Fake news alert: No blackout planned for Pretoria today
A viral message claiming that a citywide blackout would hit on June 13 has been slammed as fake news, with authorities warning the public not to be misled by the fear-mongering hoax that has caused widespread panic online.
The City of Tshwane stated in a press release that it had noted with concern a misleading message circulating on social media and online platforms, falsely warning customers about a blackout in Pretoria scheduled for June 13 2025.
According to the message, a transformer will be shut down, which will impact residents, businesses and the environment, necessitating urgent preparations by residents and businesses to minimise disruption.
The fake message is circulated with the caption 'DARKNESS DESCENDS ON PRETORIA JUNE 13 POWER CRISIS TRIGGERS PANIC'.
It warned the public that this communiqué is false and did not originate from the City of Tshwane. The city communicates planned and unplanned service interruptions through official channels.'
'We urge residents to remain vigilant of such fake news. Anyone who encounters suspicious communiqué or persons impersonating city officials is encouraged to report them immediately to the Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department at 012 358 7095/6 for verification and investigation.'

DA demands tabling of forensic report into corruption at Endumeni Municipality
The resignation of Endumeni Municipal Manager Sithembiso Ntombela has intensified calls for transparency following a CoGTA report that revealed security tender corruption dating back to 2023. Ntombela stepped down amid a Section 106 forensic investigation. The probe reportedly found that FBL Security was appointed without following supply chain protocols; however, its findings have yet to be presented to the council. The report was finalised last year, but only presented to the Endumeni council in March of this year. The Courier has a copy of the report, and its findings were published last month. In it, the investigators recommend that two senior officials be charged, including Ntombela. DA caucus leader, Cllr Saleem Abdool, urged Speaker Andile Nsibande to present the report immediately and for councillors to act on its recommendations. 'Accountability must not be sacrificed for political expediency,' said a DA spokesperson. The party insists that due process be followed and that anyone implicated be held responsible. 'Throughout this term, the DA has pushed for clean governance and financial accountability. 'With public scrutiny at its peak, the party vows to continue advocating for a municipality that serves residents, not hidden agendas.' [Breaking] Retail store targeted by armed men in Galleria
A BUSINESS robbery occurred in Galleria Mall this evening (June 12), where a retail store on the lower floor was stormed by a group of armed men. Also read: Galleria Mall robbery suspect in hospital after shooting Preliminary information from a security company indicated that a group of about 16 men in two bakkies robbed the shop of jewellery, expensive perfumes, and cellphones among other items. The men are said to have also hijacked a Mercedes Benz from the vicinity of the mall as they made their getaway. The police and security companies responded and secured the scene soon after. There have been reports of shots fired, but there is no confirmation of any injuries. It is unknown at this stage whether any arrests were made.
