Manchester United: Benjamin Sesko completes first training session as Ruben Amorim gets double selection boost
The Slovenia international has joined Man Utd from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig in a deal that, reportedly, could be worth up to £73.7million in total if all performance-related add-ons are met.
Interestingly, Sesko had been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer but was unveiled to the Old Trafford faithful prior to the pre-season friendly against Fiorentina on Saturday.
The 22-year-old will now turn his attentions to working his way into Ruben Amorim's starting line-up for Sunday's Premier League opener against the Gunners as it's been confirmed he should be available for selection.
There may be concerns over Sesko's fitness and ability to play 90 minutes at the weekend because he's not played a game since featuring as a second half substitute in Leipzig's pre-season friendly win over Toulouse at the end of July.
With that said, the striker did look sharp in his first training session at Carrington on Sunday as preparations for the visit of Arsenal began.
In a further double selection boost for Man United, Andre Onana and Joshua Zirkzee were back in training with the main group following their recent absence from action.
Although both players travelled to the United States, neither took part in any of the pre-season fixtures as they used the time to work on their rehabilitation in order to be fit as soon as possible.
Of the pair, Onana is perhaps more likely to earn an immediate recall to the starting line-up on Sunday.
However, Altay Bayindir - who has deputised in the Cameroon international's absence - did produce a fine goalkeeping display against Arsenal in last season's FA Cup third round penalty shootout win.

Ruben Amorim more confident in Man Utd ahead of new season
Ruben Amorim says he feels 'more confident' about Manchester United's qualities heading into Sunday's Premier League opener against Arsenal. A sense of optimism has returned to Old Trafford, just three months on from their worst top-flight campaign in 51 years being compounded by a damaging defeat in the Europa League final. Amorim has refreshed the squad, both in terms of personnel and mindset, since the end of a campaign in which the United head coach admitted he went into games knowing that they would struggle. But being backed in the transfer window over incomings and outgoings has helped changed that heading into Sunday's hotly-anticipated Old Trafford opener against Arsenal. 'It is hard to know (what we will deliver) because we cannot change everything in four weeks, but we are better,' Amorim said. 'I know that we are training harder, we are training better, so I know that we are more prepared to cope with the demands of the game. 'We have new players that we need to understand in the real game what they are capable to do in the moment. 'But I am really more confident. That is clear. I am more confident in this moment. 'But, again, we cannot change everything in four weeks but step by step we are going to be a better team, but of course I am more confident.' Benjamin Sesko is pushing to make his debut just a week on from joining the club from RB Leipzig, as are fellow summer acquisitions Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Diego Leon. But there remains work to be done, with a number of players to shift out and a decision to be made on midfield after Brighton made clear they do not want to sell Carlos Baleba this summer. United are a work in progress but Amorim believes they are far better heading into the new campaign than the side that stumbled home 15th last term. 'We want to return to Europe, but it is hard as a Manchester United coach to say one thing like that,' he said. 'But we need to be realistic with our fans. We are going to have to fight a lot because there's a lot of good teams with more time than us together, but we are going to fight for it. 'We are going to improve. We want to focus game by game. If we are thinking now about how we are going to finish the season it is a problem. 'Let's focus on game by game. We want to win against Arsenal, that is the main focus.' The match against Mikel Arteta's Gunners pits Amorim against a striker he helped take to new heights. Viktor Gyokeres joined Sporting Lisbon from Coventry in 2023 and became one of Europe's most talked about frontmen in Europe under the Portuguese. There had been talk of a reunion with Amorim at Old Trafford but the Sweden international instead joined Arsenal and could make his debut against his former boss on Sunday. 'It's a different league,' Amorim said of Gyokeres. 'The physicality is different. 'In Sporting they have a very good group of scouting because they live from that, from the players they can buy and then sell to survive. 'I think he is a very good player. He is going to give different characteristics. 'It is going be different if we face in the beginning of the game Viktor or (Kai) Havertz, for example, so we need to be prepared for that but it's not a surprise to watch Viktor in a big club in England.'

