Shalarth ID scam key accused Narad, 4 others granted bail
Nagpur: The Nagpur sessions court on Wednesday granted
conditional bail
to
Shalarth ID scam
main accused education deputy director
Ulhas Narad
, Nilesh Meshram, Suraj Naik, Raju Meshram, and Sanjay Bodadkar.
Dubbed as one of the largest scams that rocked Maharashtra's education sector, the case exposed 580
fake Shalarth IDs
, which were allegedly used to disburse salaries to bogus teachers and non-teaching staff, causing a massive financial loss to the state exchequer.
The scam, uncovered in April 2025, revealed a systematic fraud operating since 2019 across schools in Nagpur division.
Investigations found that fake Shalarth IDs were generated to appoint unqualified individuals, some without teaching experience, as teachers and headmasters.
Forged documents facilitated these appointments without verification, enabling illicit salary payments. The scale of the scam prompted the education department to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising police and education officials to probe fraudulent appointments and potential involvement of senior officials.
CM Devendra Fadnavis had approved SIT probe into the scam.
Narad faces the gravest charges for approving headmaster appointments based on fake documents. Arrested in Gadchiroli on April 12, 2025, Narad along with salary squad superintendent Nilesh Waghmare, Nilesh Meshram, Naik, Raju Meshram, and Bodadkar, colluded to allegedly orchestrate the scam. The scam has exposed deep-rooted corruption in the education sector, leading to the suspension of several officials, including Narad, Waghmare, Meshram, and Bodadkar.

During Wednesday's hearing, advocates Anmol Goswami, Kamal Satuja, and Kailash Dodani, representing Bodadkar, argued that the evidence against the accused was insufficient and, with the investigation complete, their detention was unnecessary. The court granted bail, though the terms and conditions remain undisclosed.
The scam, estimated to be running into crores, has sparked public outrage, with social organisations and political leaders, including BJP MLC Sandeep Joshi, demanding a thorough investigation.
Opposition parties have criticised the govt for failing to curb corruption.
It is alleged that one accused, Parag Pudke, based on forged documents secured the post of headmaster despite not being eligible for even a teacher's post. Even after being brought to his notice, Narad did not take any action and rather supported Pudke to continue in the job by allegedly pocketing a huge amount from him.
It is further alleged that the other co-accused Nilesh Meshram accepted Rs10,50,000 from Pudke and gave Rs20,000 to one accused Suraj Naik and Rs30,000 to Sanjay Bodadkar, and the remaining amount was distributed between Narad and Nilesh Meshram.

Youth arrested in Panchkula kabaddi player's murder case
Police have arrested a 21-year-old youth in connection with the June 5 murder national kabaddi player and transporter Sonu Nolta, 32, outside a mall in Amravati Enclave, Panchkula. According to police, the youth, Sameer Khan, was accompanying the prime accused, Piyush Piplani and Ankush, during the murderous attack. Police claimed that Sameer, who was living on rent at Saini Mohalla, Pinjore, and hailed from Uttar Pradesh, was arrested from Maddawala village, near Pinjore, on June 11 and has been taken on five-day police remand. During the court hearing on Thursday, Nitin, alias Prince, 20, Sonu Nolta's cousin, who sustained a bullet injury in his leg in the attack, confirmed Sameer's presence in Piyush's car. Pinjore police had registered a case under various sections of BNS and under the Arms Act, and now Sameer has been nominated in this case. Initial investigation has revealed that Sameer became friends with Piyush and later Ankush Solanki, both residents of Pinjore. Driven by the desire to establish dominance in the area, they conspired to murder Sonu. Police sources said around half a dozen criminal cases, including attempt to murder, robbery, and Arms Act violations, had been registered against him in local police stations and in Parwanoo, Himachal Pradesh. After committing Sonu Nolta's murder, the prime accused dropped Sameer at PGIMER after parking their car in the parking lot. He then went to UP to escape from the police. According to police, Sameer was deeply involved in the murder, participating in the planning and a reconnaissance in a Nexon car before the attack. After Sonu's immediate death, they uploaded a video to social media, which police traced. An eight-member special investigation team (SIT), led by ACP (Crime) Arvind Kamboj, was formed on June 10 to probe the case. Eight additional special teams were also constituted. Police interrogating co-accused in old cases DCP (Crime) Amit Dahiya stated that police teams were conducting extensive raids across Himachal Pradesh (Baddi, Parwanoo), Chandigarh, and Mohali. They are interrogating suspects, relatives and friends, and scrutinising financial records, call details and digital activity to gather critical information and interrogate co-accused from Ankush and Piyush's old cases.

Nolta's murder: One arrested, mastermind still at large
1 2 Panchkula: In a chilling twist to a crime that has shaken the quiet town of Pinjore, police have arrested one of the key suspects in the brutal murder of national kabaddi player Sonu Nolta, even as the alleged mastermind, Piyush Piplani, remains on the run. The arrest came a week after Nolta was gunned down outside Amravati Mall on June 5, a night that turned deadly when four men allegedly ambushed him in a calculated act of violence. The motive? A sinister bid to assert dominance in the area, police claimed. The breakthrough came Wednesday evening when police nabbed Sameer Khan, a resident of Saini Mohalla, who had been living under the radar. His arrest followed the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on June 10, led by ACP (crime) Arvind Kamboj. Investigators believe Sameer was drawn into a deadly alliance with Piplani and another local, Ankush Solanki. Together, they allegedly plotted Nolta's murder, conducting a recce in a car before executing their plan. On the fateful night, as Nolta arrived at the mall to watch a movie, the assailants struck. Gunfire erupted, leaving Nolta fatally wounded and his cousin, Nitin alias Prince Rana, injured. In a brazen move, the suspects uploaded a video of the attack on social media — an act that would become their undoing. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Indian Stewardess Makes Headlines Worldwide medalmerit Learn More Undo Police traced the video's IP address within hours. Ironically, during their escape, Piplani reportedly shot himself in the hand by accident. The group abandoned their vehicle at PGI Chandigarh the next day, where police later recovered a spent cartridge — vital forensic evidence. With Piplani still at large, police have launched an aggressive manhunt. Eight special teams are scouring hideouts across Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, and Mohali. Investigators are leaving no stone unturned — tracking digital footprints, analyzing call records, and interrogating friends and family. DCP (crime) Amit Dahiya confirmed that past criminal records of the suspects are under scrutiny, and forensic experts are working to build an airtight case. On Thursday, Sameer was remanded to five days in police custody. During the court hearing, Nitin Rana, still recovering from his injuries, identified Sameer as one of the shooters.
