices Yogasana, the journey from seeing the event on television to being a special guest for the event has been joyous and special. 'My family would always huddle near our television to watch the Prime Minister deliver the Independence Day speech, and now to be invited for the event has been an emotional journey,' said Ms. Rajgur. As the Prime Minister's speech ended, he made his way from the podium to the enclosure where several NCC cadet members were seated. Walking in a saffron turban, Mr. Modi crossed the sea of white and try-colour uniform wearing cadets and interacted with them. A group of three NCC cadets, Rosa, Himanshi and Swati, from Zakir Hussain Delhi College said that PM addressing Operation Sindoor made them feel 'patriotic'. One of them, Himanshi Bisht, 19, said, 'Our favourite part of the programme was when the PM mentioned GST reforms.' Another student, Prachi Nanda Thakur, 20, said, 'The PM stopped by and told us 'How could I leave without meeting you all?' It was a good feeling.' Meanwhile, Harshita Dargan, 18, a B Tech student, said, 'We were glad to hear the PM speak about technology and the future of India.' Band performances were conducted by the bands of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Indian Coast Guard, NCC, CRPF, ITBP, CISF, SSB, BSF, IDS, RPF and Assam Rifles at over 140 prominent locations throughout the country. Meanwhile, to commemorate the Independence Day celebration, the Capital had been fortified with the deployment of over 11,000 security forces and 3,000 traffic police to ensure the safety of the attendees of the high-profile event. Commercial vehicles were prohibited from entering the city for a day in advance several special teams were deployed for round-the-clock monitoring. Surveillance was also done through CCTV cameras, drone detection systems and facial recognition systems.

Ravichandran Ashwin praises Basil Joseph; calls 'Sookshmadarshini' 'Outstanding'; Read more

(Picture Courtesy: Facebook) Cricket star Ravichandran Ashwin recently turned the spotlight on Malayalam cinema , showering praise on actor Basil Joseph for his daring role in the thriller 'Sookshmadarshini'. 'What a film! How many people have the courage to do that role… Outstanding,' Ashwin exclaimed, clearly impressed by Basil's performance. He even asked his friend Sanju to personally convey his admiration to the actor. Fans of both cricket and movies were thrilled to see Ashwin celebrate talent outside the pitch, showing a softer, more cinematic side of the cricketer. Ashwin is no stranger to conversations that go beyond cricket. As host of his YouTube show Kutti Stories with Ash, he brings guests into a world of lighthearted banter. It was during the show, the ace cricketer praised Basil Joseph's performance in the suspense thriller movie 'Sookshmadarshini'. Sookshmadarshini's thrills continue Released last year, 'Sookshmadarshini' quickly made its mark with audiences, starring Basil Joseph alongside Nazriya Nazim, Deepak Parambol, and Akhila Bhargavan. The thriller follows Manuel, who returns with his mother to their old home in a middle-class neighborhood. Suspicious of his motives, Priyadarshini and her friends set out to uncover what he might be hiding. The story takes a dark turn as Priyadarshini unveils the secret of her new neigbhbour. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Dubai villas | search ads Get Deals Undo Sookshmadarshini - Official Trailer ETimes gave 'Sookshmadarshini' a rating of 4 stars out of 5 and an excerpt from our official review read, "Writers Libin TB and Athul Ramachandran have cleverly deconstructed a situation and rebuilt it into a cinematic plot from a very novel perspective, which is basically about attitudes and acceptance. One drawback that can be pointed out is with the characterisation. Why is Priyadarshini's character so invested in the problem of Manuel's mother, to an almost annoying extent? Her skepticism could have been explained as some cute character trait from the beginning. Of course, Nazriya brings her easy charm, combined with an admirable maturity to the role. All the other actors, Kottayam Ramesh, Aathira Rajeev, Manohari Joy, and particularly Sidharth Bharathan, who brings an understated comedic energy to his role, make great contributions to the intricate layers of the film." The movie had a clear inspiration from Alfred Hitchcock films and received immense praise. "Get the latest news updates on Times of India, including reviews of the movie Coolie and War 2 ."
