Heavy rain batters Delhi on Raksha Bandhan, waterlogging in many parts of city
Early on Saturday morning, the India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for heavy rain with lightning and thunderstorms for parts of north, west, south, southeast, and Central Delhi, but later downgraded to a yellow alert, advising people to be aware.
In the 24 hours till 8.30 am on Saturday, Delhi's primary weather station at Safdarjung recorded 78.7 mm of rainfall, Pragati Maidan 100 mm, Lodhi Road 80 mm, Pusa 69 mm, and Palam 31.8 mm, according to data shared by the weather department.
The temperature was recorded at 23.8 degrees Celsius on Saturday morning, 3.2 notches below the average, while the maximum temperature is expected to settle around 32 degrees Celsius. PTI NSM NSD NSD

Rainfall activity dips, deficit rises over 8%
Panaji: In a lean spell that had moderate rainfall only once in Aug, hardly 73mm of rainfall has been added to the seasonal total, as India Meteorological Department (IMD) has recorded a deficit of 8.3%. Though it hasn't been totally dry, 46.8mm of the rain out of 72.7mm during nine days of Aug has been recorded in 24-hour phases on two occasions. On the morning of Aug 6, IMD recorded a moderate daily average of 33.5mm, the highest during this month this year and 13.3mm on Saturday morning. On seven other days of weak monsoon activity, only 25.9mm were added to the seasonal total. The deficit, however, is within normal range, as the surplus or shortfall below 20% is considered normal. On Saturday, the Sanguem centre recorded the highest rainfall of 23.2mm, Pernem 20.8mm, Dabolim 18mm, Dharbandora 16.6mm, Mormugao 13.6mm, Ponda 13mm, Panaji 12.2mm, Old Goa 11.5mm and other centres on a lesser scale. The figures of Quepem, Margao, Valpoi and Mapusa were not available. IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall till Aug 12 and heavy rainfall in isolated places on Aug 13 and 14. In Vidarbha, Gondia recorded the highest rainfall at 37.2mm, following isolated heavy spells in the region. Other areas saw varied rainfall patterns, ranging from light to moderate intensity. With the monsoon maintaining its normal pattern, residents can expect intermittent showers and comfortable weather conditions in the coming days. The IMD's short-term outlook suggests that while intense rainfall will likely be limited to isolated areas, light rain will continue to keep temperatures moderate across the region. Another power outage hits parts of Dadar, Mahim
Mumbai: There was power outage in the morning on Saturday, affecting parts of Dadar and Mahim. The power outage was due to the tripping of the 33kV Sitladevi-2 feeder which is operated by BEST, sources said. Tata Power, which supplies power to BEST, issued a statement saying "there was no fault at Tata end." This is the second time in five days that the areas have witnessed a power cut.