Premier League: Mohamed Salah sets a massive new record
The Egyptian forward has further cemented his legendary status in the Premier League. Mohamed Salah - Liverpool / Photo : Premier League Mohamed Salah continues to write his own story in the Premier League. On Friday, August 15, 2025, during the opening day of the 2025-2026 season, the Egyptian striker for Liverpool netted his 10th goal in an opening match. He has set a new record at the very top of English football. A truly unique achievement for the Reds' superstar. With this latest strike against Bournemouth (a 4-2 victory for the Reds), Mohamed Salah becomes the all-time top scorer in the history of the Premier League on opening days. He has now surpassed Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard, and Alan Shearer—icons of English football. A living legend at Anfield What is most impressive about the Egyptian star is his remarkable consistency. Mohamed Salah has scored in 8 out of 9 opening-day fixtures since joining Liverpool in 2017. Such consistency is rare and speaks to his meticulous preparation for every new campaign, as well as his incredible ability to hit the ground running from the very first whistle. Since his transfer from AS Roma, Mohamed Salah has been nothing short of sensational in a red shirt. In eight full seasons at Liverpool, he has stacked up trophies (Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup…) while maintaining astonishing numbers: over 200 goals in all competitions, and now 10 goals on opening days alone. At 33, he continues to prove he's still one of the most lethal strikers in Europe. Despite recurring transfer rumors, especially those linking him to Saudi Arabia, Mohamed Salah appears more committed than ever to Liverpool's project under Arne Slot, Jürgen Klopp's successor.

Brighton £30m signing Charalampos Kostoulas not yet ready for Premier League
Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Fabian Hurzeler says he can tell from speaking to Charalampos Kostoulas that the £30million summer signing is not yet ready to be thrown into action in the Premier League. But there are no plans to loan out the 18-year-old Greek forward signed from Olympiacos or Tommy Watson, who joined from Sunderland for £10m. The 19-year-old also had no minutes during pre-season after picking up an injury during the training camp in Spain in July. Advertisement Asked by The Athletic about the state of play with the teenage newcomers, Hurzeler said: 'Tommy had a small issue during the training camp. Nothing big, so he will be fine. 'Both are in training. Both are training quite well. Regarding 'Babis' (Kostoulas), of course, there's a big spotlight on him because we spent £30million. That's a huge amount of money, but I think it's very important to understand where he comes from. 'He's coming from a different culture, a different league with different demands. And if you have talks with him, you can feel it, that he needs time to adapt to the intensity here. It's not only a different culture, it's also just a different adaptation for his body. So, how much sprint distance he has to do here during training, how much high-speed distance he has to do during training. It's something completely different. And the body just needs time, especially when you are that young.' Hurzeler, who was speaking to reporters on the eve of Brighton's first game of the 2025-26 season at home to Fulham on Saturday, added: 'You need time to adapt, not only physically, but also in some ways mentally. Therefore, we need to give him the time and we need to be very patient with him, because I can say that he won't be immediately in the starting XI. He also might not be playing (against Fulham). 'That's something everyone has to understand. Just because you pay that amount of money doesn't mean he immediately comes and plays from the beginning. The Premier League has different demands. We have a big squad, we have a very strong squad, so there's also a lot of competition in this position. So we all have to be patient. 'That's our responsibility, to give him the environment where he can improve, where he can adapt, where he can be himself, but where he also gets challenged. Then he will adapt quite quickly and he will be an important player for us.' Brighton intend to keep Kostoulas and Watson in house, rather than loaning them out. Hurzeler said: 'At the moment, we don't think about that. The plan is that they try to adapt here as quickly as possible and be a help for us in the season.' Brighton were among the worst-hit clubs by injuries during the 2024-25 campaign, as they finished eighth in their first year under Hurzeler. Advertisement The 32-year-old German has a full squad to choose from with the exceptions of long-term absentees Adam Webster, who has undergone surgery on a anterior cruciate knee ligament rupture sustained during the training camp in Marbella, and Solly March. The long-serving winger had another operation towards the end of last season on the ruptured ACL which kept him out for 14 months from October 2023 to December 2024.
