Teen, woman die in Ulu Tiram crash after motorcycle runs red light
KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 — A teenage boy who ran a red light while riding a motorcycle was killed along with his passenger in a crash at Ulu Tiram, Johor, last night.
The 15-year-old and a 20-year-old woman were riding a Honda motorcycle from Jalan Ledang when the incident took place at around 9.50pm yesterday.
'Upon reaching the scene, the motorcycle rider is believed to have turned right while ignoring the red traffic light,' Seri Alam District Police Chief ACP Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said in a statement.
'At the same time, a Toyota Estima driven by a 40-year-old local man, who was proceeding straight on a green light, was unable to avoid the collision and struck the right side of the Honda motorcycle, causing both rider and pillion rider to be thrown into the opposite lane.'
Both riders suffered fatal head injuries, with their deaths confirmed at the scene.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which relates to causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
The officer then urged witnesses to assist by contacting the Seri Alam police.

Union County reports two separate one-vehicle fatalities on Highway 34 last week
Jun. 9—A Clarinda man and an Osceola woman were killed in separate Union County one-vehicle accidents five days apart. According to a Union County Sheriff's report, in the early hours of Tuesday, June 3, a 1983 Honda motorcycle, driven by John Pace, 54, of Clarinda, was traveling eastbound on Highway 34 when it didn't navigate the turn properly. The motorcycle traveled into the north ditch of the highway where it came to a rest on its side and Pace was located on the ground south of the motorcycle. The accident was found around 4 a.m. by a driver of a semi who had seen the lights and turned around to check. Pace was deceased at the scene and has been taken for autopsy. The investigation is ongoing. On June 8, the Union County Sheriff's Office received numerous 911 calls at approximately 11:50 a.m. regarding a reckless driver who was all over the roadway eastbound on Highway 34 past Highway 169. As the vehicle was close to the Clarke County line and without a Union County deputy in the area, a call was transferred to Clarke County. Union County was then advised that the vehicle, a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by San Vega, 43, of Osceola, was involved in an accident at mile marker 102 in Union County where it went off the roadway, down an embankment and came to rest in the Grand River. The caller told Clarke County they were able to get the Traverse stopped on the side of the road. When they went to put the vehicle in park, it was instead put into reverse. Vega lost consciousness and lifted her foot off the brake, causing the vehicle to reverse down the hill. Witnesses were unable to stop the vehicle. A Clarke County deputy and first responders arrived on scene after the car went down the hill. They were able to get Vega out of the vehicle before it became fully submerged in the water. Vega was transported by an ATV from the water to the Clarke County ambulance to be transferred to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines where she was declared deceased. Medics reported to deputies they smelled alcohol on or around her person. The investigation is ongoing. This is the third vehicle fatality reported in Union County this year.

Man pleads no contest to manslaughter, DUI in Pioneer Dr fatal crash
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man accused of driving drunk when his SUV collided with a car in east Bakersfield has pleaded no contest to a charge of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, according to court records. Gabriel Coronel, 33, also pleaded no contest to DUI causing injury in connection with the fatal crash that occurred last year on Pioneer Drive east of Denison Lane, records show. He faces seven years and eight months in prison, prosecutors said. A sentencing hearing is scheduled next month. Early on Feb. 17, 2024, Coronel's Chevy Traverse collided with a Honda Accord. The Honda had four occupants. Three were found unconscious by California Highway Patrol officers, according to court documents, including a woman in the front passenger seat who was later pronounced dead. Coronel told investigators the Honda veered into his lane, but physical evidence revealed the westbound Chevy crossed the yellow line and collided with the eastbound Honda, according to the documents. Breath tests revealed Coronel's blood-alcohol content at 0.12 and 0.13%, above the 0.08% legal limit, documents said. Arrests made after 2024 fatal shooting in Fort Pierce
FORT PIERCE – Police on June 5 announced two arrests in a 2024 shooting case that left an 18-year-old man dead, records state. Slain in the March 16, 2024, incident just east of North 23rd Street and Avenue C was Jackson Romanello, Fort Pierce Police stated. Over the past year, investigators determined David Harris III, 19, of Fort Pierce, shot Romanello during a drug transaction initiated by Romanello and Jerimah Nelson, 21, who was arrested June 3 in Flagler County on a variety of mainly drug charges. Police found Romanello in the driver's seat of a Honda Pilot with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. The Honda was just south of an apartment building where investigators said Harris lives. Police Maj. Eric Chan on June 5 said two individuals contacted police shortly after the shooting and said they were in the vehicle with Romanello at the time. 'Detectives interviewed them and from them they developed leads which they had to follow through on, which led to the identification of these two individuals (Nelson and Harris).' According to records, investigators determined Romanello and Nelson exchanged text messages for several weeks before the shooting regarding Nelson buying marijuana and Adderall pills from Romanello, who was living in Fort Myers. Chan said the two people in the Honda with Romanello didn't know Harris and Nelson. 'They painted a picture of what was going on so that we could follow up,' he said. Chan said the investigation took more than a year. 'We wanted to make sure that we corroborated any statements and/or other leads that we got,' Chan said. 'We did search warrants and subpoenas to gather information that required analyzing.' He said Nelson moved to Palm Coast. Chan said it was 'a robbery gone bad by David Harris.' According to statements in records, Harris put a gun to the left side of Romanello's head and told him not to move or he would be shot. Romanello put the Honda in gear and Harris fired a single shot. Police found a 9mm cartridge casing at the scene.
