Does Rahul realise his statements are used by Pakistan against India: Shrikant Shinde
Shiv Sena leader Shrikant Shinde has slammed former Congress president Rahul Gandhi for his "surrender barb" at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over Operation Sindoor and wondered whether he realised that his statements were being used by Pakistan against India.
Mr. Shinde, who led a multi-party delegation to four countries in West Asia and West Africa, also said that 'Gandhi should learn from Congress leaders Shashi Tharoor and Salman Khurshid how to put up a united fight against terrorism.'
The Sena leader's remarks came in response to Mr. Gandhi's comment claiming that Prime Minister Modi surrendered before the U.S. and agreed to end the hostilities with Pakistan after the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam.
"Such language does not suit him [Rahul Gandhi]. He should realise that Pakistan is using his statements against India. The entire country is watching whether he is speaking in favour of India or against India," Mr. Shinde told PTI Videos.
On the politics playing out in India over Operation Sindoor, Mr. Shinde said 'Congress leaders were speaking against the government and Prime Minister Modi only to keep themselves relevant.'
"They should learn from [Shashi] Tharoor, [Salman] Khurshid, and others on how to present India's case before the world. How we all should be united in the fight against terrorism and not indulge in politics all the time," Mr. Shinde said.
Opposition leaders have been demanding a special session of Parliament to discuss Operation Sindoor, particularly after claims by U.S. President Donald Trump of mediating to avert a nuclear war between India and Pakistan.
Mr. Shinde said, 'During this visit to Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Congo, he realised that the West African nations were not aware of the gravity of the problems between India and Pakistan.'
He said most of the conflicts in Africa were among ethnic communities and natural resources such as gold, diamonds and other minerals and the leaders wondered whether the issue of Jammu and Kashmir was about similar treasures.
"Kashmir is the treasure of India," Mr. Shinde recalled having told African leaders.

In a post on X, the grand-old party leader summarised the key points of an article he wrote for The Indian Express, where he described the so-called electoral manipulation. In his article, Gandhi outlined a five-step process he claimed was used to tilt the Maharashtra election. 'Step 1: Rig the panel for appointing the Election Commission Step 2: Add fake voters to the roll Step 3: Inflate voter turnout Step 4: Target the bogus voting exactly where BJP needs to win Step 5: Hide the evidence," the Leader of Opposition wrote in his post. 'It's not hard to see why the BJP was so desperate in Maharashtra," Gandhi wrote in his post. 'But rigging is like match-fixing – the side that cheats might win the game, but damages institutions and destroy public faith in the result." 'All concerned Indians must see the evidence. Judge for themselves. Demand answers," Gandhi added. He also warned that what happened in Maharashtra could be repeated elsewhere. Congress never flagged discrepancies: EC sources on Rahul Gandhi's charge of rigging in Maharashtra poll
Underscoring that match-fixed elections are a "poison" for any democracy, Gandhi wrote that the side that cheats may win the game, but it damages institutions and destroys public faith. In a post on X, the Congress leader outlined the alleged electoral irregularities in a stepwise manner -- fake voters added, the voter turnout inflated, bogus voting facilitated and evidence subsequently hidden. Rejecting the claims, the sources underlined that 6,40,87,588 (over 6.4 crore) voters who reached the polling stations between 7 am and 6 pm exercised their franchise in the Maharashtra polls. About 58 lakh votes, on an average, were polled every hour, they said. Going by the average trend, nearly 1.16 crore voters could have voted in the last two hours, the sources added. "Therefore, the casting of 65 lakh votes by electors in two hours is much below the average hourly voting trend," an EC functionary pointed out. The sources noted that the voting progressed in the presence of the polling agents formally appointed by the candidates or political parties at every polling booth. The Congress candidates or their authorised agents had not raised "any substantiated allegation" regarding any kind of abnormal voting at the time of scrutiny before the returning officers and election observers the next day, they pointed out. On the issue of alleged fudging of electoral data, the sources said voter lists in India, including in Maharashtra, were prepared according to the Representation of the People Act, 1950 and the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960. According to the laws, either just before an election or once every year, a special summary revision of the electoral rolls is conducted and its final copy handed over to all national or state political parties. After the finalisation of the electoral rolls for the Maharashtra election, as against the 9,77,90,752 (over 9. 77 crore) electors, only 89 appeals were filed before the first appellate authority -- the district magistrate concerned -- and only one was filed before the second appellate authority -- the state chief electoral officer. "Therefore, it is amply clear that there was no grievance of the Congress or any other political party before the conduct of the Maharashtra Assembly election in 2024," the EC functionary said. During the voter-list revision, for more than one lakh polling booths, along with the 97,325 booth-level officers appointed by the electoral registration officers, 1,03,727 (over 1.03 lakh) booth-level agents were also appointed by all political parties. These included the 27,099 booth-level agents appointed by the Congress. The sources said more than one lakh booth-level officers of Maharashtra are still waiting for such "wild allegations" to be converted into at least one single real appeal before district magistrates in accordance with the election law against discrepancies in the voters' list.
