Crew member on £9.5million superyacht brutally killed days before 21st birthday

Paige Bell was described as "a golden girl" by her devastated friends in the days after her death, which police in the Bahamas are now treating as murder
An engineer from the Far From It superyacht appeared in court today accused of murdering a young crew member.
The 39-year-old engineer is alleged to have slashed Paige Bell's throat during a Bahamas trip days before the stewardess' 21st birthday, a party for which had been planned for Friday. The young woman was found, partialy undressed, in the engine room when the yacht was moored, and declared dead at the scene.
A court in Nassau, the Bahamian capital, heard the defendant had slashed Miss Bell's neck, and she had defensive injuries to her arms, suggesting she tried to fend off her alleged attacker on the £9.5million superyacht called Far From It.
The engineer, who is a Mexican national, was not required to enter a plea. The engineer was denied bail and remanded into custody ahead of a hearing on November 20.
Miss Bell, from Johannesburg, South Africa, was described as "a golden girl" by her devastated friends after her death. Her grieving family said they are "facing an unimaginable journey".
The relatives, from Durban, South Africa, previously said: "Our family is facing an unimaginable journey. This evening mom and dad are flying to the Bahamas to begin the painful process of not only bringing their baby girl home but also seeking justice for the monster that took her life.
"We are devastated beyond words and now we must also navigate complex and costly legal proceedings in a foreign country – something far beyond our financial means.
"This heartbreaking loss has been deeply felt by everyone who knew and loved 'Paigey' – her former captain, the boat owner, all the crew on board and our entire community.
"We are humbly asking for your support whether by sharing this message or contributing financially, every bit helps. Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers. We are grateful for your love, support, and solidarity during this incredibly difficult time."
Mail Online says the engineer, a fellow crew member, had severe injuries to his arm when police apprehended him last week. After he received treatment in hospital, he was charged with murder.
The alleged offence shocked the exclusive resort of Harbour Island which is a 3-mile by 1.5-mile playground for the rich and famous and a mecca for superyachts. Known as the "Billionaires' Backyard" as more than 20 billionaires live on the paradise island, it is 60 miles to the east of the capital Nassau just off the larger island of Eleuthera.
Miss Bell had previously worked on board the Motor Yacht Sweet Emocean as a crew member until December 2024. Her former colleagues paid tribute in a post shared with a GoFundMe page set up to help "ease the financial burden" faced by the family.

EXCLUSIVE 'I looked at the camera and my blood ran cold': Mother describes her horror at seeing CCTV of a pervert burglar who broke into her Marbella home in the dead of night - and leered her naked body as she slept

A woman has told how she felt violated after a burglar broke into her home in the dead of the night and leered at her naked body as she slept. Angie Castillo was in a deep sleep laying next to her boyfriend Alex Varona, 34, when the intruder hold a torch gained entry to their Costa Del Sol property and and 'inspect' her close up. Angie, a mother-of-one, was unaware of what had happened to her until the following day when she noticed her purse was missing and the couple checked the CCTV footage in their home. To their horror, the 32-minute clip showed the masked raider silently creeping around their bedroom looking at Angie on the bed. He appeared to be fixated with her as he repeatedly shone his torch over her body. Speaking exclusively to MailOnline Angie said she could have been raped if she'd been sleeping alone. 'I looked at the camera and my blood ran cold', she said. 'The guy came into the room eight times. He was looking in between my legs, at my intimate parts, looking at my face. He forgot all about the burglary. He was more interested in looking at me.' 'I was very scared, I was shaking. I was in shock. The day before my boyfriend Alex had been in Germany. If I had been alone this man might have raped me. 'Half an hour after he left the house, I went to the toilet. Perhaps if I had seen him I would have screamed. Alex would have done something. But the intruder might have been carrying a knife or a pistol.' 'I am still traumatised by this,' she said. 'Before I go to the toilet at night, I look at the cameras. If Alex leaves the bed at night, I jump. I am now seeing a psychologist.' Instead of stealing her gold ring, €400 Philipp Plein watch or other jewellery, he only took €300 in cash from her purse and dumped it. Spanish police are analysing the security footage to identify the suspect, but no arrests have been yet made. Angie's teenage son was also sleeping in the room next door at the time. 'Marbella is a bit dangerous now with people coming into people's houses. I would advise people to put alarms in their homes,' she said. Mr Varona, a Brazilian black belt jiu-jitsu champion, said if he had woken up when the intruder was there, the outcome would have been different. 'I can detain nearly anyone. Someone came into our house and with the knowledge that I have, you can imagine how angry I felt. If I had woken up then the video that everyone has seen on social media would have been very different, I would have detained him until the authorities would have arrived, without doing him any harm.' He had returned from a jiu-jitsu tournament in Germany the day before. The couple went to the cinema and finally went to bed late deeply. 'The intruder did not steal anything from me, but perhaps he stole my pride. For me being a jiu-jitsu black belt and doing what I do, I should not have any excuse. I train about three times a day, six days a week, sometimes seven and I could not do anything with this intruder in our house,' he said. The couple did not report the burglary immediately partly out of embarrassment and because they felt that as the intruder wore a mask, gloves and socks, they doubted if he could be caught by police. Later, they found the courage to report it after being encouraged to by friends. Disturbed by the intruder's behaviour and desperate to catch him, police published the footage. The incident comes as residents in Spain have been warned to beef up their security systems after more burglaries. In more footage, a man is seen wearing a mask and a grey hoodie and breaking into a series of villas between San Pedro de Alcantara in Marbella and Benahavis. Dubbed the San Pedro Prowler, he is seen picking locks with a sharp tool. He then walked off carrying luxury items including handbags and jewellery. Among the recent stolen items include €10,000 in cash and a €30,000 watch. The robber appeared to be wearing no shoes, just in socks apparently to avoid alerting anyone inside the house. Neighbourhoods he has targeted include Guadalmina, and La Quinta, in upmarket Benahavis.

