Ed Sheeran shares throwback snap with Taylor Swift and reflects on copyright trial in nostalgic Instagram post ahead of releasing 'emotional' new single Old Phone

Daily Mail29-04-2025

Ed Sheeran has shared a series of throwback snaps to Instagram, including a fun selfie with Taylor Swift, while also reflecting on his copyright trial.
The singer, 34, has launched a new Instagram account to celebrate his 'emotional' upcoming single Old Phone.
The account features a number of never-before-seen pictures, texts, and lyric notes, and comes ahead of the release of his new single on Thursday April 29.
Ed was inspired to write the new song when revisiting his old phone during the copyright lawsuit around his hit single Thinking Out Loud.
At the time Ed denied he had ripped off Marvin Gaye's soul classic Let's Get it On for his 2014 hit song, and in 2023 was cleared of this in court.
Explaining the new account, Ed penned in a new Instagram post: 'Put the sound on and have a listen. I got rid of my phone 2015, and moved onto email full time. I just turned my phone off December '15 and that was it.
'When I got sued, the judge ordered me to give up my old devices to the other sides lawyers, to look through messages, emails, voice notes, videos, etc, to see if there was anything on there to help their case. In the process, I switched on my old phone.
'The first message was from my friend Jamal Edwards, who had recently passed away. The second was from my ex girlfriend who I hadn't been in contact with for years. The third was a family member I haven't spoken to in a decade. And so on.'
Ed shared pictures with pals including Taylor and the late Jamal Edwards, with the musician admitting looking through the phone made him emotional for a number of reasons.
Ed continued: 'It felt like a time capsule, a time of life that I was in, and living at that time in 2015. Turning it on really spun me out, I found myself scrolling messages and conversations with people who are no longer here.
'I found myself crying at messages to friends who are now dead, who I won't get to speak to again. I found old photos of me with people I was so close to then, but we've lost touch since.
'The whole experience was such an emotional journey. I wrote the song Old Phone on my own at 2am whilst jet lagged in India finishing the album, and recorded it that morning. It feels like a song that should've been on my debut album, but also a song I couldn't have written until I experienced real life things happening to me.'
Speaking on the meaningful new song, Ed added: 'It makes me emotional to sing, I hope it finds some emotion in you too. Maybe it makes you switch on your old phone and have a look at where you were a decade ago too. Whatever it does, I'm glad I wrote it. Old Phone, out Thursday 11am EDT / 4pm BST'
It comes after Ed surprised Londoners with a lunchtime performance outside of King's Cross station.
The singer was dressed in a vibrant pink T-shirt as he set up in front of a backdrop of a large pink heart emblazoned with the word 'Azizam' in white - the name of his new song.
Fans were delighted as Ed played his acoustic guitar and belted out hit songs including Shape Of You, Perfect and Bad Habits.
It followed a morning of promotions for the singer, as he travelled around the capital on a pink double-decker bus to celebrate his upcoming eighth studio album.
It isn't the first time that Ed has surprised commuters with an impromptu performance at a train station.
In November, Ed shocked passers by as they appeared out of a large Sky Broadband platform set up in the train station.
Earlier that day, Ed revealed he had to have an awkward conversation with Elton John about how he often mispronounces his name, even though the two have known each other for 15 years.
Ed joined Capital Breakfast's Jordan North , Chris Stark, and Sian Welby to discuss his new single Azizam, which was released on the same day, as well as his upcoming eighth studio album.

During the interview, the presenters wanted to know Ed's thoughts on Elton frequently mispronouncing his name and shared a video of Elton doing so.
Kicking off the conversation, Chris said: 'Got to ask you this, right? So we went to Elton John's house this week… We need to settle something. Have a listen to this.
He then played an audio clip of Elton from a Capital interview where he said: 'I mean Ed Sheer-an playing in living rooms.'
Ed laughed and admitted that he previously had an 'awkward conversation' with the music legend to clear up how to pronounce his name.
He explained: 'I've actually had the awkward conversation with him being like 'I've known you for 15 years, it's not Sheer-an' but it's just one of those things. I actually have had that conversation.'
Chris responded: 'You can't argue with him can you.' to which Ed replied: 'Well I can, I can and I do, but, but I don't know it's quite nice…'
Jordan then added: 'It's kind of like when your nan just says something, and you know she said it wrong and you just have to go with it haven't you.'
Admitting that he will always be 'Ed Sheer-an' to Elton, Ed chimed in: 'And it's just his way, it's like how my parents always call me Edward, I'm not Ed to them, always Edward and I'll always be Ed Sheer-an to Elton.'
Elsewhere during the interview, Ed revealed the title of his next single and shared that he plans to release a new song every month until his album is out.
When discussing Azizam and what fans should expect from the upcoming album, Ed said: 'More of the same. It's like more playful. The next song coming out is a bit more classic me.
He continued: 'I guess it's like a sad, acoustic, upbeat. It's called Old Phone which comes out in like a month. Basically, I'm going to be putting out a song pretty much every month till the record comes.'
The Perfect hitmaker will release his eighth studio album, Play, later this year, and has already dropped the album's first single, Azizam, on April 4.
While a specific release date for Play has not yet been announced, Ed has confirmed that the album will be released sometime in 2025.

