Leicester strike late after resistance of beleaguered Sheff Wed players and fans
Wednesday fans made their feelings known to Chansiri by delaying their entry to their seats and the away end was visibly empty as the players came onto the pitch at the King Power Stadium, with a banner that read 'SWFC for sale – enough is enough'.
The Owls had just 15 senior players on the books ahead of their season-opener but produced a determined display against the Foxes.
After five minutes, the fans made their way into the ground and were greeted with applause from the Leicester fans.
For Wednesday, it was an achievement of its own to be on the pitch for the first game but they stunned the King Power into silence when Nathaniel Chalobah gave the visitors a shock lead midway through the first half, and it was thoroughly deserved.
Wednesday's resilience was broken when Jannik Vestergaard equalised early in the second period and, if Wednesday already did not have a mountain to climb, captain Barry Bannan was sent off with 14 minutes to play.
Leicester, who started a new era after relegation from the Premier League under new boss Marti Cifuentes, left it late to grab the winner through Faes and were reminded that life back in the Championship may not be as plain sailing as the last time they were in the second tier.
A spirited Wednesday side almost grabbed an early opener, Chalobah driving forward with the ball an unleashing an effort which needed to be tipped onto the post by Jakub Stolarczyk.
Pierce Charles was brought into action with three routine saves in first 15 minutes but the hosts came closest when Bilal El Khannouss' effort from distance was marginally dragged wide.
Against the script, an already emotional away end erupted in the 26th minute.
Yan Valery cut the ball back to Chalobah on the edge of the box and he sent a strike towards goal which deflected off Oliver Skipp and into the net.
Leicester should have been on level terms three minutes before the break – a corner whipped towards the back post was headed back across goal by Caleb Okoli but Vestergaaard headed wide.
Leicester wanted a penalty at end of the half when El Khannous' strike seemingly hit the arm of Bannan as boos rang around the stadium at the break.

The Foxes put Wednesday under the pump at the beginning of the second period as the visitors could not get out of their own half and the pressure paid.
El Khannouss' low delivery from a free-kick evaded everyone inside the box and Vestergaard pounced to finish high into the net.
Valery and Chalobah both went off injured and Wednesday's task was made harder when Bannan was given his marching orders for a second booking for a late challenge on Harry Winks.
Leicester finally found the winner three minutes from time.
Charles was in inspired form and he denied a Patson Daka header from point blank range but there was nothing he could do from the resulting corner when El Khannouss whipped a corner onto the head of Faes, who guided home.

Valakari impressed by 'well-coached' Motherwell
St Johnstone manager Simo Valakari says he has been "very impressed" by Motherwell under new boss Jens Berthel Askou before the sides meet in the last 16 of the League Cup on team went unbeaten as they topped their Premier Sports Cup group before opening their Premiership campaign with two draws – at home to Rangers then away at St said: "I saw them last weekend playing St Mirren away. There are not many more difficult places to play than St Mirren and Motherwell controlled 60 minutes, passing, playing around the opponent and creating chances. I was very impressed."It tells me Motherwell are a very well-coached team."They had over 600 passes against one of the hardest teams in the Premiership and people say we pass a lot - we had about 400 passes against Ross County or Partick Thistle."Following their relegation to the Championship, St Johnstone have been in impressive form with six wins from six games."I don't know if Motherwell will rotate but for us, as always, it is a test to see where we are and then I know what we are now and how we will improve in the future," Valakari said.

Celtic vs Falkirk LIVE score and goal updates from Premier Sports Cup clash
The Premier Sports knockout rounds are here and holders Celtic get their defence of the trophy up and running. The Hoops avoided the summer group stages due to their Champions League involvement and they welcome Premiership new boys Falkirk to Glasgow's east end tonight for a Friday night clash. Brendan Rodgers will be desperate to get his hands back on the League Cup but knows John McGlynn's side will be no pushovers. They gave the holders a scare last season in the same competition and at the same venue by taking the lead twice before the Hoops ran out 5-2 winners over the then Championship side. A place in the quarter-final draw is up for grabs and the chance to take another step closer to a day out at Hampden. 15:47Alan Galindo 'We'll be ready from the first whistle' - Brendan Rodgers Brendan Rodgers insists Celtic won't underestimate the challenge of Falkirk. He has told the Hoops faithful his side will be ready from the first while and be 'really aggressive' in the game as they kick off their defence of the trophy. We've had players who've come back a little bit later so they need to get up to speed. There are others that won't play and I also have to think about Livingston, rather than throw players on for their first game, so the team will be strong and I'll have a good bench. I'm so happy for John, and I think what he's demonstrated in his time since he's come back into management, is that talent and technique will always override power, unless you have the resources to get power as well as technique and talent. I look at his teams at Raith and what he's doing now at Falkirk in bringing them up, and you see how they play, and you see the attitude and energy they have in the game, the technical qualities they have. He and Paul Smith, his assistant, have done a brilliant job, and I'm just so pleased for him because there was a wee bit of nervousness at the end of last year but they got the job done. He deserves all the accolades he gets, he's been absolutely fantastic and, like I've said, they've demonstrated their game idea and how they want to play, and they've demonstrated a belief in that, and that football philosophy has allowed Falkirk to get promoted for the first time in years. So well done to him, his staff and his players and, for us, we don't underestimate them tomorrow night. We'll be ready from the first whistle to be really aggressive in the game.

Man Utd make final decision on Carlos Baleba transfer pursuit after talks
Manchester United are unlikely to further pursue a deal for Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba before the end of the transfer window, according to reports. United are keen to strengthen their options in central midfield and identified Baleba as their top target this summer. The Cameroon international made 40 appearances in all competitions for Brighton last season and emerged as one of the league's most promising all-action midfielders. However, widespread reports now indicate that United are set to park their interest in Baleba after holding direct talks with Brighton. The Red Devils are still keen on the midfielder, but it was made clear to them that Brighton would not entertain any sale this summer for Baleba, who still has three years left on his current deal. Metro's new weekly football newsletter: In The Mixer. Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every Friday – sign up, it's an open goal. The Seagulls are intent on keeping the 21-year-old at the club for at least another season, and believe they can generate a fee similar to the £115million they received for Moises Caicedo if they do eventually decide to sell. Speaking earlier in the day, Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler insisted he was 'very, very confident' that Baleba would still be at the club come the end of the summer window. 'I didn't see any change, he's only changed his hair. I think that's the only change he's made in the last two weeks,' Hurzeler added when asked how Baleba had dealt with the reported transfer interest. 'But overall he seems to be in a really good place, he's enjoying it with his team-mates, he's enjoying being a Brighton player.' United may now consider other options this window as they look to bolster their midfield ranks, with reports crediting them with an interest in Sporting Lisbon captain Morten Hjulmand. The Danish international was brought to Sporting by Amorim from Lecce and helped drive the Portuguese side to back-to-back titles. It is believed that a £50m could be enough to tempt Sporting to cash in on the 26-year-old. In the meantime, United will have to consider other options in midfield, with Ruben Amorim indicating that both Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount could be deployed in deeper roles to aid his side. More Trending 'I want Bruno near the ball, so that is really important for our team, but last year, sometimes I felt like I need Bruno near the goal,' Amorim said ahead of United's opening league clash with Arsenal. 'We have now players with different characteristics that can cope with that so we will try to arrange game-by-game the players in the best position.' On Mount he added: 'Maybe Mason Mount is a player that can play in that position if we want something different. 'But then we are going to find out during the season. But we have players to cope and win games in the Premier League.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