'Disgusting' hobby of mum on death row after slitting husband's throat

Ramandeep Kaur Mann, 38, is facing the death penalty after being found guilty of murdering her husband Sukhjit Singh, 34, after lacing his biryani with sedatives A mum is facing execution by hanging on death row, accused of murdering her husband after drugging his biryani and slitting his throat in front of their nine year old son. ‌ Derby-based Ramandeep Kaur Mann was convicted of conspiring with her lover to kill her 34 year old husband Sukhjit Singh while they were holidaying in 2016 with their two children, as reported by the Daily Mail. ‌ The judge at Shahjahanpur District Court found that Mann had slit Sukhjit's throat after he fell into a deep sleep, aided by her lover Gurpeet Singh. ‌ It's believed the gruesome crime was driven by financial motives. Prior to his death, Mann had taken out a £2million life insurance policy for her husband and stood to inherit his property. Mann was found guilty in October 2023, with her son's testimony proving pivotal. Her legal team are now arguing that her son was 'coached' to give false evidence that he witnessed the murder, reports the Mirror. An appeal has been launched by Mann's lawyers, with a document alleging that Arjun - now 18 - was instructed on what to say by his grandmother Bans Kaur - Sukhjit's mother and Mann's mother-in-law. The document also accuses police and relatives of colluding to fabricate the case against her, according to the Daily Mail. ‌ Mann has consistently denied committing the murder. She alleges she was set up by her husband's family who, she claims, were the actual murderers of Sukhjit as they wanted to stop him from selling land he owned in India. Currently detained at Shahjahanpur District Jail in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, Mann is sharing dormitory-style accommodation with 55 other female inmates. ‌ Since her imprisonment, Mann has embraced painting, and her appeal emerges as fresh images surfaced showing her displaying her creations whilst meeting local dignitaries as her standing as an artist gains recognition. She met local officials who toured the facility earlier this year to commemorate India's Republic Day, just weeks following Mann's participation in a Christmas showcase of her prison artwork. Charity representatives have also called on Mann to examine her creations, which feature a vibrant array of sketches and paintings, though not everyone welcomes the development of Mann's newfound artistic abilities. ‌ Bans Kaur, Sukhjit's mother, told MailOnline: "She does not deserve any applause and has no right to celebrate Christmas or any other occasion while I continue to suffer. I will be speaking to the jail officials about this. For the sins that she has committed, she should be suffering in a cell not being given a chance to paint and have a comfortable life. "She is a cunning and evil woman, and I don't believe for one minute she has changed. This [her art] is all being done for her appeal against the death sentence and is an attempt to win favour with the jail authorities. It's absolutely disgusting. "It's ridiculous to suggest that I 'tutored' Arjun and got him to lie. He gave a very long statement which had a lot of detail in it. How could we have got him to make all this up? How can you tell any teenager what to say? We will be challenging this appeal because there is no doubt that this woman murdered my son. "I will fight to the end to get justice for my son because what this woman did is unforgiveable. I don't care how good she is at art or what a model prisoner she has become because it means nothing." Following his mother's conviction, Arjun told MailOnline he did not regret giving evidence against Mann and that he wanted to watch her hang. He said he saw his mother smother his father with a pillow before her lover Gurpreet struck Sukhjit in the head with a hammer and Mann then slit her husband's throat.
