Nomination submitted by Pete Aitken, exceptional student services science teacher, Desiderata High School.
At 15, Mik Schwickert of Scottsdale has his sights set on the Olympics. The competitive diver describes his ascent modestly: 'I started diving with a recreational program when I was six. Then my brother was in a club program, so I joined him. Then, in 2019, I was a national champion on five meter and three meter.' Countless hours have gone into perfecting his champion-level dives. The three-time Pan American Championship qualifier hopes to earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic team eventually. In the meantime, he's perfecting his form. He earned fifth place and seventh place at the 2024 World Aquatics Junior Diving Championships in Rio de Janeiro. He's also keeping up with his academics. All of the training time makes a traditional school schedule impossible, but Mik is enrolled at ASU Prep Digital, where there's more flexibility and NCAA accreditation means he is well-poised to explore athletic scholarships.
Nomination submitted by Shasta Schrempp, learning success coach, ASU Prep Digital.

Canada's Summer McIntosh breaks own world record in 400-metre individual medley

VICTORIA - Teen sensation Summer McIntosh has broken yet another record at the Canadian Swimming Trials. The 18-year-old from Toronto swam the 400-metre individual medley in four minutes 23.65 seconds, breaking the world record 4:24.38 she set at the Olympic trials in Toronto last May. It's the third time McIntosh has set a new world record at this year's Canadian trials, after she posted a new mark in the 200m individual medley on Monday and in the 400m freestyle on Saturday. She also broke her own Canadian records in the 800m freestyle Sunday, finishing in 8:05.07 — nearly five seconds faster than her previous time — and in the 200m butterfly on Tuesday. McIntosh also holds the world record in the 200m butterfly. She won three golds and one silver at the Paris Olympics last summer, becoming the first Canadian to ever take three golds at a single Games. WATCH: Ohio State football player, staffer compete in three-point shooting contest

WATCH: Ohio State football player, staffer compete in three-point shooting contest In case you haven't noticed, the Ohio State football program is passing the time during a slow summer by competing in some "June Olympics." It's a competition of different athletic competitions between the OSU staff and the players, and so far it's been a hoot to watch it all go down. The staff got out to an early lead, but the players won three events in a row to take a 3-1 lead before the older guys trimmed the lead to 3-2. And now, after the latest event, a three-point shooting contest between OSU staffer Matt Guerrieri and wide receiver Bryson Rodgers, things are all tied up. That's because Guerrieri battled through some suspect shots to bury the one that mattered, giving the staff the win and even the competition at 3-3. If you missed any of the action, get a look at the cliff notes version of what went down on the courts of the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. We're not sure when these June Olympics are over, or how many events there are, but it's fun to watch and keep up with, so we'll do our best to stay on top of it. We say, go old guys.