Love Island fans spot tell tale signs villa beauty HATED snog with show hunk – did you?

LOVE Island viewers are convinced one Islander was not feeling it whilst snogging a show hunk on the terrace. During Wednesday night's episode, Dejon Noel-Williams, 26, and Megan Forte Clarke, 24, snuck off for a quiet chat - or so their co-stars thought. PT Dejon started the chat, telling musical theatre performer Meg: 'I like the way that things are going.' She replied, 'Yeah, same. I feel the exact same.' But the tension was hard to ignore as she added, 'I feel like we talk… everyone else's f*****g business.' Advertisement Trying to take things to the next level, Dejon asked if she still wanted to share a bed with him, to which she said yes. Then came the kiss - and that's when fans say the red flags really started waving. Before Dejon leaned in, Meg awkwardly asked, 'Oh, you're going to kiss me?' And once the kiss was over, she laughed and said, 'Is that enough?' Advertisement Fans took to Instagram to dissect the painfully awkward moment, with one writing beneath some grabs of the scene: ''Oh ur gonna kiss me' & 'was that enough' – she DID NOT want that." Another added: 'That was so false hahaha she doesn't like him. Her face afterwards said it all.' 'Get him out!' rant Love Island fans after boy's 'scary red flag behaviour' A third agreed: 'SO TRUE she don't like him like that.' ITV2 viewers previously slammed Meg after she made a huge U-turn in bid to stay in the villa. Advertisement And it came just a day after she seemed "underwhelmed" when she chose Dejon in last night's launch. On Monday night, Meg chose Dejon, but when they met for the first time, fans were convinced there was no attraction on either side. In fact, she then went onto tell the rest of the girls later in the episode that she wasn't really "feeling him". But as Tuesday's recoupling loomed, Meg seemed to change her tune. Advertisement In fact when she saw US bombshell Toni chatting to Djon, she was heard saying to her fellow Islanders: 'I don't have my man, Dejon's gone - that's it!' This didn't go unnoticed by fans, who took to social media to vent about her "game plan" One said: "Meg doesn't like Dejon but she's got to secure her place in the Villa, baddd!" While another chimed in: "All Meg is worried about is going home, she don't care about Dejon." Advertisement This one added: "Meg defo has a game plan! "She's being all sweet to Dejon to stay on the show." Later, Dejon and Meg were up on the terrace and Meg continued her fight not to get dumped, and upped her game. So much so, Dejon was heard reassuring her: "You haven't got anything to worry about, you're my favourite, one thing about me is I'll always be honest with my feelings.' Advertisement It comes hot on the heels of viewers venting that Meg had "no interest" in Dejon last night. It came after she looked disappointed when she picked him in the recoupling. Again venting on social media, fans shared their thoughts. "Meg doesn't fancy him at ALL," said one. Advertisement "meg's face changeddd when dejon walked out," said another. A third person added: "Meg is not into Dejon in the SLIGHTEST." "Yeah Meg doesn't like Dejon, he is definitely not her type but she cannot outrightly say it," said a fourth. 4 The pair were coupled up during Sunday's launch Credit: Eroteme Advertisement

