Real Madrid forward leaning towards Liverpool, but move unlikely

Yahoo2 days ago
Real Madrid are not planning any more groundbreaking arrivals this summer for they have already signed enough stars to elevate the squad from last season. A big sale, however, has not been ruled out.
While Los Blancos are under no compulsion to sell, moving away players who are not in the manager's plans would help the books and Rodrygo Goes is seen as one who can make a move in that sense.
The Brazilian youngster, while im[important for the club in recent years, saw his prominence fall last season. Now, his future is being called into question after it has become clear that the new manager prefers a system with only two forwards.
England is calling
Rodrygo has always been one to prioritise the Real Madrid crest over anything else but his forced position leaves him open to considering external offers. The Premier League, in that sense, is one that tempts him and he may well move to England.
As relayed by Rodra in a recent report, the club that Rodrygo is most attracted to right now is Liverpool. However, a move right now looks unlikely.

The player sees the project at the Merseyside club to be one where he can shine and continue to compete at the highest level on all fronts, for the club have done well not only domestically but also in Europe in recent seasons.
The hurdle, however, is Arne Slot's team's sudden interest in splashing the cash on Alexander Isak this summer which will be very fund-intensive.
Liverpool have already signed a striker this summer and could well drop the interest in Isak soon, something that will reopen the door to Rodrygo's arrival. At this point, however, the move looks unlikely.
The Brazilian phenom has also received interest from Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and other top Premier League clubs. While the former refuse to meet his wage demands, the player does not fancy the latter option from a competitive standpoint.
Given the situation, it is not entirely ruled out that Rodrygo ends up staying put at Real Madrid this summer despite all the speculations.

Man United draws Everton, West Ham blanks Bournemouth in US tour finales

Bruno Fernandes scored one goal and set up another as Manchester United drew Everton 2-2 on Sunday to capture the Premier League Summer Series title. The Red Devils earned a final point in Atlanta to top the table with seven in the pre-season friendly tournament, having previously beaten West Ham 2-1 and Bournemouth 4-1 in the round-robin US tour. "It's improving," Fernandes told Sky Sports after the match. "I think the club is doing the best that they can. "We needed more competition for the players that were here. We needed more quality to get everyone to step up a little bit more, to have more to do to get into the first 11. I think that's what the club is trying to do, the manager, and hopefully we can get one or two players more to help with that." Manchester United finished last season 15th in the Premier League, their worst showing since relegation in 1973-74, managing only 11 wins and nine drawn from 38 matches. "I think a lot of people have suffered from this," Fernandes said. "The fans pay more for the tickets and we really appreciate all the efforts they do for us. "So it's up to us now players to repay it on the pitch." Fernandes said the club is working to improve from team and staff to facilities. "It's every detail. Every small thing matters," Fernandes said. "At this football club, you can't do anything wrong on the pitch and off the pitch because it's too big worldwide. "The culture of this club was winning. It was there. And we need to bring back that." Everton's James Tarkowski brought down Amad Diallo in the penalty area and Fernandes blasted in the shot from the spot to lift Man United ahead 1-0 in the 19th minute. French-born Senegalese international Iliman Ndiaye equalized for the Toffees in the 40th minute, tapping in off a pass from Senegal's Idrissa Gana Gueye. Mason Mount, who entered the field barely 10 minutes earlier, took a pass from Fernandes and curled in a shot past Jordan Pickford in the 69th minute to put Manchester United back in front. But Everton pulled level in the 75h minute when a ball directed back by Diallo deflected off Manchester United Ayden Heaven and into the back of the Man United net for an own goal. Manager Ruben Amorim inserted newcomer Bryan Mbeumo into his starting lineup, the arrival from Brentford missing earlier matches to finish pre-season training. - Diouf sparks West Ham - Niclas Fullkrug and Jarrod Bowen scored to lift West Ham United over Bournemouth 2-0 earlier, giving the London side two wins from three matches in the Premier League Summer Series. Spot-on set up passes by Senegalese left back El Hadji Malick Diouf, signed only on July 15, led to both West Ham goals. "Both goals are down to him, the quality that he's got, you can see that," Bowen said of Diouf. "He has only been here a few weeks but you would think he has been here years. "He's humble. He's a brilliant guy for the group and he's obviously a brilliant footballer as well. We're very excited to see what he can continue to do here." Diouf's centering ball found England's Bowen in the box, but he was forced to slide a pass left to German teammate Fullkrug, who fired in a shot from point-blank range in the 24th minute. Bowen found the net in the 67th minute off a Diouf pass. Bournemouth had plenty of chances in the first 15 minutes but the Cherries found the woodwork to squander early opportunities. "What I liked was the character about the group. We didn't have the best start we wanted but we stuck in there," Bowen said. js/bb

Son Heung-Min reportedly leaving Tottenham Hotspur, heading to LAFC after emotional goodbye

Son Heung-min is heading stateside. After a decade playing for Tottenham Hotspur, the 33-year-old forward is joining LAFC with a transfer fee reportedly worth between $20 to $26 million, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano and CBS Sports' Tom Bogert. The fee will likely set a new record for an MLS league transfer, usurping the reported $22 million Atlanta United spent on Emmanuel Latte Lath in February. Son, who joined Tottenham in 2015 after spending some time in Germany, announced that he was leaving the club in an emotional press conference on Saturday. In the conference, Son called it "the most difficult' decision of his career. "I came to north London as a kid, 23 years old, very young age, a young boy came to London who even didn't speak English and leaving this club as a grown man is a very, very proud moment," Son said, via The Associated Press. Son officially said goodbye to the Spurs on Sunday, during a preseason friendly against Newcastle in the forward's native Korea. He was subbed out in the 64th minute of the game, and spent several emotional minutes receiving hugs from his teammates and coaches, as well as from members of Newcastle. With 173 goals across competitions, Son is fifth on the club's all-time goalscoring list. He is seventh in terms of all-time appearances, with 454 across competitions. He has been the Spurs' captain since 2023. Additionally, Son helped lead Tottenham Hotspur to the UEFA Europa League title in May, earning the club its first major trophy in nearly 20 years. "Winning the Europa League made me feel I had achieved everything I could here," Son said in Saturday's press conference. "I need a new environment for a fresh challenge." And a challenge it will be: LAFC currently sits in the middle of a busy, competitive Western Conference table with a 10-6-6 record. They currently lag 10 points behind the division leader, San Diego FC. Being in the United States ahead of the 2026 World Cup is another consideration for Son, who has been a staple of the South Korean national team for 15 years. "My most important priority right now is the World Cup. It's likely to be my last World Cup and I want to give everything I have in that environment," Son said in the press conference." Son has been Korea's captain since 2019, and is the most capped with the most goals among current players; Son also holds the third highest caps and second highest goals overall in the team's history. The move also reunites Son with his former Spurs teammate, goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who signed with LAFC last year.