Victoria Beckham shares moving message from hubby David at time of family crisis

Victoria Beckham has taken to Instagram to share an adorable message from her husband David amid reports Brooklyn told his parents he 'wants no contact with them' Victoria Beckham has taken to Instagram to share an adorable message from her husband David amid a devastating time for the pair. It comes after the couple's eldest son has been locked in a bitter feud with his family allegedly over wife Nicola Peltz. David and Victoria have put on a brave face throughout the ordeal, having attended a number of events including David Beckham's lavish 50th birthday party last month. Despite the arrival of a number of A-Listers, his eldest son Brooklyn and his wife Nicola were nowhere to be seen. They also failed to acknowledge the star's big day on social media. ‌ Now, Victoria has shared an adorable message from her husband, telling her 32.9 million Instagram followers that he "really does look after me." ‌ Taking to her Instagram story on Thursday morning, the former Spice Girl, 51, posted a picture of her Victoria Beckham Beauty tumbler cup with a pink post-it note stuck on. The message, from David, read: "I Love u... Drink for energy focus + Gut xxx". The star had also drawn a heart on the note. The sweet message comes after it was reported that Brooklyn Beckham's feud with his parents had notched up a devastating gear. Reports suggest he wanted no contact with them and is allegedly ignoring their messages. Last week, it was announced that the former Manchester United player would be receiving a knighthood in the King's Birthday Honours list after years of 'being snubbed'. However, he reportedly didn't tell Brooklyn about the achievement, with him reportedly finding out through the media. Sources close to the 26-year-old told Page Six that he was thrilled his dad was finally receiving the honour. However, another source close to Brooklyn told the publication: "Brooklyn told his family he wants no contact and he's not responding to those that try to connect." ‌ Yet a separate Brooklyn source denied the claim, saying: "This seems to be another deliberate attempt to misrepresent the truth, and it only serves to distract from this honor being bestowed on Brooklyn's father." The Mirror has reached out to Brooklyn and Victoria and David's reps for comment. Last year, the couple celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary by re-wearing their iconic purple outfits, which sent fans into a frenzy in 1999. Fans have been following the couple since 1997, who have never been afraid to show their love towards one another. They can expect to see even more adorable moments from the couple in Victoria's upcoming Netflix docuseries, which will follow her day to day as the creative director of her fashion and beauty brands. Speaking on David's involvement in the series to Bloomberg, Posh Spice said: "Well, he might end up on the cutting-room floor. I mean, who knows?"

Helen Flanagan's dig to ex Scott Sinclair that he's 'getting nothing' for Father's Day

Coronation Street actress Helen, 34, shares kids Matilda, nine, Delilah, six, and four-year-old son Charlie with the former Celtic star. Helen Flanagan has made a subtle swipe at her ex, former Celtic stat Scott Sinclair, in her latest social media post. The single mum-of-three shares kids Matilda, nine, Delilah, six, and four-year-old son Charlie with her former partner. The Corrie star, 34, took to her Instagram page where she shared a humorous meme of Whitney Houston belting out one of her hit singles I Have Nothing, in which the clip selected her rifting the word in the song 'nothing'. ‌ The meme was captioned alongside the audio of, "What are you getting your baby daddy for father's day?," to which Helen had shared the post on her own page alongside a string of laughing emojis. ‌ Elsewhere, the actress has been promoting her new underwear collection. She was delighted to share the news and racy snaps with her followers, which comes just recently after her split with Robbie Talbot. The pair began dating during Helen's stint on Celebs Go Dating, where she was nearly axed from the agency for appearing on the programme despite being romantically involved with Robbie. Helen and Robbie dated briefly following Celebs Go Dating. She is believed to have been keen to have kids with dad-of-two Robbie, with insiders reporting the pair had a "grown-up" conversation when realising their relationship was not progressing. Helen is said to have found it difficult balancing being a full-time mum alongside both her career and relationship expectations. Adding further stress, the actress recently placed her 'forever home' on the market amid rumours of financial pressures. The former I'm A Celebrity star has candidly opened up previously about her struggles with both finances and her mental health. She confessed there was a point where she was left without any money. ‌ Helen previously resided in the eight-bedroom property located in Bolton, Greater Manchester, along with her former partner Scott, 36, and their children, before separating in 2022. In a heartfelt Instagram post in January, she divulged: "My love life was a s**t show.... I didn't look after my mental health. I felt so s**t and sad. I felt like my whole life was f***ed up now and I had the perfect family. 13 years is a long time to be with someone. My whole 20s. I had a lot of family fall-outs too and I also lost basically all my money. Me and Scott weren't married we were engaged. ‌ "My mental health was so bad I thought maybe my kids would be better off without me and maybe they would be better off with their dad as he's more level-headed than me. I love my kids more than words can say, but when you are not well you're not well." Meanwhile, Helen has been busy soaking up the sun in Ibiza as she shared a weekend recap of topping up her tan during a gifted stay. She gushed over the "stunning ocean views" in her luxury apartment, which featured a bath overlooking the Island.
